  1. Right, so when you stomp the accelerator, the car lurches forward after a slight (<1 sec) delay. Is this not comparable to the delay you get from kick-down in an auto transmission?

Also, is this only noticeable when the car goes from electric-only to electric + engine? If the engine was already running and you floor it, is there the same delay?

Only asking because of genuine curiosity 🙂

My GS, which I'm guessing has an older-style eCVT (2nd gen?), exhibits this delay but only if it was first running in EV mode. At higher speeds, or with "Sport" mode switched on, the engine normally runs anyway and the car takes off as soon as you floor it.

Also, at the moment, I'm driving a CT200h courtesy car and I've certainly not noticed any delay in response to the accelerator pedal. And that car seems ever so eager to revert to "EV" mode.

I read, somewhere, where a motoring journalist bought the demonstration Leaf when they very first came out. ( 2011?). The battery, over the years, had lost quite a bit of capacity. He sourced a new one in Holland that was much cheaper than buying here. It was also the higher amp hour version. Sorry can't find the post.

That would be Robert Llewellyn I believe. During the Leaf launch event, he reviewed a blue press car and liked it so much that he bought it off Nissan.

  3. Cheers John, credits to Mrs Gan though for convincing us to go electric  😄

We bought it when it was two years old, and it came with a 1-year extended warranty. Back when we got it in 2017, home charge points + installation were practically free, thanks to the OLEV grant. It would have cost us £500 otherwise. If you were to buy an EV today though, I think you are entitled to claim up to £300 off the cost of the charger and installation.

  4. 7-mile daily commute, charging availability at work, 8000 miles per annum? You are a prime candidate for EV ownership.

My circumstance is similar to yours. Since I love my GS, what we did was buy a used Nissan Leaf as a daily driver. Compared to the GS, the running cost of the Leaf is laughable and it is just as reliable if not more so.

The result? My cherished GS stays warm and dry, while the Leaf and I have fun whizzing through town and winning traffic light grand prix :driving:

I didn't realise that Teslas had no coast mode - can you adjust the level of automatic regenerative braking in case you want to coast etc.?

You can adjust it - there is the option of "normal" off-throttle deceleration to mimic regular automatic cars or enhanced regen that gives you more off-throttle decel.

These were the two options in the Model S that I drove a while back, although it could have changed since with subsequent OTA updates. Either way, there is no blending of regen braking with friction braking on the brake pedal.

Do most of you get your GS serviced by Lexus? Do you get them to fix any issues or take the car away, make your own decisions and diy or go to a specialist instead?

Generally... yes. Pretty much drop it off at Lexus, tell the service advisor to do everything that needs doing, and drive off with the courtesy car. Rinse, repeat every 10k miles. Been doing this since 2011 (formerly with my IS200). Fortunately, the service advisor is a good friend of mine and fellow petrol head  🙂

Few exceptions of course - like the aftermarket exhaust and wheel alignment from an independent garage. Any spare time that I have for car DIY is either spent on cleaning and "detailing" or tinkering with my Datsuns.

Bought it at 50k, now at 182k, used for everyday business, engine appears to be absolutely bomb proof, still as smooth and fast as day l bought it.

That's impressive. Really miss the quality and refinement of the first-gen IS.

Back when perfection really was pursued relentlessly  😉:whistling1:
