  1. My car smoked a bit when i first got it ,only now and again it would do it..it didnt do it when i test drove it or i might have been put off lol !! I gave it a good service, changed and filter using mobil ESP,i changed gearbox oil, diff oil, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned out EGR valve and MAF meter and put in a can of BG244 and it cured it but im unsure which of the above it was that stopped it as i did the lot in o one go. I now only ever use shell vpower diesel and i also use archoil 6200 aditve so everything stays clean (or thats the theory anyway). When i service the car i always remove the EGR valve to clean it and touch wood its always fairly clean now so something must be right
  2. Also clean out EGR valve if you can ,as steve says theres a good vid on youtube showing how its done
  3. The first thing to try is probably get some BG244 into it and let that work its way through to clean out the fuel system/injectors to see if that helps, one thing to note though is that it probably will smoke a lot more while your running the BG through it as it cleans the system out
  4. Its probably unburnt diesel, maybe leaky injector, blocked injector??
  5. Im getting around 32mpg round town at the moment, normally get 35-36 in warmer months
  6. I left mine on the setting it came with although ive heard moving it along 1 more setting works well, anymore than 1 more setting causes hesitation from what ive been told. I have the sprintbooster fitted to my car as well which seems to help with the turbo lag and i also have a K N panel air filter fitted and only use shell vpower nitro diesel with archoil 6200 additive...a lot of expense i know but worth it in my opinion, the car is awesome!!
  7. Ive not attempted to remove/change a 5th injector but ive heard its a bit of a pig of a job..from what ive heard the number of the new injector has to be entered into the ECU.Im surprised that you have problem with the DPF though if its motorway miles the car is doing
  8. I went for the pro 2 because it was the newer product and offered the extra 7bhp and more nm or torque over the racechip 1
  9. Yes i think youre right to change to a petrol,it would mean nothing but trouble running the diesel just a few miles a day.
  10. No ive never had that,i did have a very slight stuttering/hesitation around the 1700rpm when i first got the car but the bg244 seemed to cure it and quieten the tickover down slightly
  11. I dont think it needs both, out of the 2 i would say the sprintbooster is the better mod for the car as it also seems to make for a smoother gearchange from 1st to 2nd.
  12. I have a sprintbooster and a racechip fitted and its certainly improved mine,i really enjoy driving it.The torque is awesome now,3rd and 4th gear just pull like a train
  13. When i have used 6th gear in germany it does make it a lovely, quiet and comfortable cruise at 90+ mph its just a shame its pretty useless in the uk
  14. Yes mines the same,as normski says, dont bother using it at less than 85
  15. Yeah its well worth doing, only takes a few minutes to do but it has to dry completely,if you unscrew it then look down the side of it you will see the tiny wires well down inside it ,a good blast with the cleaner and the pressure alone brings any dirt off
  16. Mass airflow meter ,its a small box screwed onto the air intake box, unscrew it and give it a good spray with a good electrical contact cleaner..i use the one made by WD40 with the yellow nozzle available from halfords..then leave it for a while to dry completely and screw back on. If the MAF is dirty it can cause poor running/mpg
  17. Yes it affects it badly if the EGR is badly coked up,have you cleaned your MAF meter as well?? i normally give mine a clean as same time as i clean EGR
  18. Not really noticed any change in performance as it approaches cleaning time but when i first got the car and cleaned it my mpg went up from 32MPG round town to 36 straight after cleaning but it was really badly coked up
  19. I used the mousse type purely because i thought it would cling to the inside of the pipe better while it was left for half hour before i scrubbed it
  20. I use to use carb cleaner then brake cleaner then i used wynns egr cleaner and the last time i did it i used mr muscle mousse oven cleaner and it was just as good !!
  21. Yeah,i have a pipecleaner type thing, sorry i dont know proper name for it.its what the mrs use to use to clean out my flask!! I give the pipe a good spray inside it with oven cleaner, leave it half hour then shove the pipecleaner in to scrub it. Theres never a real lot of muck in that pipe to be fair. I use the bg244 ,good stuff it is,i normally use a can every 10k miles
  22. Mine was like that when i first got the car,i cleaned it out and i now clean it every 5k miles, never very dirty now when i clean it,i use VPower diesel which seems to help keep things cleaner
