  1. Hi ahmedali44, Sorry to hear about your problem, seems like the same problem I had although I could at least drive my car to car surgeon. Imran is a good chap and knows what he is doing, I know it still put a dent in your pocket but it's worth it. Yesterday I got 50mpg in 5th gear at 70mph which I never got until I had the dpf sorted. My car feels so different since going to car surgeon. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted mate. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  2. Hi Thedreamer, I just read one I your previous post in regards to the software, best not to discuss any further :) Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  3. Hi Thedreamer, Which software are you using to do the force regeneration if you don't mind me asking please as that's also something I would like to do with my is220d as recently I had issues with my dpf being blocked. Thank you in advance Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  4. Thank you fellow members, I'm just so happy they sorted the problem, it's gave me food for thought as to my driving habits with the is220d, the car just needs more careful attention to keep it running properly. It's a great car to drive otherwise. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  5. Hi all, I apologise in advance to fellow members as my post will be a little long but I believe it's worth me posting as it may help fellow members who might be having the issues I have had. My car is a late 2010 is220d which I purchased with full Lexus service history about 6 months ago. When I bought the car I joined this forum which by the way has helped me more then I can say so thank you to everyone who contributes to this club. When I got my car I immediately serviced it with good quality parts and oil, I also cleaned the egr valve out as it was sooted up pretty bad despite Lexus replacing it 6 months before my purchase. I also ran a can of bg244 which did help clear things up a little in terms of smoothness and pickup, I've driven about 10k miles since. I use my car both motorway and town driving 60 miles motorway and 40 miles town on average 5 days a week, 3 weeks ago I got the engine light and traction light come on and car went into limp mode, code p0400 which relates to faulty egr valve got towed home and took egr off this time I thoroughly cleaned the whole unit using 2 large cans of carb cleaner and a tooth brush, back on the car took it for a spin everything seemed fine mpg back up to around 40 mpg on motorway and 30-32 mpg around town, happy days so I thought. 2 weeks ago I noticed that the car would start smoking greyish white and a tiny hint of blue from the exhaust around every hour or so sometimes once warmed up other times when idling or driving along with this very unusual smell, this would last about 20 seconds or so also when I gave it a bit of a boot in 1st and 2nd gear during the gear change up I would get smoke from the exhaust at times. No loss of coolant or oil since I bought the car so not related to HG failure. On reading posts from fellow members who were having similar issues I figure it had something to do with the famous fifth injector and DPF, so off to the motorway, drove in 4th gear at 3k revs to get the car to Regen I tried this several times each time driving for about 20-30 minutes on cruise control. This helped a little with the smoke issue but it's was still happening frequently. 4 days ago whilst traveling on 4th gear and 3k revs on motorway I got the engine light on and traction light but no limp mode, got home after driving for 70 miles read the code as p2002 - particulate trap below threshold bank 1. With my DPF blocked and my failed attempts to Regen I called around 20 different garages around Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire to get someone who could clean the DPF out. Boy was I taken for a mug or what by so many cowboy mechanics who were telling me I need to spend £800-£1200 to get my problems solved, some even said I needed an engine head strip down to clean everything out and one cowboy mech based in Hemel Hempstead went on to say all the information I got from the club forum is all false and nonsense from people who think they are mechanics, he went on to say his been in the trade for years and knows that my car has major engine issues other then the blocked DPF without even looking at my car! Anyway got back searching the club forum and came across a post with recommendation of a service. I would like to say a big thank you to the fellow members who made this recommendation about Car Surgeon based in Birmingham. Gave them a call, spoke to Imran who seemed to know a lot about the is220d's and issues. He booked me in the same day, so drove up, met Imran at his garage, he ran diagnostics first to confirm code and faults, explained what he would do, clean the DPF with a chemical additive, test/clean egr and run live diagnostics along with attempting a forced Regen after cleaning. Well 3-4 hours later and £309 pounds lighter my car was running like never before, I averaged 46-47mpg at 70mph on 5th gear cruise control, car felt very responsive and very smooth, the difference compared to when I bought the car was was more then worth the money I paid to get it sorted plus no more smoke. Imran advised that I need to give the car a spirited run on the motorway at least every 3 weeks based on my own driving habits and to use good quality fuel not from supermarkets. I received a honest and professional service from Imran and Car Surgeon. Thank you again to all the members of the club forum who contribute and help, without your input I probably wouldn't have solved my issue and got ripped off severely! I have put the details of the garage below in case any fellow members are having similar issues to what I had. Imran - 07853355415 Car Surgeon Ltd based in Birmingham. 6. Wow that air filter is the worst I've seen ever! That air filter does not look like it's ever been changed. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  7. A word of advice, I would be very careful If your thinking of going ahead with it. My opinion I wouldn't as it's a big risk as it can possibly damage your ECU and more as I haven't heard anyone that has successfully remapped an Is220d. People have used add on units which fool the ECU. Also even with a stainless steel and panel filter, the gains on bhp will be at minimum 3-5 bhp increase. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  8. I'm very surprised why the rest if the ECU remapping specialist have not been able to do it. Very interesting, has he done any IS220's and what were the results? Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  9. Hi Arthur92, Just wondering if you managed to resolve your issue yet? I hope you have got it sorted, it would be good to know what the problem was as it's helps fellow members with same or similar issues. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  10. You might want try either BG244 or Archoil AR6400-D, I have read good reviews about these 2 products, I generally don't believe in the fuel additives and cleaning products, but I have tried both of these products and got good results. Have a read up on the 2 products and decide for yourself, they cost on average about £20 each. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  11. I would check the fuel filter as I have heard they can get dirty and cause problems you described. Only thing is it's a tricky job. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  12. Check your coolant level has it dropped? Also you can get a simple test done which checks for exhaust gases in the coolant. I would also try resetting ECU again, leave battery off overnight. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  13. Thank you all for your replies, it's such a shame as I really love the car. Darn DMF! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  14. Bugger! I was hoping it's the main clutch bits and not the flywheel. Any ideas where to buy the parts without going to Lexus as they charge an arm and a leg for parts! Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  15. Hi all, I have a 2010 is220d manual, its done 117k which are mostly motorway miles, it's fully serviced (due for a service in about 2k miles) and runs perfectly but I have noticed over the last couple of days since I have been driving a good few hundred miles that when the car has been driven for a while I get a 1st gear judder when moving off. It's perfectly fine when cold but once I drive for a while I get this judder when in 1st gear whilst lifting the clutch to move off, all other gears are fine, I have noticed that it doesn't judder all the time I would at least 70% of times whilst in traffic. Any help and ideas are welcomed as to where I need to start looking my gut tells me the clutch needs replacing? Thank you everyone in advance. KC Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  16. Hi M3G, Sorry to hear about your parents issue with their vehicle, I have to agree that this is very disappointing news given the reputation of Lexus. I myself own a 2010 model Is220d and believed that Lexus have made modifications to this model to prevent this known issue which I'm sure you are now aware that it's a manufacturer design fault after reading all the issues that owners have had with this engine. This engine is also used in various Toyota models too and their owners have had the same issues. It's a great shame that Lexus are not willing to help given that your parents and others bought their Lexus based on the reputation of Lexus and it's reliability and obviously the modifications that Lexus have made to the engine in your parents case has not solved the issue! I myself will never purchase a Toyota or Lexus in future, don't get me wrong not everyone has had issues with their is220d, but based on facts and what customers expect of Lexus it's a big disappointment! I would suggest contacting trading standards and getting legal advice as to which way your parents move forward with this. Good luck I hope there's some light at the end of the tunnel for your parents. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  17. Get your alternator tested as the symptoms suggest a possible alternator fault. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  18. I had the same problem with my previous car (not lexus), after changing the battery 2 weeks later it happened again with the new battery all dash lights on but when I pushed start button it gave me a fast ticking noise but no start, this time the RAC chap removed my air box out of the way so that he could have a look at the grounding cables, he told me to try and start the car, sure enough he found the fault as I was trying to start the car he could see a lot of sparks coming off the grounding cable attached to the car body which was sitting under the air box, he unbolted the cable from the car cleaned both contact surfaces with wire brush and electrical spray, car fired up first time after that and never gave me any more issues like this. I think your problems maybe along the same lines, dirty contact of the cables. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  19. Your right, the units aren't cheap so spend wisely! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  20. Hope you don't face the same issues as I have, it's very daunting as you end up feeling helpless as you can't do much because the trader isn't in the uk. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  21. That's the main problem I faced buddy, their communication/support was very poor which is why after about of 6 months of trying to resolve the issues I got rid of the unit at a significant loss. Hope Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  22. I disconnected my battery before for over 2.5 hours and I did not lose any settings that needed a dealer attention so I think your quite safe, I also have a 2010 is220d. I would check and clean your battery terminals make sure they both are secured properly, failing that get the alternator tested as it might not be charging your battery properly. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  23. I received the purchase but trying to get support was very hard and proving that there was an issue with the software interface as the unit would become very sluggish after about an hour of use, the touch screen would start to respond after about 2-3 seconds and so on. But this was about 5 years ago, so things maybe better now and the unit I got was for my previous car which was not a Lexus, perhaps I was one if the unlucky ones that got a lemon! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  24. I would be careful buying the 3rd party/universal units from china, usually they are of poor build quality and the user interface i.e. software is not very user friendly. There also maybe other issues like installation and getting support. Just a heads up buddy as I have been down that route a few years ago and ended up at a loss! If you are going down that route please do the homework before you part with your hard earned cash. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
