  1. For me, big gas gusselers like 4by4s (and us Lexus drivers) pay much more tax to start with because of the massive tax levys on petrol that we use. Highway tax should be based on the miles you do, that is why petrol tax is "fair" compared to road fund tax. Some old chap who has skimped and scrapped for all his life decides that for his last car he will treat him self to a lovely LS400, and he does about 3 thousand miles a year. The person next door drives 40 thousand miles a year in a mid sized family car. WHO creates the most polution and who pays the most tax, what is an extra £40 in income going to do for the govt and the old man? £40 for the LS400 is about the same as the tax on 1 full tank of petrol.
  2. What about under the passenger front seat, in place of the first aid box?
  3. Yes of course, the VIN, and that seems to by why they like to see the previous MOT, so they can just copy the VIN. My tester had a good old look from underneath, but did not look under the bonnet, I suppose some of it is open to interpritation and general feelings rather than exact & precise checks.
  4. WHY does an MOT tester need to go under the bonnet? unless it is to adjust something marginal to make it a pass.
  5. and weak bonnet struts would be the least of your problems.
  6. My 95 Mk III idles at 1800 to start with, a handfull in the snow, and when warn drops progressivly down to 600. But 1800 does seem a lot, probably somne valve blocked or needs cleaning, but I have cleaned the throttle body a while ago.
  7. All very well the dealer doing what they want.... but it is big damage to the brand. Your next buying experience will be based on your last contact with Lexus, your last service. If you purchased a poorcar or lesser car, and the service was fantastic, every time, you would probably buy another. Such a short sighted view of Lexus GB.
  8. Will these work on a Mk III August 1995 car because that site just mentions Mk I & Mk II.
  9. No sat nav in the Mk III, so ok there. CD multi changer is in the dash in the Mk III, so ok there too. Any way, most of the time they can behave so they get around in comfort.
  10. Who knows how successful this will be in the long term but I just registered with www.pipelinecard.org The idea is to create a petrol loyalty card that is intended to give (they hope) between a 5 to 10p / litre discount. Have a read and see what you think - it's totally FREE. It's been in Evo, the FT and on ITV so the publicity is there and they've got 150,000 subscribers so far. Even if it flops or is a scam, it must be worth a try?
  11. Shaft, nice feature for the beemer. No kids allowed in my car if they are wet. No wet animals either. They all know about the boot, I keep it empty and they have no control of the sound system from in there.
  12. Steve, might this be what you are after? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lexus-LS400-Air-Inta...1QQcmdZViewItem
  13. When I did my EGR pipe (MkIII) I had access problems. I too feared for the rounding off of the nut-heads for a 10 year old car, so I purchased a 6 sided socket set in advance, under the theory that the ratchets sensitivity (intructions said 5 degrees) was a much smaller angle than one twelth of a 12 sided socket (30 degrees). For 1 of the nut,s by the CAT, I ended up using a 6 inch rathet handle, which had a hole in the end of it, and I tied cord to that and led the line up through the engine bay and gave it a big heave with a "T" handle (made from a torque whrench) [big Sorry to MacRS200]. It was ok and budged. Super wrench above has a hole in the end of the handle too, could be usefull? Also, often after a nights sleep, things tend to work out better the next day with a fresh mind. Ring a dealer and ask their advice, you could blame it on a third party mechanic who is in difficulty, and perhaps they will take pitty on you and your pride and joy. Good Luck & Sleep well!
  14. Shaft, does the beemer have an air vent on the underside of the steering column, most people don't even know it is there in the LS (MkIII). It's cool nuts in the summer for us you know.
  15. Yes, I always try to park on the end of a row, halves to chances of a door opening onto me, or next to a clean car. I also heard a rumour that the supermarket home delivery van drivers are told to drive off if they scrape and cars in residential roads. After all, if they only get seen or caught 20% of the time, that is 80% of the claims against them that will not happen. Sad but beleivably true!
  16. LS400 : BEST feature WITHOUT doubt................... owning one ! 2nd best.... driving someone elses !!
  17. I only see the very top of the picture, about 3 screens wide and 1 cm tall.
  18. Steve, first get a quote for the part from Lexus, just so you know the Maximum damage, then I think it will be the breakers for you. You do not mention which year your car is?
  19. I think I am more likely to use mine to help a damsel in distress.
  20. With such a large tank, it pays me well to shop around, the Shell garage just off J21a on M25 is 85.9 per litre, 4p less than Tescos. 450 mile on a good tank, if there is lots of short erands to run then it is more like 420. Overall, I am getting 26mpg, but a lot of it is motorway driving.
  21. www.blackcircles.co.uk has Dunlop DZ8s 225/60/16 at £100.78 fitted.
  22. There is a seller on ebay, doing exchanges with new bushes for a "resonable" price. For reasonable read "a lot less than a stealer"
