  1. Hi Gary, I can't believe this is still ongoing buddy, you must have spent quite a bit by now! Be mindful that you don't spend over the cars value, plus all the hours you put in. I really do feel for you, personally I think the is220d is a money pit when things go wrong. Thumbs up to your perseverance, I really hope you get somewhere with this and sort it. Good luck buddy. Can't believe the Lexus techs can't solve this one, are they not the experts!? Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  2. Word of advice, avoid the is220d like plague unless you will be doing like over 20k miles a year otherwise I would recommend the is250 instead. I been driving diesels all my life for over 15 years the is220d is by far the worst diesel I've ever owned, never again! Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  3. So sorry to hear that I really feel for you. Even though I haven't got my is220d I have been following this thread closely as this car has puzzled me to the point of going insane. Keep us posted on updates, let's see what the makers themselves find! Good luck buddy I hope it doesn't become a money pit for you as it did with me. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  4. You know if this fix works and stops the smoking and poor economy issues it could be very beneficial to other is220d owner out there who are having similar issues. Keep it posted once you get the work done. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  5. £313 ouch! Hope it does solve your problems, keep us posted on the results. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  6. Hi Badger1966, I could be wrong but it maybe some of your injectors could be dirty, if they are then injector spray pattern would be effected hence it could be over fuelling therefore detecting fuel leak? Ask Lexus to check injector readings on diagnostics. I really feel for you as I recently got rid of my is220d, I realised that when this car runs fine it's ok, but the minute something goes wrong, it becomes a endless money pit! I really hope you get it sorted out, good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  7. Hi Steve, My work requires me to do a lot of motorway and town driving so yes your right heading to German or even British brand! As I had a Ford diesel before the Lexus and it never missed a beat! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  8. Hi everyone, Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this great club, for all the advise and the expert knowledge I wish I had looked at this club forum before I purchased my full Lexus service history dreaded 2010 model is220d. I owned the car for just over a year and I'm glad to say I no longer own it, even looking after it religiously and using shell nitro diesel it still gave endless problems and issues and made my wallet extremely light. The design of the engine was defective and flawed originally and ever since Lexus never got it right with that Diesel engine. I can't speak for the is200d but I can put hands on my heart and advise anyone against purchasing a is220d. It a shame that because of all the troubles I got from the is220d, it's really put me off the Lexus mark also the service I got from a few Lexus dealers were so poor, the minute you mention the is220d they don't want to know but are happy to take your hard earned cash! However as fellow members will advise that not all Lexus models are a dog like the is220d! Maybe one day I will return to Lexus but it will be a long time before my faith in the brand is restored. Thank you all again and goodbye for now. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  9. Apparently it's true that you now can remap the is220d, I have spoken to a few reputable mappers and they have confirmed that the ecu is no longer locked as of a few months ago! Personally I wouldn't bother wasting time on the is220d, it's a heap of ******* engine design that has endless problems! Get rid of it while it's still running ok, that's my opinion. I got rid of mine just recently and I'm soooo glad I did! I'm sure other members will advise the same. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  10. That's normal. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  11. Rizzy, The gearing ratios on the is220d are very high so doing 60 in fifth may be ok for a while but your labouring the engine which eventually leads to problems. As for your shaking and juddering your getting now could be due to the egr valve being clogged up, it may have been caused by labouring the engine, I would start there. Hope you get it sorted keep us updated Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  12. I also have a 2010 model and one thing for sure is that the gear box isn't the quietest always been a little clunky, they are robust but it's a clunky one, not the best designed unit for quietness but you do get used it. As for the water pump, yes they do fail, some people have replaced theirs 3 times, mine just had to be replaced last week! See how it goes for you with Lexus, if your not happy maybe you can ask for them to take the vehicle back under sale of goods act, hope you get it sorted. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  13. I could be wrong but I think there was an Ecu update from Lexus on the pre 2008 models which was supposed to help with this issue, it's something to do with the fifth injector dumping a lot of fuel during warm up or something along those lines. I'm sure someone will confirm my advice. I think you may need o check with a Lexus dealer on this issue. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  14. Hi mate, I was going to say get your turbo checked out as I think the turbo is not active in 1st gear, hence why you seem to be ok in 1st, I believe the turbo kicks in around 1800rpm from 2nd gear onwards, so your problems could be turbo related, I hope other members will have a better input then me, I hope you get to the bottom of your problem. I would also get a decent code reader so that you can check when you get the MIL lights. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  15. BG244 works wonders in cleaning the entire fuel system, reading the posts above you have been given some excellent advice on improving performance and maintenance. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  16. Thanks buddy, believe me when I say I'm so relieved it wasn't a major expense. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  17. Sorted with a can of BG244 and a good run! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  18. Oh, my car has done 123k miles but mostly motorway miles Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  19. Hi, Sorry I have a is220d, late 2010 model. It's I got it put on tech-stream software and it's come up with P1238 Injector, when looking at the live data for the 4 injector feedback values, one of them seems to be stuck with a value of 5.0 the rest change as I press gas or idle. Could this be a faulty injector? Thank you again Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  20. Hi all, More car troubles unfortunately, everything was running perfect until I suddenly got this juddering the whole car was shaking as if it didn't have enough diesel, lack of power too. Anyway after getting home I parked up and got mil light a long with traction light, code read and come up with P1238 Injector, any idea's where to start please? Car is very well maintained and shell performance diesel always used. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  21. This will look so awesome when it's complete, thumbs up to you for all the hard work your putting in, that's shear dedication! Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  22. I was charged £309, I drove my vehicle to car surgeon, I know they do a collect and return service if your car is not drivable but cost depends on where are are located. Give him a ring and enquire. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  23. + 1 I had the same problem got it sorted via car surgeon ltd about 3 weeks ago. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  24. Have you tried cleaning with electronic contact cleaner, will cost you about £5, just spray the delicate sensor and leave to air dry before fitting back. It just might be very dirty if it's never been cleaned before. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  25. Hi Haydor89, I did get a clutch specialist to drive my car before to see if it's really worth getting the clutch/DMF replaced, the chap drove my car and said it's not worth replacing yet as the problem was very slight and did not happen often enough to warrant spending the money. Since my post I have learnt to drive the car without getting the judder 98% of the time, I have learnt you just can't take off very quickly off 1st gear. I believe it's somewhat also the characteristics of this particular car from what I have read from other peoples posts previously. I would get a clutch specialist to test drive it and get their opinion, also I'm sure other more knowledgeable members will have some input on here perhaps. Let us know how you get on with your problem as it would be good to know the outcome, just a heads up that the cost of clutch and DMF alone are in the region of £800+ depending on where you get parts from and then labour.
