  1. I use Halfords own branded fluid which I dilute about 50-50 with water for Winter.
  2. but can't find out how to get it to give the details of the quote like everyone's quotes seem to. just quote the post of the person you want to quote so......... basically click the quote button on my post and you will be quoting me... you can then at that point edit out anything in my post you dont want to quote Oh. I didn't see that button before. Thanks everyone who replied.
  3. Must be something wrong if it only lasted three days - you should get several months. How much fluid are you putting in? Are you sure it's really empty and not just that the fluid has frozen in the nozzels? Even with quite concentrated screen wash the chilling effect of the wind when travelling at speed can cause the water in the nozels to freeze up.
  4. How do you include the name and date/time of the person you are quoting when you put a quote into a reply to a post? I can do this: but can't find out how to get it to give the details of the quote like everyone's quotes seem to.
  5. My commute is 90% motorway / dual carriageway. If I take it easy (steady 60-70 mph) it's quite easy to get around 35 mpg. My best figure was done this summer when the weather was pretty hot which seems to make quite a difference. When I was doing a shorter commute I was getting around 30 mpg which is very close to the official combined figure of 29.1 mpg.
  6. 38.65 mpg. 533.5 miles. I just use standard unleaded (usually Shell).
  7. This sounds to me like the RDS tried to tune into a traffic report but probably gave up due to the signal being too weak or something.
  8. That was me - but I probably don't drive with all the "enthusiasm" of some the other members here. I do a 50 mile commute each way, 90% of which is between 60 and 70 mph, and average around 35 mpg. My best figures are 38.65 mpg and 533.5 miles on a single tank. When I was doing a shorter and slower commute I could only manage around 30 mpg (slightly better than 30 in the summer and slightly worse than 30 in the winter).
  9. I think the only thing that uses that button is the optional Mini-disc player.
  10. The light comes on when there's about 10-11 litres left. So, if you can manage say 30 mpg, then you should be able to get over 60 miles with the light on (in theory :) )
  11. It even tells you how to do it in the user manual - so it must be easy :)
  12. I do mine with a jack and axel stands. It's a bit tricky and you really need the Toyota SST (Special Service Tool) because unlike most filters, which just go hand tight, the IS200 one needs an extra 3/4 turn.
  13. This is what the manual says... Manual transmission: Oil capacity = 1.9L (2.0 qt., 1.7Imp.qt.) Oil type = Multipurpose gear oil API GL-4 or GL-5 Recommended oil viscosity = SAE 75W-90 Differential: Oil type = Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 Oil viscosity = SAE 90 (above -18deg.) SAE 80W or SAE 80W-90 (below -18deg.) The service manual makes no mention of changing the gearbox oil (though it should be inspected every 4 years / 40,000 miles). The differential oil should be replaced every 20,000 miles / 2 years. I was told by the dealer that they used Castrol Syntrax SAE 75W-90. This doesn't quite match up with the specification in the manual but, since I couldn't find anything that did match exactly, it's what I used. Be aware that the differential takes approximately 1100ml of oil so if you buy it in 1 litre bottles you will need two.
  14. My IS200 is coming up to 2 years old and 27,000 miles and I have a couple of questions about the servicing due. 1) Under the “Additional inspections” section, the manual lists the charcoal canister for every 2 years. Can anyone tell me where this is located (presumably either under the bonnet or under the rear of the car near the fuel tank) and how to inspect it (i.e. how can you tell if it needs replacing)? 2) Also in this section of the manual, it states “ATF to be inspected” at 27,000 miles. I've been told ATF stands for Automatic Transmission Fluid (which wouldn't apply to my car) but, if it does, then why is “Automatic Transmission Oil” also listed separately? Surely Automatic Transmission Fluid is the same as Automatic Transmission Oil? One other question relating to servicing while I'm here. There is no mention of a service interval for replacing either fuel filter or the manual transmission oil (only inspecting it). Does anyone know how often they should be replaced for this car?
  15. Does anyone know which drive shaft bolts are supposed to be tightened at each full (20,000 mile) service and what torque value they should be tightened to?
  16. mardibloke, I've got a tow bar on my IS200 which I fitted myself. Something you might be interested in - I bought mine from the Lexus dealer but it is actually made by Brink so you might be able to get it cheaper if you buy it directly from them. The instructions for fitting it came with a template that you can use to cutout sections from a rear-skirt as fitted to Sport models. I didn't need to do this since I have an SE.
  17. I seem to remember reading in the manual that Lexus dealers can re-program the delay on the interior light switching off, as well as the thresholds for the auto headlights. I haven't had either changed so don't know how helpful dealers are regarding this.
