  1. The car was a 1999 S reg up for £17,995. They said it had had an RAC inspection, although I wasn't shown it when I bought the car. the salesperson just said it had sailed through., all approved Lexi are supposed to have been examined by the RAC, but I have also heard from friends who alledge these are not very good?
  2. Please see dealer reviews Bolton Lexus or go to www.jmgoodman.freeserve.co.uk I've just had the' Lexus experience' and I don't want it again.
  3. A small caravan - mass in running order=790kgs max permitted laden = 1000kgs. This can be towed by a VW Golf etc.
  4. Help - I am about to fit a towbar to my LS400 Mk4. Lexus say I must fit a transmission oil cooler, well they would have to say that. But, the parts are about £700. and 5 hours to fit. The car officially will tow 2000kg I will not exceed 1000kg ( and remove the bar when I sell). Will I get away without a cooler? Has anyone tried this? Has anyone fitted a cooler? Are there any alternative coolers? Anyone fitted a transmission oil temperature guage? Does the LS400 Mk4 have an oil cooler as srandard? help on any of the above please.
  5. Hi -have a look right up the rear springs with a torch, they are prone to breaking at the top coil. Sometimes missed at service 'cause hard to see.
  6. Does anyone have info. on the newer motorway speed cameras? I have heard that they digitally photograph your number plate then do this again some miles down the motorway, if you got there too fast you get a ticket. ie. no point slowing down for each camera, and no marking on road?
  7. The cameras on the blue poles are not speed cameras. They are part of the commercial system that checks on traffic jams - such as Traffic Master etc - they are usually on motoeway bridges one over each lane but where there are no bridges they put them on poles.
  8. Hi - i'm after a more recent CD (UK) for my '97 satnav - if anyone out there will sell me a copy i'd be grateful. I'm told by my local Lexus dealer that they only usually update every 2 years and they brought one out last year Oct '02 so maybe no new one this year?
  9. I have just bought a Ls400 mk4. I want to install a mobile car kit. I have found the socket/aerial plug in the RH of boot and a spare plug inbetween front seats. Does anyone have data for these? Where does the aerial lead in the boot go to? Is there a built in aerial or does the lead terminate somewhere like the rear headlining? Any help appreciated.
  10. Thanks Jason - I have just bought a mark 4 - from a Lexus Dealer ( and at Lexus prices - ouch) ! so my Mk3 has to go - I have been offered £5k from a dealer ( and even he had to admit it was worth about £6k ) but I would like £5250 as its so good, and I'd rather sell it to a none dealer if poss. Still it might be going for £5k in a few days. It is in Autotrader at £5595 'cause everyone wants to pay less than the asking price.
  11. Now down to £5250 firm. That is £600 below Glasses auction price. See:http://www.lovekyn.co.uk/gl-mileage-values?gl_vehicle_id_F=8256&registration_year_F=1995&registration_letter_F=M&ID=M2KPB4HZL1C00J1
  12. The LS400s do have a weakness with their spark plug leads. They are the thin type and seem prone to shorting through the insulation. Make sure that they are in their clips, look for 'burning' ( usually white ) marks where the leads touch each other. try putting some insulation tape at these points to keep them apart. Clean them up. Also carefull pull back each lead off its plug and check for signs of sparking to the plug, they can burn completely away here. The offside ones are much harder to get at, you need to remove the inlet trunking. Lexus wanted £252 +vat for a set. Cars like the Nissan mirca have the same thin leads and can be made to fit with some care/adaption. The only good news is that you can usually persuade your local Lexus Service dept to plug in their 'computer' which will show up any failing lead and tell them which one.
  13. Jason - may try that as a last resort. This is my 4th LS400, the other 3 all had over 120k and they sold ok. The last being a P reg with 139k that sold for £7800. Sold it to try a Merc. what a mistake! What is flustrating is that this is a suberb car, its even got all its displays working! I just need one person to come and see it. Manchester Lexus service dept were running one with 285k and it was sweet. Its all down to having a complete Lexus service history and a fault free car. I don't think its the price - its just a limited market for what is an largely undiscovered car. The man who bought my last car rang be up in the evening - guess what I was expecting -but no he just went on and on saying how fantastic the car was. I have now tried all alternative makes - Audi, Merc, Jag, BMW - but keep coming back to the LS. I tried an early GS300 a few years ago but was very disappointed, just felt like a very good Toyota, and seemed to have worse fuel consumption, you can see where the extra £20k original price goes. Thanks for the advice.
  14. By the way - if you go to www.carpricer.co.uk - click on glasses guide - and enter this cars details you will get an aution price ( trade buying in ) for excellect condition of £5808. Don't be put off by the low price I need to sell quickly, summer is going fast and I have a new caravan to try out. I am based in Manchester.
  15. Although I've never had a problem with my 3 1993 models if you check out the handbook to find out how to turn off the ultasonic ( movement) sensors you can illiminate such things as air movement due to heat ( quite common in hot weather, ) or airvents left open. Incidently if you can not find this info. try putting tape over the 2 utrasonic sensors. Failing this check for any bonnet switches and adjust then up a bit. Try leaning on the bonnet with the alarn set. You can not adjust the sensitivity but many LS400s have a volume control for the alarm set bleep ( knob under the edge of the dash.) Sorry this is not more helpful.
  16. If you are an AA member have a look at their used car parts & labour warranties. ( www.theAA.co.uk) Your car has to be under 100k miles. I paid £24 when I bought a GS300 in a Friday. On Sunday the radiator burst. The AA came out. A lexus garage fitted a new rad. about £450 all for free. When you consider that when my LS400 started misfiring and my Lexus garage wanted £252 for a set of 8 plug leads it makes sense. I have no connections with the AA. and there are exceptions, of course - wear and tear etc. I reckon Lexus owners might benifit more than most with this warranty not because the cars brake down, they don't, but because the repairs are costly.
  17. Try giving Safety Devices a call - they do roll cages. Go to: www.safetydevices.co.uk
  18. Hi - go to: http://www.lexus.co.uk/approved.php?area=ls_archive -all the spec. of LS400s is there.
  19. The early LS400s did have a switch on the dash to turn the remote locking on/off. To the left of the streering wheel.
  20. Try putting a message on the Audi owners club site guestbook at:www.audioc.force9.co.uk?
  21. 2 of the 4 LS400s I have owned have had no front anti-squeal shims fitted. They have 4 pieces to each caliper, 2 black 2 silver, if you take them out without studying them it is not clear how they go back. Hence the 'brake part fitters' of this world just throw them out. Without them the pads usually clatter but can squeal. Its always worth checking these if you have a front end rattle that goes when you apply the brakes.
  22. LS400 photos I am selling my 1995 mk4 LS400 the best I have ever had because I have just bought a new touring caravan and have decided to buy a post '98 model to fit a towbar and keep a few years. Check out my website for photos and details.
  23. Hi - you might find the website - www.carpricer.co.uk useful, click on the Glasses guide icon and input your car. This will give you auction and retail price. The auction price is what the dealer will hope to get back on your car as a part ex.
