  1. Yes i would call them and get your money back. what colour was your smoke? It's hard to say because it's difficult to drive and look in the mirror for any length of time at the same time. At it's worse I would say it's dark grey changing to white. It's worse when moving off after I've been slow-moving traffic then it clears up once I get up to speed.
  2. Mine was also smoking. Lexus said petrol had been put into the engine and I didn't believe them as I had definitely NOT done that but I gave them the benefit of the doubt as they're the experts (apparently!). It set me back £300 (plus the cost of the fuel that was in there already) to drain the tank and change the filter. They also said it was still smoking a little but it should clear up after 150 miles or so. I think I've done around 250 since then (approximately 10 days ago) and guess what? Today, the smoke was back!! I was fuming (pardon the pun!). Should I call them and demand my money back??
  3. That's what mine was like. Maybe not quite as bad and more noticable when moving off and for a 30 seconds or so afterwards. I think (but obviously can't say for sure based on the video) the smoke occurred more noticably on the gear change. It's very hard to determine how bad the smoke is when you have to keep an eye on the road in front.
  4. Temperatures had dropped over the last few weeks but I noticed the problem for the first time in mid to late November when it was not as cold as it is has been over the last 3 weeks (sub zero). I'm not sure that service stations are allowed to mix diesel with petrol (although I can't say that with any authority).
  5. My car is currently at Lexus with EXACTLY the same problem and exactly the same symptoms. I spoke to them today and they reckon that some petrol was in the tank. Now I know for a fact that it was not me and no-one else drives the car. I've had it for 2 months and they think it's possible that there may have been some petrol in the tank previously which is now manifesting itself with the smoke due to the fact that I let the fuel run low. I'd read on here previously that this problem was likely because of the EGR valves and expected them to tell me that. Now I'm not so sure that Lexus aren't just spinning me a line to get me to part with £300 of my hard earned cash for doing a job that doesn't need doing! :(
  6. Like the LED taillights. Where did you get them? And how much were they? (Not keen on the alloys though - sorry!)
  7. I was surprised this feature wasn't available when I asked about it since my 2001 Clio could do it. Disappointing!
  8. Welcome to the club. I've had mine for a week and, if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy it more every day.
  9. Small world indeed. Don't see you on there any more. Did you get p!$$ed off with the huge numbers of whoppers on there? If you think it was bad then you should see it now! If your warranty from the dealer was for 2 years then you should be alright.
  10. I turn 40 in a few weeks. Got my IS a week ago and my mate said it was an old man's car. I agreed but not so sure now judging by the number of under 30s in this poll.
  11. I've found that I can put it into 6th at 70mph. Is the Sport different?
  12. Welcome Stew. Looks fantastic. Those alloys are stunning!
  13. Welcome Marc. I picked my car up on Sunday (same spec and colour as yours) and I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing about the clock on my drive home from work yesterday. Worse bit of a brilliant car.
  14. You're right I should've (and would've) done but living in London and having to drive 150-odd miles back with nothing to show for it after waiting 2 weeks to pick it up didn't really appeal to me.
  15. I thought the button only locked the doors. Grabbing the handle unlocks only doesn't it? But there's a setting which controls which doors are unlocked by grabbing the handle. Or maybe I'm completely wrong because I've only had mine for 24 hours!! :D
  16. Thank you kind sir! :)
  17. Well, I've been a member for a couple of weeks - to ask advice on which IS I should go for - and I'm happy to say that I've picked up my 2006 IS220D Sport (MM) today. Absolutely chuffed to bits. Slightly disappointed with the preparation of the car by Lexus Sheffield and the fact that after voicing my concerns they did nothing to help rectify the problem. And they didn't even leave me with a full tank of petrol!! Still, looking forward to many years of happy and trouble-free (touch wood!) motoring.
  18. Nice! I would've been really pleased to have a car like that as a student. Bet you're well chuffed.
  19. The original warranty for a new car is three years, but I have purchased the Lexus extended warranty so expect my rims to be covered. If you have new rims fitted under warranty I would expect Lexus to guarantee the new or refurbished wheels. My understanding was that this was for three years, which in practise is bodering on the time when they'd need changing again. Several people on this forum have had two sets of replacements on their first genearation IS's. So you're saying that you would EXPECT it to be covered under the extended warranty but you don't know for sure? Well I am now. According to the extended warranty it doesn't cover paintwork and bodywork, Interior trim, and road wheels (as well as the more obvious ones like servicable items, glass replacement etc.). So if you haven't had the road wheels changed under the original new car 3 year warranty like me (because I changed the wheels for non OEM within the original warranty period) then you're out of luck. However, if you have had them changed I really would expect Lexus to guarantee them for another 3 years. OK, that makes sense. Since the car is 4 years old and I don't know whether the wheels were changed within the 1st 3 years or not it might be difficult for me to argue for a new set. I'll see how the refurbs hold up.

  21. I recently bought a 4 year old IS220 Sport from a Lexus dealer (haven't picked it up yet though) and when I was examining the car I noticed that the alloys were bubbling and corroding quite badly. I probably wouldn't have mentioned it to them except that I'd also seen a newer Sport the same morning and the dealer (independent non-Lexus) had mentioned that new alloys were fitted because the old ones had corroded and were replaced under warranty. So I asked the Lexus dealer about this and was told that, even though this car would have an extended warranty, the warranty for alloys was only for the 1st 3 years. Is this not true then? Should Lexus replace them even under an extended warranty? I didn't question it at the time as they told me that they would refurbish them before I picked it up. But if I'm entitled to new ones I'd rather have them than a set of refurbs.
  22. Well I took the plunge and went for a (used) 220D Sport. Obviously not as fast as my Clio but I was pleasantly surprised by the reponse and I have a mate that does chips so I might ask him about putting one on for me just to get a bit more out of it.
