  1. Hmm seeing that the front pads from Lexus cost £408 (Sidcup Lexus) I want to make sure this is sorted! By the way I am not opening another brake pad debate, more of a way of identifying driving styles.
  2. Thanks again everybody, I shall see how things go. It maybe just me having to get use to high performance brakes at work!
  3. Just returned from a fast round trip A21,M25 and A2. Did some heavy braking. Do they feel different? A bit. The grinding is still there but not so much. I will have to see how it feels from now on. I could have easily lost my licence this evening, the car is deceptively fast. I know everyone is talking about the sound of these cars. I heard a M3 drive past in the opposite direction and that sounded good. I will have to get my bro to drive my car past me and let me hear the sound from the outside. Sad I know.
  4. The car is parked outside on my drive. I suppose the problem is that I do not drive it every day. However, I do recall a lot of brake dust came from Kimi R's when he was braking hard. I know there is no comparison, but I will try and find out later this evening. I doubt it is the pads, as this would have been picked up on the pre delivery. Maybe as stevet has said it could simply be the material in the pads.
  5. As some of you may know, I purchased my car about three weeks ago. One thing I noticed was that the front brakes seemed to be grinding when I applied the pedal. I am aware that when the car is parked for a day or so there may be a bit of build-up on the disks. However, the grinding feeling/noise is still around when applying the brakes after driving several miles. I reported this back to the dealer on Saturday. A technician phoned me today and said that the brake dust builds up and needs to be removed. The way to do this is to brake hard which releases the dust and therefore stops the grinding. It appears that my driving style is like ‘Driving Miss Daisy (my words not his). I thought that bombing around town and anchoring up at the light wastes fuel and also shorten the life of the pads. The tech said the car is not designed to be driven around feathering the throttle and brakes (he has a point). I will be out tonight to see if this solves the problem. It seems plausible to me, what do you guys think?
  6. I looked at one about three weeks ago at Lexus Twickenham, a Grey 11 plate for £35k. Not in my price range, but I wanted to refresh my memory of what one looked like before I headed up to Leicester for my test drive. The prices seem to vary quite a bit. My 59 plate with just under 30,000 miles was less than the 08 for £27k.
  7. Thanks. The Takeda intake seems pretty easy to install too. I will run the car for a little longer (not even two weeks yet) then will decide if I really want to turn heads.
  8. Thanks, I will give it some thought. You say there is no power gain, is there an increase in fuel consumption? Also do you know if the intake would invalidate the warranty? Cheers
  9. Thanks you guys. As I've said before it is still early days, but I have not yet managed to get that glorious NASCAR sound around town without travelling at breakneck speed. It is interesting how people go on about the exhaust pipes and the 8 speed box, but if they were to drive one they would think differently. I'm not going to go on and start comparing stats with other cars, but one I found interesting was the rpm at 60mph. I read that at 60 a M3 is doing 2,600, whilst a ISF is 1,550. To me the 8th gear comes into its own, much more relaxed on the motorway.
  10. No, I bought it from Lexus in Leicester. Did not get that much of deal, but very happy all the same. I said to myself that if the dealers hold firm on their prices, this can only help the residual values. Anyway, I'm still exploring mine!
  11. I had a discussion with the dealer about ISF prices when I bought mine. He said new ISF's sell for around £44k. As a result some have been pre registered to reduce the price. He said the residual values may take a hit for nearly ones, but older ones still hold their value, relatively speaking. Looking at the prices above they seem to be ok.
  12. Hmm, I bought my 59 plate (29,000 mls) from a Lexus dealer (last week) for a few grand more. Is that the going rate for a private sale?Unfortunately/fortunately there are not many to choose from.
  13. I just picked up my black 59 plate ISF. Drove down the M1 back to London. It was a toss up between a M135i and ISF. I drove both and was impressed. However, the BMW was a little too plain and then the options, auto dimming mirrors £275, keyless go I think another £250 and the list goes on. (the car can certainly shift though!) I chose the ISF in the end because: It's rare Has all the options The ride on the road is bearable The engine sound Reliability (I've had 2 LS400's no problems) It is fast Fuel, the eighth gear is really useful on the motorway Lexus customer service The German cars cost more (insurance, servicing and initial price) and they are not necessarily better (as a road car) As I have only owned it for 3 hrs, I will reserve further judgements for later. Terrible weather at the moment, but hope to open it up over the remaining weekend. Already got my brother waiting for a test drive. I will look out for an ISF in London now, I can't say I've notice any.
