  1. You can't change down a gear on a hybrid CVT it doesn't have anything other than forward and reverse
  2. If you've got something like software issues like the TPMS or something similar it would still be better having your regular serving done by an independent then if you had anything extra that couldn't be resolved that needed to be connected to their software system (though there are independent Lexus dealers that have this) then just use Lexus for that repair. Even if you had a service plan it wouldn't cover you for anything other than the service. You would have to pay extra for anything outside of this. it is though a stipulation that if you have the extended warranty you have to have it serviced at main dealer so include this cost in your total. if the warranty is £1000 plus the two services say a £260 and a £460 your talking £1720. 2 services at a independent using genuine oil and filter will be no more than £450 for both leaving you with over £1200 to use if you do need anything sorting. a full dealer history adds very little value to a used car v an independent. Certainly no more than you would have saved by not having it serviced at dealer. The hybrid battery is non service item
  3. I wouldn't bother with the service plan. You pay hundreds of pounds for a oil change and a load of visual checks. Find an independent and even if you buy genuine Lexus oil and filter you will be still be hundreds of pounds better off. Small service at Lexus is about £270 and is only a oil and filter change and visual checks. Second service is about £460 and is oil and filter and maybe break fluid change. Don't think any air or pollen filters actually get changed to year 4 when they will ask you for even more money. if you ask what actually gets done at a service you may change your mind on what you think is an exemplary service.
  4. There's not that much noticeable difference with the air suspension (test drive both on the same road and see for yourself) to warrant the extra complexity. As you will be aware the CVT gearbox 'step change' is gimmicky given the car has no separate gear ratios so don't let that cloud your decision
  5. In a recent head to head between Audi A6 Mercedes E class and GS300h the GS came bottom for amount of cabin noise. this reflected a test drive I had in a GS. I was really surprised as I expected it to be more cocooned from road noise. Also has a fair bit of wind noise on motorway. Ive cut and pasted the bit below Another noise level to report next: how much wind, road, engine and transmission noise fills the cabins on the same motorway surface, in the same weather conditions, at a steady 70mph cruise. You might expect a hybrid Lexus with a quiet petrol engine to rule over its diesel rivals here, but the GS300h’s ride turns out to be conductive and sensitive to an even slightly coarse surface. As recorded by our decibel meter, the GS300h is actually the noisiest car here, at 66.5dB. It’s beaten by the A6 2.0 TDI (65.5dB), the S90 D5 AWD (65.1dB) and the E220d (64.1dB). The Mercedes’ advantage seems to be mostly accounted for by better wind noise suppression than its opponents. Its engine raises its voice when worked but settles to a remote hum at cruising revs when driven through the tall ninth gear of its automatic gearbox.
  6. Wouldn't the cheapest option be to keep the ct? It's not really the deposit to change its the total amount you'll owe over the length of term that important. If your happy with your current car why not keep it especially if you've had it from new and know all its history.
  7. I test drove the GS300h but was really disappointed. Suspension was a bit crash round town but great on motorway. Bit too much wind noise also on motorway. Also agree that there's not a great deal of rear leg room. Maybe I was just expecting too much. had a 24hr test drive in a is300h and thought that was much better but still still a bit crash from the suspension. Only slightly smaller inside than gs300h but much cheaper second hand buy
  8. Hi All, What MPG can I expect around town in a GS300h? I've read some sites saying 35mpg? thanks
  9. Hi All, I'm picking up a GS300h tomorrow (thanks for the previous advice on this). Car is a 14 plate with 30k and I am contemplating taking out the further 2 yr warranty which is just over 1k. This would obviously give me 3 yrs in total. If I take the warranty apparently I have to have the car serviced at main dealer so I work that out to be with my mileage a £275 and £450 so £725 in total. £1725 including the cost of warranty. if I use a Lexus Indy the next two services will probably cost me £450 in total. The Indy uses filters/fluids from Lexus. I can take the extended warranty anytime apparently upto 10 yrs subject to Lexus checking car over first. So would I be best saving my money and taking after say 5 yrs old? Any views would be welcome Thanks
  10. Hi All, Anybody know now of an independent that does Lexus in the Liverpool/northwest area please?
  11. Hi All, does anybody know of an independent that does Lexus hybrids in the Liverpool/Northwest area please? thanks
  12. The GS that I test drove was very kindly brought to my home as I lived quite away from the dealer. The car showed the MPG since last fuelled. It was showing 61.5mpg. This was 95% motorway and around 50 miles since fuelling. On the test drive which was mixed roads it was high 40's still very good for petrol.
  13. It Had a couple of new tyres on the back that the dealer had done but I've never heard of the brand and they looked very cheap make. windows definitely closed I did check. Car was fitted with plastic wind deflectors around the window and it was more than likely these that caused the problem.
  14. Well test drove the Gs300h today and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Suspension was more bumpy than I was expecting and had some wind noise around when driving on motorway. Car was an SE so wasn't on big wheels or sports suspension. Agree with other comment car is massive but not much rear passenger room. Oh well will give the IS300h a run

  16. Thinking of IS300h and have been looking at 14 plates. I've noticed though that the price of the GS300H is coming in line with the prices of the IS300H? I'm going to test drive both but it seems like the Gs could be a better deal. Both are for sale at main dealer. Either Gs are struggling to sell or the IS300h is holding its value. On paper the GS looks a big step up from the IS

Given the choice would any of you guys have preferred the GS?
  18. Doesn't the 300h run on 0-20 which is obviously very thin to begin with hence why the manufacturer states change at 10k or 12mths
  19. Hi All, i went to look at a 14 reg gs300h today at main dealer. Advert said full service history. When I went through service history it had a service in 15 at 10k but next service was completed at 30k? This means car ran for 20k over 15mths ish with same oil. Dealer said they had done major service to bring it upto date. This still doesn't get away from the fact that the car was supposed to have the oil changed at 10k or 12mths. lexus dealer says it won't affect warranty but I'm concerned that there could be problems down the line. Am I being too cautious or am I right to be concerned. Car looks immaculate currently on 30500 miles. Any advice would be appreciated
  20. Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a used is300h from a main dealer. Question is do the dealers offer discounts for straight cash deal? i contacted one dealer who said they would knock off £200 against car they had on Autotrader for 21k. I understand it probably comes down to how well you negotiate but was interested in anyone else's experience thanks
  21. The price of lexus servicing is really high more than other main agents. Also if you actually look at what gets changed it's usually just the oil and filter. Things like air filter pollen filter fuel filter break fluid very rarely get changed or are not included in the price. Most of the service is visual checks and if they do find anything unless it's under warranty there is extra costs to fix it.
  22. Hi All, I've read on this forum that the ride quality is quite hard. I've also found posts that say post 2012 cars are better. Did the ride quality improve and if so what year/spec did this happen with? Thanks
  23. I think Lexus takes advantage of it's very loyal customers with their service schedules and making people think they are missing out on something if they only use the essential service schedule. If you didn't know much about cars you would think that something that needed doing was being over looked when in fact it's just visual checks. Also if your car is over 3 years old it would be subject to an MOT which is a very rigorous set of checks that are much more than just visual. All the other major manufactures offer fixed priced servicing (and stamp the book) after 3yrs not the 5 that Lexus insist on. I'm still getting one though!
  24. I'm going to do the same. I will buy one 18-24 mths old and have it serviced at an independent using OEM parts. As I will hopefully be keeping it for several years. When it reaches 5 years old I'll consider using the dealers fix priced servicing or keep it at the independents as I will have some experience of using them in that time. I'm not paying £450 for a oil and filter change and a bunch of visual checks
  25. I'm not overly concerned with the cost, more with the thoughts of "will they change the oil" because when I check mine at the moment, which I do regularly by the way, it is clean and will they think the same at service time and not bother (saving them a bit more cash) I won't be able to tell just by looking as it will look exactly as it does now. A few of our members have described some of the dealers as 'rip-off merchants' this in some way reinforces my thoughts, will they do what they're supposed to do!I particuarly want to get it serviced at the correct times for the reasons already stated. I don't do many what I would call short trips of 3 or 4 miles, Most of my trips generally fall into the 25mile to 60mile or more type of journey. Most of our short trips, to town and back, are usually in my wifes fiesta. There's no way they won't change the oil and the oil filter as the service schedule on these items are set at mileage or 12 mths whatever comes first. It will also be on your paperwork what they have done.
