  1. Hi I would agree with Durrantie, it sounds like a relay. Usually all the relays are kept together in a covered box. You should be able to swap the relay with another of the same rating and see does it fix the problem... if so off to the shop and but a new one for 50p! Glenn
  2. Have you watched the video clip... in it he states that "we've done some research and we suspect it to be a 98".... why would you need to research the age of the car? If you bought it legally you should have all the documents showing you the year of manufacture. I suspect this could be another one of those cars that gets pulled over by the police and has the chasis number checked only to discover its on an international list of nicked cars....
  3. Hi It would sound to me like your wheels need balanced or you have uneven tyre wear causing an unbalance in the wheels. If the vibrations are in the steering wheel it's probably the front tyres. Have a good look at the thread on all 4 to make sure there is no uneven wear, wearing on the inside of the front wheels is common, if this is the case then you might need to have the wheels aligned aswell. I'd be careful about switching off the engine at speed as you loose all hydraulic power, ie reduced braking, no power steering. Let us know what you find. Glenn
  4. Hi Matt I had a 96 LS400 and it rev'd at 1000 - 1200 cold and 650 when warm. Not sure if it's worth trying to use some injector cleaner, the type you put into your petrol tank! A cheap way to see if it helps, cant do any harm. How many miles are up on yours? 95,000 on mine with FSH.
  5. Hi all I posted on here before about a vibration in the brakes when applied on my 2005 LS430. I had it in with the Lexus garage today and they suspect a warped brake disc. THere's still 2 months remaining on the original warranty but Lexus mentioned that the brakes are considered maintenance items, therefore not covered! The question I have is does someone have an english warranty? I purchased my car 2nd hand in Germany and the warrany booklet is in German. I was wondering if someone could do me a favour and have a look through the items covered in relation to the brakes to see if it mentions anything about the discs. Lexus have to call me back on Friday when they have the parts. Cheers Glenn
  6. Hi Steve I had an LS400 1996 (Jap import), didnt have a trip computer on it but on a very similar drive I was getting around 25mpg so it sounds like yours is spot on. As for the seat, I'm surprised you cant get a decent driving position. I'm 6'2" and had loads of head room. You can lower the rear of the cushion aswell as the front using the control that adjusts the forward / back of the whole seat. Just push down on either end of that control for lowering front or rear, thats assuming yours is the same, which I imagine it is as I've now got a 2005 LS430 and it has the same adjustment. You probably already new this but just in case. Cheers Glenn
  7. I had an 96 LS400 and in order to change the blade on the drivers side you have to undo a screw on the link arm of the wiper. This allows you to change the angle of the blade in order to remove it. If this wasnt set up right the wiper might be physically hitting something and stopping it from going back to its home position. You can loosen this screw and adjust the blade, the best way I found to do this is to stop the wipers using the ignition key when they are at the vertical position. Loosen the screw and line the drivers wiper blade up so its parallel to the side of the windscreen. As for change the wipers as opposed to the blades, alot of people on here just change the blades as they are unaware of the screw on the link arm. Bosch wipers are just as good as any to put on. Hope this helps. Glenn
  8. Hi lads I have an LS430 aswell. Only have it 3 months so havent done an mpg check on a long drive. What is 500 miles out of a full tank working out in mpg terms? Cheers Glenn
  9. Hi ADC I did this a month ago. I cant remember exactly where it is but there is a button to open the flap on the dvd slit. I think it was a mechanical switch that you slide across and it was below the slit when you slide it across and then when you hit eject it should work. Glenn
  10. Hi I have recently bought a 2005 LS430 with 18k miles from Germany and noticed when I apply the brakes there is a slight vibrating sounds. This seems to dissappear if I apply more pressure to the pedal. Was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts / experience. Initially I am thinking of a sticking brake caliper. Also I read somewhere on here alot of discussion relating to tyres. I think the tyres on the car are still the originals as the spare is brand new and the same make. Any thoughts / ideas / suggestions are welcome. Glenn
  11. Hi I have recently bought a March 2005 LS430 President Line from Germany and was wondering if anyone has a copy of the European warranty in English. Obviously the copy I have is in German. If someone does have it in electronic format that would be even better. Cheers Glenn
  12. Hi Pete THanks for th reply. I think I will do the same as my car is black so the silver is quite noticable. It just seems a bit strange that lexus didnt think of putting a cover over this that matches the cars colour. Anyway, if that's all I have to complain about it aint all that bad! Glenn Glenn, If you carefully prise it out you will see the key hole for using a key if your battery goes flat and the smart key won't work, it has a prong of plastic on the back that grips into the key hole, be carefull with it as the plastic is quite soft, managed to get mine out with long fingernails.....mine was silver on my dark blue car so I took it off and painted it with a touch up to match the car.... looks much better now.... So yes I did manage to improve on perfection......... Enjoy the car Pete
  13. Good job.... do you mind if I ask how you determined the cap was leaking? Were you able to plug the pcb in while trouble shooting? Cheers Glenn
  14. Hi I have recently bought an LS430 2005 model and have a question relating to the coverings on the door handle. On my drivers door I have the button I use to lock it from the outside and also a silver circular item on the fixed part of the door handle. I am just wonering if there should be a black rubber cover for this also? Also what is it for? Regards Glenn
  15. Hi Steve THe air con helps demist the windscreen better in humid conditions. I live in Spain and it's very humid even when it's not particular warm and the a/c does a much better job on clearing the windscreen. As for the black knob, I think you are referring the the light sensor. This detects the drop in light outside and if you have the headlights selected to Auto they will automatically turn on. Try covering the knob with a sheet of paper to check. Glenn
  16. Hi Ian I have a 1996 Celsior and this bottle is a back up. In my car if you push the wiper stick forward (away from you) it sprays from this bottle. Dont ask me the reason for 2 bottles, I think it might be a winter and summer set up so you can put different mixtures into your water!
  17. Hi all, I have just bought an 2005 (Dec) LS430 in Germany and want to know if it is possible to change the Xenon headlamps from LHD to RHD without changing the entire headlamp assembly? If anyone has an ideas they'd be greatly appreciated and I need to get this sorted before getting the UK plates on it in case the DVLA decide they want to inspect the car. Cheers Glenn
  18. Hi The car is actually already converted to MPH but still limits at 115. Any ideas? I will get the coolant drained and flush the system... and refill with long life red and see how that makes a difference. Thanks again for your reply. Glenn
  19. Hi I have just joined this forum and have an LS400 '96 (Jap. import) It has a speed limiter fitted to it which kicks in at 115mph. Does anyone have any information about having this removed? Also I am currently working in Spain (40deg heat!) and the fan appears to be kicking all the time. It is one of the hydraulic fluid operated fans, does anyone have any suggestions... or recommendations on coolant which performs better in extreme heat? Regards Glenn
