  1. Well I had it connected for 2 hrs!! no luck what so ever! I put in WD40 and loads of patience the lock. After I have given it about 3-4 fists lol almost bruised my hand... and a few more attempts! THE KEY WORKED!!! hurray! I opened the bonnet and connected the jump start pack (although it is meant to be for a 2lt engine, it managed to turn it around no problem and started the car :) so pleased. :) After I started the car I checked the boot lights and both work with no problems therefore (my assumption) of a broken connection was not valid. For some reason my car did not like that unlocking technique :(
  2. Well I tried a battery jump start booster to start with ... and this didn't do anything. I then plugged in the GS300 battery and connected to the cables of the light .... still nothing no life what so ever :( I even connected it to the boot latch anywhere I could think of. And there is no life what so ever :( :( any ideas guys?
  3. unfortunatelly... the spare battery is a no go :( it proved to be faulty. So I will remove the battery from the GS300 to try and use it to unlock the LS430 :)
  4. I am charging a spare old car battery I have to give me enough juice to do this. So basically I will look for the red cable on the boot light to connect the red jump lead And black jump lead on the chassis and pray! lol :)
  5. Ok sorry to be daft... so I put the positive of the spare battery on the boot light? (do I worry where it goes?) And then I put the negative of the spate battery somewhere on the metal of the boot area.
  6. Hello guys, I have a problem. Our 2001 LS430 Premium has been off the road for 1 month, so I decided to go and start it up today. However the battery is flat. I just discovered that the drivers lock will not unlock, just turns around doing a click and nothing more. On the passenger door there is no key hole... So what do I do now??? :( I can open the boot as the lock is working there. But the battery is placed in the engine bay :( Any help would be appreciated Cheers.
  7. I have replaced the OCV valve on the driver side and has fixed all the misfiring. Now I have only the VSV code and the O2 codes :) P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) /21 P0155 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) or Oxygen Sensor Heater Current is Less than 0.25 amp, or Exceeds 2 amps or Voltage Drop for the Heater Exceeds 5 Volts (Cam.) P1651 -- VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction At least the good news are that the car has passed it's MOT today. The only advisory being the EML light. Really pleased

  9. Reviving old thread. But I need to clarify one thing for new people who come accross this thread. The EML is not an MOT failure. It was a misconception back in 2012 when the new rules were implemented. As long as the car passes the emission tests it will be fine, and an advisory will be issued for the EML, not a fail.
  10. For your info I got the TomTom Go 400 purely because it is 4.3" screen and not huge like they tend to come nowdays. And mine had free lifetime maps and free lifetime traffic if used with phone's bluetooth. Cameras only free for 3 months and then I have to pay
  11. It all depends on your budget I guess. I like the challenge to buy a cheap car ... and find the solution to its niggles and problems. Whichever car you buy LS400 or LS430 .... it will be a used car and it will have it's challenges. When I had the Mercedes CL500 ... the suspension on these tend to go... had to repair the pump twice while I owned the car. The first time I took it to a specialist and changed the hydralic pump for £1000 parts and labour ... When this new pump went wrong 30.000 miles later :( .... I decided I am not spending a lot of money ,... and I got a used good one from ebay for £180! then went to allparts and got the 3rd party compatible oil and went ahead to replace it with a friend of mine (I was the assistant) replaced it in 3 hours a nice straight forward job. I even booked a £50 diagnostic with a Star machine at a specialist near by to confirm that everything was as it shoud be, While we were replacing the pump we took off the rear valve block and cleared this as well as replacing some o-rings. Had to be done as one corner was dropping slowly over prolonged parked time. All this if I went to a specialist would have cost me parts and labour over £2500.... at Mercedes Benz don't even ask! With some elbow grease and good friends cost me £300 maximum. Just get the car that you like the most. We had a 1997 LS400 for a short time and now the 2001 LS430, I would choose the LS430 purely because the interior looks a bit more modern and feels different on the road, the air suspension is a winner to me in ride terms. Saying that I always liked cars with funky suspension setup lol.
  12. Now a strange thing just got back with the car, I was out driving in traffic. Before I set off, I cleared the codes. Half way at my journey I looked at the codes and it was P1354 -- VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) P1651 -- VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction Then once I finished my journey before I switch off the car I thought I would do one more scan and I had the following codes P0135 -- O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) /21 P0155 -- O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) or Oxygen Sensor Heater Current is Less than 0.25 amp, or Exceeds 2 amps or Voltage Drop for the Heater Exceeds 5 Volts (Cam.) P1354 -- VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) With outstanding code P1351 -- VVT (Variable Valve Timing) Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem (Bank 2) I swear the car is haunted! lol Where shall I start looking tomorrow? :(
  13. The 100k service was done by a BMW specialist... ? But with Lexus it is not the case apparently, the RX400h we had shortly ... had it serviced to Lexus Canterbury prior to giving it to the friend who bought it. I called Lexus Twickenham earlier in the week to book her in for the annual service as this is closest to her, and Lexus Twickenham said they are not able to see the services that happened on other dealers and best to bring the service book and invoices with her. I remember when I was in Lexus Canterbury it was a similar situation. However I think Toyota is linked... strange lol.
  14. Being a more relevant topic in the engine section I started a fresh thread on here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/95157-ls430-with-many-codes-p1354-and-so-on/
  15. Hello guys, I thought it would be best to start a thread on here instead of in the generic section. Here are the codes the car had when I bought it P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) /21 P0155 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) or Oxygen Sensor Heater Current is Less than 0.25 amp, or Exceeds 2 amps or Voltage Drop for the Heater Exceeds 5 Volts (Cam.) P1351 - VVT (Variable Valve Timing) Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem (Bank 2) P1354 - VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) P1651 - VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction P1663 - OCV (Oil Control Valve) Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2) I cleaned the MAF sensor and then I took the car out for a run, then I got new codes P0300 -- Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected or Misfiring Of Multiple Cylinders During Same 200-1000 Engine Revolutions P0302 -- Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0304 -- Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected P0306 -- Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected P0308 -- Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected P1354 -- VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) P1651 -- VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction I understand the P1651 is not relevant to misfires and check VSC warnings I am getting. Do you suggest if I clean and if no joy then replace the OCV on bank 2 (P1354) would solve my problems? I have no idea when the cambelt was changed I cannot find any receipts etc... or when I contacted the dealers in the service book did not have an idea. Problem is the 100k service was done in 2007 and that dealer does not have records older than 3yo.... so even if he done it, he would not have known. Cheers in advance guys.
  16. Having read a few things might be the OCV, but which one is the Bank 2 (driver side or passenger side?) I shall try to remove and clean... if no luck maybe change? I have read about some people having problems just after replacing a cambelt. It is just a shame I do not have any idea when and if the cambelt was replaced on this car. It would have made things easier :(
  17. I took the car out for a spin ... (wanted to check the tracking as I have some tramlining!, I suspect the problem will be some sort of worn bushes on the front for that.) I had the EML light coming on and flashing some times, and then after about 5 miles Check VSC came on, the idle became unsettled and the engine not running as smooth. So I came back home and plugged in the reader. New codes came up; P0300 -- Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected or Misfiring Of Multiple Cylinders During Same 200-1000 Engine Revolutions P0302 -- Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0304 -- Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected P0306 -- Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected P0308 -- Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected P1354 -- VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) P1651 -- VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction Shall I suspect that the P1354 can cause the misfiring and the array of P03** codes?
  18. I have thought the same Malc, if I take the car for the cambelt to be replaced I would like to replace more than less for the peace of mind. I did a bit online digging and found out the translation of the codes P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) /21 P0155 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) or Oxygen Sensor Heater Current is Less than 0.25 amp, or Exceeds 2 amps or Voltage Drop for the Heater Exceeds 5 Volts (Cam.) P1351 - VVT (Variable Valve Timing) Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem (Bank 2) P1354 - VVT (Variable Valve Timing) System Malfunction (Bank 2) P1651 - VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction P1663 - OCV (Oil Control Valve) Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2) None of them refer in an obvious way to the MAF sensor I cleaned. Since the cleaning of the MAF,I have idled the car several times and none of the codes returned (apart from P1651 - VSV For ACIS Circuit Malfunction), haven't had a chance to drive the car yet. Tomorrow I will do a long journey about 200miles return to a friend in order to have a more thorough mechanical check prior to MOT. So will see if any codes will come back.
  19. Blimey the price is dropped! lol When I was looking to buy a GS430 Sport (2nd Gen) a couple of years ago, I remember reading that the cambelt was about £1000 work. But ended up buying the GS300 ... and the cambelt had already been done to it by the previous owner.
  20. yeah it does that :) I called Lexus today ... but they do not have any record of a cambelt done to the car (I assume it is done being the car has 177000miles!) however they prompty said that they can book me in for next week and they could replace the cambelt for £520 (Lexus hatfield that is) It did sound cheap for a dealer lol I was wondering if I could huggle on the price and get a spare key for same or very similar price to £520! lol
  21. Chers Mark, £180 doesnt sound that bad :) I might try to get a used one if I can find one for pennies... and take it to them complaining it is not working anymore lol. I went out today and removed the MAF sensor , looked oily and quite dark. So a good old clean with IPA and solvent cleaner. Put it back in again and fixed it. The idle is smooth and the car runs perfect. Now I only have the EML light on, which relates to the code P1651 as you mentioned the VSV, so at least is nice to know I have only one thing to worry. This will not failt the MOT at least :) One more question, Is the airsuspension operated with an air pump on this car? or with a hydralic pump?
  22. lol mechanically it does look clean! But the interior!!! ouch! the owner did not know what cleaning meant :( ... it is full of sweets all over the place, an abundance of pens and pencils, and dirt lol Exterior will need touching up here and there and a very good detailing. I need to sort out the electic steering adjustment too, it goes in and out ... but not up and down. I will clean the MAF sensor with some IPA and then see how it goes with the codes. After I cleaned the codes, I had it idling and revved it a bit while stationary I did not move the car, I had the EML light flashing for a few seconds ,then it went away. But it did not store any codes.
  23. Have you seen these? http://www.reluctorrings.com/cars/lexus Thanks Steve unfortunatelly ... the 2nd gen GS apparently the rings cannot be detached from the driveshaft and it all comes as one piece :( ... 1st gen and 3rd gen they come as a seperate part.
  24. By the way ... the car came with two smart keys However the master key (it has 3 buttons on it) is complete and everything is working. The second key... it has the shell and the blade, but the inards are missing! ooppss what would be my best bet on approaching to a working second key.
