  1. Call the dealer, ask if it's something simple you can fixo yourself. Maybe ask them to collect the car as it's the 3rd fault (I don't know how old the car is) Maybe you can rendezvous with one of their employees if some one lives or drives past your side of the dealership. Good Luck, I have not had to use a dealer yet, but I've only had my Lex for a week now.
  2. Any one know what happened to the LOC on-line store. I am after some mats for my LS400 and silver chrome badges for it, plus an air filter and a pair of bonnet struts. Perhaps some one has some of these and is willing to sell ???
  3. If you dsconnect the existing terminals, you may have all sorts of things to reset afterwards, like clock, set memory maybe, alarm etc. It is normally fine to piggy back a mains battery charger to the batterery terminals while the leads are still connected. This is what the AA do to start cars and how you would do it with jump leads from another car.
  4. It sounds like the battery to me. If I were you, firstly I would try recharging the battery, but you do need to find out what has drained it. Perhaps an interior light was left on? I have heard of batteries being drained by the glove box not shutting off it's internal-light because the glove box was too full of stuff. It might be an idea to only charge the battery now, and tonight when it is dark, look inside the car to see if anything is on and fix it. Then you can be more confidant that the battery will not be drained again. If recharging does not resolve it for long, it could be time for a new battery, I'm told the average like of a battery is about 5 years, but no idea how much above average the Lexus batteries will be. Good luck
  5. Colinbarber made it clear in this post. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...c=20509&hl=auto Colin, can you confirm this summary please? Basically, coasting in N is not good for 4 simple reasons; 1-Safety, you are not in as much control of the car. 2-Failure, if the engine stalls while coasting, which is more likely while in N, power steering and braking will not work for long, and the LS is a heavy car. In fact, you probably will not hear it stall as it is so quiet any way. 3- In N the oil is not being circulated properly and could make parts of the box hot and/or overheat, which could be compounded by poping a hot box into Drive when it really needs all oil circulating for cooling. This is why you must not tow an auto car with the driven wheels on the ground. 4- Fuel conservation occurs when the box is slowing the car, as the fuel cut off is enabled and zero fuel is used while slowing down. In N, fuel is being used to maintain idle speed. But when stationary (at the lights etc) being in N is ok besause the wheels are not turning and you will not be poping it back into drive at speed. When stationary, the load on the box is reduced when in N, and less fuel is used. Colin, is that an accurate summary, and is it the case that all LS400s have a fuel cut while the autobox is braking the car? I specifically have a '95 MkIII with the stepped transmission stick. I actually thought that fuel cut offs were not used on petrol cars because the cat could get damaged by unburnt petrol, but it was ok on diesel cars for some reason, perhaps injection technology has moved on???? Many thanks in advance..... Simon.
  6. Hi, new to Lexus Ls400 and only my 2nd outo car . When coming off the motorway, or down a long hill, and up to red lights, I like to pop the auto into N and enjoy reduced petrol consumption at idle speed often for .3 or .4 of a mile. :D Sometimes I'll coast to a stop and other times pop it back into D at 30 mph or something. For my 100mile commute trip, I can be doing this bout 10 times wich is a free-"ish" 3 or 4 miles in a day. :D :D :D Is this a bad thing for the autobox? Some one told me that it is not good for the torque converter. Look forward to some comments and links to auto box web sites maybe. :mat: Thanks in advance.
  7. For a LazyOaf, that is a lot of shopping, buying, selling and scrapping too. Proper Petrol head, I like it.
  8. Thanks Leadfoot, Looks like once I get the "S" air intake pipe off, I can assess how dirty it looks in the throttle body and a bit more if I open the butterfly. I take your point on the V8 mass, I'm used to a rover 2.0 in line 4 (auto) which provides much more engine braking. I'm just keen to get under the bonnent and get my hands dirty on that big lump of a V8. I think "an inspection of the TB" will provide me with enough parts to clean up for now and if the TB is dirty, then it can be cleaned too. As for the STP cleaner, I will have to have a closer look in my auto-sores to see what I can find, can you reccomend anything as a substitute or equivelant?
  9. Well, I notice on my new car, new to me but 114k miles, that the throttle does not return or drop very quickly at all, so I thought I should clean it as there has been much talk on the forum of cleaning them to resolve throttle hunting type problems. So where is it? Would it be the arrowed "S" pipe in the 5th pic down on this link? or is it the ali bit the pipe connects to above? http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...x_v2&id=175&c=7 Thanks in advance. Simon.
  10. Hi All, I did it, just got myself a March 95 Ls400 in dark blue, grey interior with just 114 on the clock. :D :D :D Need to get a couple of things sorted, so looking for advice: Does any one have a spare petrol cap, where is a good place to get interior mats from, There seems to be a ticking noise under heavy acceleration, should I get the throttle body cleaned up, Ariel makes a horrible noise when it gets to full length, any advise about how to repair it, or not. When can I get a few of the lost tools from the tool kit, Where do I order filters etc from for servicing, any makes to go for or avoid, I'm happy with non-lexus parts, but Toyota sounds good. Thanks in advance. Simon.
  11. Ohhhhh, so it seems that high milage Over 800s are fine, once some poor person has had all the warrantry repairs etc sorted out. Ahhhhhh, I just can't wait to get my Ls400, Looking at 2 more this week. Roll on the weekend.
  12. I'm looking for a Mk III 95-on Ls400 and there seems to be a great variety of colours and names of the colours, eg is it gold or beige? Is there any where that shows a list of colours and samples of them? What about the leather, is there a defined list of interior colours too? Gallery and library pics are fine but camera settings can make the colours so off-real. Thanks in advance.
  13. Hi jeastham, I'm a Rover 800 man today (or is that Over 800?), only an 820, but Sli auto. I do 450 miles a week commuting. Much underrated for their value at the moment, I have 153k miles and was £700 just 18 months ago, I think I paid too much. A trouble free 25k has been enjoyed in that time, but the climate control is dead. I've been at Melt-down point a couple of days. This is my opportunity to cruise up a few pegs too, 4 more pots and ample luxury and style so I'm after a MkIII (95-on) with Lexus history looking at 120 k miler for about £3-4k and should be good for 5 years at least. Or should I just get another Rover800 for £500 ? Me too, why pay an extra 3k for sat nav (would not use it more than a few times a year) another 8% in bhp and a few more updates, MkIII is well good enough. happy hunting.
  14. Thanks JayBeeBee, I can look at '95-on cars with even more confidance.
  15. Not so silly. But, Today I have a Rover 800 1995 M reg and there is no sticker for the air-con, so I had to take it to a dealer for ID. That's why I had to ask the Silly question. :mat:
  16. Hi, I understand that the air-con gas R12 contains CFCs and so banned, but the newer R134a is the stuff to have today, however conversion can be very expensive. I beleive that the change over time was around 1995 which is M reg and the start of Mk3 production. I'm looking for a decent Mk 3 Ls400, but wish to make sure that it is R134a in the A?C. How can I make sure a Mk3 is R134a charged. Thanks in advance. Simon.
  17. Try calling Lexus UK for the radio code, they are normally very helpfull.
  18. There also seems to be confusion between "Generations" and "Marks". Gen 1 = mk1 and mk2 Gen 2 = mk3 and mk4. Gen 2 has redesigned shape, just look at previous post from steve, obvious difference is: headlights and bonnet line from rad straight back to screen or over to the mirror.
  19. The auto trader price was £4,195, I've only got a thumb nail picture and it's not there any more. I missed it on ebay I think you got a good bargain, WELL DONE, only reason I did not dash to see it is I'm after a black interior. C&L cars, tel 0116 235 1099 or 07749 487 063, you'll know if it is the same one.
  20. I think a real easy way to tell 1st generation (-95) from 2nd generation (95 on) is the auto gear lever. 1st gereration (Mk 1 and Mk2) are straight line between gears, 2nd generation (mk3 at least) is stepped between R & N etc etc. crippscars, did you by the motor from C&L cars as advertised in autotrader, tel 0116 ........, Leicester way? That was on my "to be viewed" list for next week, sounded a good one, well done.
  21. 1/ If the vibretaion is felt in the steering wheel you could swap the fronts with the rears? 2/ You can measure the off-sets, crudly your-self. Take eah wheel in turn (spare as well), place it on the ground outside down (maybe on a piece of carpet to protect it), put a straight edge accross the wheel's diameter and measure the distance from the straight edge to the wheels face where it would sit on the hub. As the tyre bulges out, for your straight edge, use a piece of wood that is cut down so that both ends sit on the wheel rim, otherwise the tyre walls will generate all sorts of inaccurate readings.
  22. Thanks Chris, I viewed the car but infact it car had all sort of problems, it had been repaired badly, screews missing, battery not clamped down, hedlights recessed by 1 cm, overall it was just poor, so walked away. Yup, plenty about and not in a rush so will keep looking. Simon.
  23. I'm looking to buy a 96 model and one that I have seen has the ABS light on the dash. The chap says it has been on for the past 2 years. The manual I have says if the light is on, there is a fault somewhere in the ABS system and the ABS will be turned off, consult your dealer. Has anybody had any experience of this sort of thing. Is it likely to be a major problem or should I stay away from the car? Thanks in advance.
  24. Hi, I'm considering an LS400, probably a MkIII, does the CD player play MPs disks? if not, is there a simple upgrade? ANy advice?
  25. Thanks Chris, Does your manual say how the car will give information about Fuel usage. If not, I would suspect that the Trip meters are infact 2 mileometers?? What do you think??
