  1. ps if I do buy from USA will the part fit ? ( no LHD/RHD problems ? )
  2. Not the same as the other topic in Engine and Transmission, but my alternator stopped working on my '93 400. I've had it towed to the Lexus garage [ here in Dublin ] , and they and I think it's the old Power steer leak. While I do think the alternator replacement is probably going to be a nasty hit, they are saying they have to replace the whole PAS pump , costing about €1500 or so. I thought one only had to do the seals !! I said this to them and they said they don't bother doing that - it's not worth their while to get involved. I asked them if I got them the seals would they fit them they said no...I'd have to find someone who could do that ! this is a Lexus Garage not a cowboy ! what options do I have : help !
  3. In fact the guy who fixes them has a stall on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=7913617257
  4. sorry posted twice ... someone pls delete this second one I don't seem to be able to
  5. Since last week when I turn on the aircon/heating the fan sounds very noisy on high and medium (sort of like a vacuum cleaner when a piece of paper gets stuck to the end of the nozzle) Any ideas TIA
  6. Excellent choice; get it checked out beforehand professionally. Timing belt should have been done before now; there should be a sticker on it (the engine) showing its been done and at what mileage. I thought all LSs had the CD changer ? Oh and as for the 'oldie' thing don't worry it's a great car the women love it !
  7. ok... checked it ... it seems to be coming from more or less directly under the oil filler cap ... i.e. that side of the engine ... nothing to do with the brake shims ... it's been like that for a long time
  8. was sitting in a friend's 94 LS400 and noticed that his was much quieter than my 93 LS 400; specifically he didn' have my clicking noise which sounds like it's coming up front , quite a low noise, seems to be related to engine rev .. becomes drowned out when engine speeds up but when slowly gliding down an alley to the garage it's very audible with the windows open reflecting off the wall .. also noticeable when stopped so it's not driveshaft I reckon ... anyone any ideas ? 111,000 on the clock timing belt was done at 75 or so.
  9. One will say - me too on this ; switch won't work with engine on ... must be a safety interlock ... the doors locking on their own is dodgy... does it do that if you leave the key in [ I haven't tested it on mine yet ] (driving a 93 model here )
  10. I paid about £300 for an external (non-garage ) AA inspection that was very critical , included up on the lift and a road test and didn't pull any punches - when it came to negotiate it was like gold in the pocket. Caveat Emptor. Remember at the end of the day you are dealing with a 'used car salesman'. Since I'm in Ireland - was the price LexusLexus paid above or below the norm for the car ?
  11. Just trashed my own aerial while listening to radio in carwash (shut UP ! STOP LAUGHING !) I'm in Ireland ... anyone know where to get one without incurring main dealer wallet bleed ?
  12. Good stuff. IMHO you should have got an RAC or AA inspection. Pricey but worth it. What year was the LS400 ? Mine was a 93 bought with 105000 on the clock and it's more or less OK.
