  1. Congratulations. Unfortunately your wifes car will plumit in value with depreciation. You will lord it around in the best V8 luxury motor throughly enjoying every mile of it. Try to put away £100 a month and when you LS dies, (years away) you'll have tons of cash to buy another one, they are such good value. Once an LS driver, always an LS driver. You will find it near impossible to find any other car that is any where as good as an LS400. Enjoy!
  2. Syd, mine looked the same, but dirtier, when I was trying to find the cause of my leaking boot....... never did find it either even after plugging all holes and seams with sealant. What does your new tow bar look like? Do you have a picture of it before it went on. And get some old carpet tiles, it makes working under the car so much more comfortable. I'm now wondering how a tow bar will interfere (it is bound to) with an LPG conversion and the donut tank.
  3. Thanks Syd, good feedback, that will save me a few hours when I fit mine. But I'm feeling guilty that I should fix the steering pump leak and replace the cam belt first before I treat myself to the tow bar.
  4. I was going to say that. It is always worth cleaning the Throttle Body. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/throttlebody.html
  5. and at about 4 miles per litre (as you mentioned before), that will be a quarter of the rates you calculated above, say 1/3 of a penny per mile. Todate I have averaged 26MPG on petrol and 16p per mile, over 20,000 miles in 12 months. If LPG halves my costs, that is 8p per mile, plus 1/3p for flashlube, that is nicely below your estimate of 10 p per mile. I like the sound of LPG even more now. If a conversion costs me 2,000 and I save 6ppm, the conversion will break even after 33,333 miles or 1 and 2/3 years.
  6. "4" !!!!! OUCH. What I meant was...... Flashlube is about £17 a litre. How many miles does the LS400 do for 1 litre of Flashlube?
  7. At between £16 and £18 per litre, how many miles do you do to the litre. This will need to be factored into my running costs.
  8. What is all this "flashlube" stuff about. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of other places too.
  9. Adam, did you get this sorted ok, if so how? I have a whining steering pump and need to decide what to do. Funny thing is, it only occurs when the car is cold.
  10. Alex, don't rush, you will find a Mark III in you budget, just be patient. There are a couple on autotrader, fsh '95 cars between 2.5 and 3 k within 50 miles of Guildford, probaly the same all over the country?
  11. It caught me out too the first time. But even the flange type bar is detachable. It has 2 big bolts through it. I think you just need a square plastic stopper and it will look quite tidy when removed.
  12. Me too, I have done 20k in the last year. But the prices (2k-2.5k)I have seen make 35k the breakeven point. I'm not feeling that I can wait 2 years to start to save, but I have yet to do the detailed research. I know a V8 would be a bit mor expensive to convert than a 4 pot, but not twice the amout.
  13. Hi Only for LS from year 2000 Regard Syd Sorry Syd, I have to beg to differ. Select "Flanged Type", then 2nd one down..... It is the Watling PTY70DT which is for LS400 jan 95 UCF20. For me, this means it will fit a Mk III. I have a copy of the fitting instructions, faxed to me from Watling, Watling LS400 95->. I am still planning on buying 1, but not ready yet, I need to sort my noisey steering pump 1st.
  14. Towing Equipe These guys distribute the Watling unit at £220, including vat, ball and electrics.
  15. WHO quoted you for the LPG conversion, I'm planning for one soon.
  16. It is similair with my employer, but are even stingyer, I get just 14.8 ppm. However I can clam the extra 25.2 ppm as tax releif from the Inland Revenue, but have to wat for the end of the tax year and my P60 to arrive first. It means I see the repayment as a lump sum and can use it for something good.
  17. Mariusz, from your web site, it looks like you have changed a piston, I'd guess you will be fine with most mechanical repairs..... if you ever suffer a failure. By the way, why did you have to change a piston?
  18. maneesh, That is my complete problem, what is there that is as good as an LS? NOTHING ! I was driven in a 54 reg BMW 3.0 diesel the other day, plastic interior, clatter box under the bonnet and hard seats. LPG seems the only way to make my LS running costs cheaper. I do do 20,000 miles a year. Any one know of any good DIY kits or cheap fitters?
  19. I too am absolutely over-the-moon with my 95 LS400. It really is true what I have read on this forum, once an LS driver..... always an LS driver. I was thinking of getting a diesel and converting it to run on veg oil, so I can benifit from 80mpg type costs. But the real big problem is "what diesel to get" which will drive as nicely as my LS? Any one ???
  20. I only have an old Mk III LS400, have to turn the key in the key hole to open the boot. Does any one know why I have to have the ignition OFF to open the boot from the drivers seat with the remote boot lever, and how to override it? It is a bit of a pain when dropping off and collecting passengers, having to turn the engine off.
  21. I am going to do this myself, on my MkIII 1995 LS400, with the help of www.lexls.com and the tutorials I've seen here on the USA forums. BUT, where to get my parts? I'm waiting for a quote from my local stealer, but can anyone tell me any more about this? or any other warnings. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-97-LEXUS...051282379QQrdZ1 Any and all feedback greatfully appreciated.
