  1. If it were lifters, injectors or any other moving engine part then the noise would change with engine speed. Could be the fuel regulator, maybe your getting fuel lock which can make it worse. Only option would be to change it I'm not aware of any DIY test. Any change it's when cold or warm, or when your moving or only stationary etc? You mention it's when in neutral, so if your in gear the noise goes?
  2. In fairness the 250's with the induction kits fitted sound great in videos! Must tell myself - leave the car alone lol...
  3. Just to give it a sportier sound. Seen lots of people on YouTube fit induction intakes for mainly a better engine roar then put the soundproofing back on. It's like buying a new hifi then sticking in earplugs lol.
  4. Fair enough. Would you then run the car without the engine bay soundproofing?
  5. I don't think the panel filter will do very much to the engine sounds.
  6. No point getting into a debate on the battery thing it's been done before, but it's odd to me why Lexus has a specific 8 year warranty on it, and dealer had a known cost for a replacement, if it's never required? I'm not saying the batteries will fail or leak etc, but they will lose their ability to hold charge for long periods. My iPhone used to last 2 days when new, not I'm lucky to get 6 hours. Silly example but that's the gist. Over time the barley will do less of the work and the engine will just be limping around more dead weight. If lexus had a battery which maintains efficiency forever they would be richest company on earth lol.
  7. If that includes all parts and labour I'd say it's pretty decent VFM for main dealer servicing. You could try ringing around for serving prices to get a better idea.
  8. True but the hybrid battery life costs would put me off for sure. Regard the boot, have a look at sugru. I put a small blob at each corner, closed the boot, then opened it slightly to let it dry. You end up with perfectly moulded bump stops! You can get it from halfords etc, it's also good for addressing any tiny squeaks and rattles in cars or holding your phone. www.sugru.com
  9. I know tit sounds old school but get a wrench and stick it to your ear and put it on various parts to see where the tick is coming from. I promise it works even if you look like an idiot while doing it lol. To get some things out of the way check if: It's the same in neutral and in gear. Does the tick change when you gently bring the revs up in neutral. Putting the clutch in affects it. Lots of cars tick at idle because I they use piezo injectors which almost starve the car of fuel at idle. Other option could be the valve lifters are getting starved with oil, especially if they are hydraulic. Wish I could help more but I'm not very familiar with these engines yet.
  10. Some really interesting comments here. I saw the new IS at Geneva last year and felt that it looked fabulous, but like the CT I feel that some of the plastics etc are a little low rent. My last car was a 135i and that had the same issue. Dashboard was nice and squidgy but the surrounding plastics felt hard and 80's moulded iykwim. I was chatting to a Lexus dealer before buying my current IS2 and he said (for him) there's a definite drop in qualify feel on the new car, but it's still outselling the old one on looks. I find the boot lid in mine light, and weirdly have saw several cars which had the paint rubbed off the boot and bumper because they got slammed too hard by people expecting more resistance. Personally I'm hoping the IS2 will be seen as a sweet spot like a 90's merc and hold it's value a little better. I still think the IS2 looks great until you see it parked next to a new one ;)
  11. I've heard some videos of K&N cars on YouTube and they sound great but it never says which they have. The price on the website for the induction kit is about £250 though, and for that much I'd rather fit a BMC CDA. I had one in my corrado vr6 and it was superb.
  12. I think the Deisel issue is a major factor, as is the reduction in choice of engines. If you take BMW for example, the lexus range matches the 1,3,5,7,X5 but you only have a choice of engines in the IS, GS and LS and even then there's only 2. Compare the CT200h to the 1 series, you have 116,118.120.125,130,135 etc and all the D's , all in coupe, hatch and cabrio etc. it's the same with the other series. The market share for Lexus is always a cul de sac, and with no performance brand as such away from the ISF the image is always of the cars being wafty. Personally having owned lots of cars from zee germanz, I like the more low volume nature of the lexus. I think it's more like Jaguar in that respect, the car park in work is literally littered with bmw, audi and Mercedes and maybe 5 lexus and 10 jags.
  13. What K&N do you use? Induction kit or panel filter? My boot light isn't on at the moment, will have to check the bulb.
  14. They are fab cars, and the ideal best of both worlds with the IS250.
  15. Not tried the car dip but I've used plastidip before and it's great, I did my VX220 fuel cap in it and the finish was awesome. Cardip is a heck of a lot cheaper though so I'd be eager to see how well it performs! I'm considering wrapping my IS in either matte black or electric blue with a gloss black roof - weighing up the decision at the moment...
  16. I struggle to see the point of a speed warning on any car, let alone one with cruise control.
  17. I would also say EGR. The same thing happened on my VX220, I ended up taking the unit off and wiring in a cheater to shut the ODB up.
  18. Hope it's of use guys. I am available on commission lol. Any Q's please feel free to shout.
  19. Here we go... http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr33/pete-r36/A5619A94-CF4F-44BF-A3A0-A4D475307059-61888-000024F05704EE67_zps17677fb7.mp4
  20. Done and back in car. I'm uploading a video and some pics but meanwhile I'm having some pizza!!!
  21. Tricky bit coming. You want the weave uniform, scut a small piece out of the main console wrap and put the ashtray back into its housing with the console. Now look for the weave when placing the wrap so it lines up perfectly.
