  1. Even though you've got really low miles I would still have the oil changed as it can breakdown over 12 mths and as you are doing really low mileage believe it or not your engine wear may be the same as a higher mileage car if you are doing a lot of short journeys were the engine doesn't get up to temp. Also it would preserve your warranty on the engine. Your brake fluid wouldn't need changing infact most brake fluid doesn't need changing every 2 years. You can buy a brake fluid tester for £10 that checks the moisture in the fluid and tells you if it needs changing. Most dealers don't even bleed the fluid through the bleed nipples they just use a pump to suck it out of the top of the master cylinder. The guys who service cars in some dealerships aren't even mechanics they are technicians who just do the basic servicing. The other things on your car will just be visually checked. Infact a mot that costs £45 is a more robust check of your car as the brakes are tested on a rolling road, emissions on a machine, lights are tested using a device for alignment.
  2. I'm currently running a Jaguar XJ but was looking to move away from diesel and the only petrol that interested me was the hybrid is300h. I have my Xj serviced at a Jaguar independent and the services go a and b. A service is oil oil filter airfilter pollen filter and new wiper blades cost is £180 b service is all the above and a fuel filter and brake fluid change cost is £250. I nearly bought an infinity hybrid and the same thing (servicing costs) where nothing except oil and filter is changed put me off that. I genuinely think a lot of people just pay and don't understand that the majority of the servicing is just visual checks. The cost of airfilters and such is so low you would think they would change them every service that would at least make it slightly more palatable.
  3. I'm really interested in buying a 300h but what is putting me off is the price of servicing. I spoke with the service dept and was told the 1st service was around £250 and the second around £450. When I asked what actually gets done and what actually gets changed the service guy got a bit defensive. The only thing that gets actually changed on the first service is the oil and filter. The rest is just checks. I asked what gets changed on the second more expensive service and was told it was again just the oil and filter and they check extra things they don't check on the 1st service! I asked when the brake fluid and air filter gets changed and was told its dependendent on mileage and is extra. I know dealerships need to make money but these prices are very high for what is basically just a oil and filter change. The fixed price servicing for 5yr and older cars seems to have more things actually changed for less than half the price.
  4. I had a Q70 for a long weekend test drive (if you call them they go out their way to let you have one for a reasonable amount of time) It takes a bit of getting use to. I was travelling down the motorway when the engine switches off and it runs on battery for a couple of miles then engine cuts back in as battery depletes. Very nice inside with every toy as standard. Very fast 0-60 in 5.6. Has a real growl when you accelerate. It is a quality car and for the price of a nearly new one you can't go wrong. Call your nearest dealer and try one
  5. All tesla's do significantly more than 100 miles per charge the minimum is over 200 with the 85kw battery pack giving 325. He's building a new battery factory (the biggest in the world) to develop one with 500 mile range. Also when the new battery's are developed they can be swapped in 90seconds into all the model S's. It's done by machine you can watch it on you tube
  6. I've just had the Q70 hybrid for a 4 day test drive. Its incredibly refined very quick and seems well put together. Averages 44mpg on motorway and 28 around town. considering the gs450 is its nearest competitor its very good value. Infinti are struggling to get going in the uk so prices are very keen if you dont buy a new one. The prices drop like a stone on new. I was looking at one a year old. It would have have 2 yrs warranty plus you can extend the warranty. I seen on these posts you cant extend but infinti definitely have this in place now. I really fancy the is300h but this is making me reconsider. I am concerned around lack of dealers (though they pick up from anywhere in country at no extra charge) and theres always the risk they just pull out of uk if they cant make it work
  7. There's a Lexus dealer in Chester that has 3 of them! He must have cornered the market
  8. Hi All, I'm thinking of buying an is250c. It seems according to this forum that there are not too many known faults. The one that keeps coming up is sticking callipers. Does anyone know if this was resolved the year I'm looking at is a 2010? Also I do 18k a year so would be looking at 2 services a year Thanks
  9. Hi All, Thinking of getting IS300h just looking at the servicing costs and can't understand why they are so expensive when basically it's just an oil and filter change and a load checks according to the lexus website? It looks like the hybrid check is included but don't get why it's £345 for a major service that just consists of checks?
