Hi Just a word of advice. Because i park my car on the driveway it is exposed to the frost during the night and i usually fold in my mirrors with the electric button when i park up. Now i live on the south coast and it got to -3c last night and when i got in the car this morning the frozen mirrors would not move out when i pushed the button. Also the electric windows had frozen up. Even after driving 6 miles to work they had not thawed out with the heated rear window on. Just a heads up maybe leave them out if your not worried about them getting ripped off by passing traffic in the icy weather.

Thanks again Steve but here is my dilema. On average i will only do 5-6k miles per year so i do not plan on having the car serviced by the dealership until it reaches the 5 years of age period when the 'Essential' servicing pricing kicks in. I do already have the 3 stamps, the last one being 6 months late if we are talking registration dates. I would rather spend money only paying for work that needs to be done and why they should have to charge £49 for an MOT when a service is being carried out beats me. I remember the old 20w 50 oils in my first cars that needed changing every 6K miles but i thought the idea of the synthetics like the magnetec and Mobil1 had around 20K useful life. Dont get me wrong im only stating an opinion not criticising what you do with your own oil changes. All i am trying to do is strike a balance between keeping the vehicle well maintained and the service stamps within the mileage criteria not necessarily date criteria at a minimal cost.

Thanks Steve and Malcolm. So at the moment my car is 3.5 years old and if i have the next service done at 5 yrs and one month then i assume the price of the Full service would be £299. I could at that point take out the essential care 2yr package at the fixed? prices see link. Stumbled upon it when i was doing a dealership search.

Reading through some of the earlier posts on various forums i get the impression that the cost of a service differs from each Lexus dealership. With this in mind can i assume that the cost of the service plan differs between dealerships? Also being of a suspicious nature you are given the sales patter that by paying monthly you will not have a hefty bill when the car needs servicing. Is this just a hook to get you into their service centre then they can hit you with additional items like brakes, calipers etc? Do any of you use this sevice plan option and what is your experience? What is the opinion on the second hand value of a used car wit a full lexus service history or independant garage service stamps. for example would the car be worth more if it had a full lexus service history and is it therefore a false economy in the long term to have it service more cheaply locally? Bought car from Tunbridge Wells but i suppose Canterbury ( same group but offer Gold member discount) or Guilford may be options?

Can i ask a supplementary question here. I recently traded in my Audi A4 2.4 V6 ( 60K ) on the clock and it used a pint of oil every 800 miles. This apparently is normal according to the forums until it gets to 100k miles then it uses less?. Do you find the Lexus IS250 needs topping up much between oil changes, i would normally check once a month anyway and will probably need to confirm with the dealer what they have filled it up with as there is no info in the service booklet.

Is there a reason why you guys have bought the additional tyres instead of Tyre Socks for the occasional bad weather. Maybe im being a bit green here having only ever had front wheel drive cars for the last 30 years but now have recently purchased an IS250.

Try the guys at Bexhill motors, Richard and Lee will not rip you off. Their labour is £45 an hour and do the water pump at the same time as it will cost you no too if it later needs replacing.

ROFLMAO hahaha.......As you have had the car 15 years what do you use to clean and preserve the leather upholstery. I dont know the answer to this question but how many times would you expect to sit on the seat of an IS250 before the leather wears out assuming a person of average weight say 85kg. Do they test the seats like IKEA do? I think i better have an extra malt tonight , happy new year to you guys.

Hi I purchased my Lexus IS250 Advance on a 2011 plate a couple of weeks ago and i am looking forward at the servicing and maintenance options. I love the car so far and its a real pleasure to drive with the auto option. I only do apx 5k miles per year so is it really necessary to have the car serviced or the oil changed every 12 months now that most vehicles have either fully or semi synthetic oils in use. Do most people use the main dealerships for servicing and if so is it worth paying to become a gold member of the forum to get a discount. In 18 months time the car will be 5 years old so is it worth waiting for the next major service at that time when the price of a major service drops to under £300. Lets talk tyres, the current ones are Dunlop sport maxx and have done 23k so will probably need replacing in 5k miles. has anyone changed to what they consider a better option. I wouldn't really want higher levels of road noise so if sticking with the dunlops is the only option then so be it. I changed from Dunlop to Vredstein on a previous car and they were the best tyres i have had for wear, road holding and wear.
