    3. Do they update the software during services? My navigation display seems to be very laggy and has not been updated in 3 years.

I have never used them myself, but several forum members have had good service from these guys if I recall correctly:

    https://toyotamaps.online/map-updates

And yes, as dublet says, you seem to have to sit and wait a long time for it to update itself for some reason.

Lovely lady receptionist (I will try and find out her name) managed to get a new battery fitted immediately, so that we could get away. Excellent service! Only a couple of hiccups. The back hatch would not open. The receptionist knew the correct procedure to solve it!

Sounds like quite the skilled receptionist they have! 🙂

Also the premier and F Seport aew two Peice Discs

Quite right Robert, the disc is bolted to a separate bell mounting.

The reasoning, according to AP Racing is:

"Mounting Bells are usually made from high grade aluminium alloy although other materials can be used.
This arrangement is much lighter than a one piece disc and bell, but more importantly allows some compliance to reduce the risk of distortion due to heat expansion of the disc."

    Very true, Philip.

Sometimes the nature of the criticisms give a better insight into the character of the complainer than the location itself.  Especially if it’s one you know well.

And all restaurant comments should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Reviews do make things difficult sometimes - especially on places like amazon when you aren't sure if they are even real or not.

Since reviews tend to fall into only two categories - people that like a product enough to spend the time to write one and other opposite for those unhappy - it can be tricky to determine if the product is actually any good or not.

As someone who does like to take the time to research into things before buying them, it is not always the most useful exercise to read reviews.

But one my current hobby horses are car reviews by (generally) self-appointed motoring experts.  But that’s possibly a meander too far from the original post.

As this thread seems to have run its course on the original topic, feel free to meander away 🙂

  5. Perhaps I am misjudging, but this video sounds like clickbait.

No real discussion other than the quick mention and brief clips.  For example, the first 'flaw' that might affect a ES300h shows a burning RX at 1:07 in the video - a pointless inclusion.

Also, the last 'issue' is potential sludge on a 24 year old RX with who knows how many miles on it, which might be accounted for by irregular oil changes..🙄

Perhaps other owners can comment, but as this video is American related, has Lexus UK acknowledged anything that is mentioned in this video?

    Just my two-pence worth.....

Like others have said, I find the LOC a lot more friendly than other car forums that I have frequented in the past.

I don't tend to stray much past the NX forum on here but do occasionally dip into other posts that are related to motoring in general (or those related to non-motoring subjects). I can't say that I have encountered any real hostility or anger in any of them but maybe I haven't stumbled upon the posts that Shaphor and others are referring to.

I find the LOC to be a useful resource for information-sharing and a nice place to "hang out" when I'm enjoying my morning's cuppa. I tend to classify the people on here similar to the majority of Lexus drivers I encounter on the road, i.e. courteous; friendly and well-informed.

I suppose I should have added a little bit of context on my original post.  It is easy for me to forget, but when I say that things aren't good on this forum, I have to remember that it still isn't as bad as other forums I am on since it started much higher up in my estimation 🙂

If you go aftermarket you will need to ensure that you get the correct size discs for your F Sport. The reason being according to https://media.lexus.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2021/06/1517227373180125MGSTechnicalSpecifications.pdf the GS 450h Luxury is fitted with slightly smaller brake discs than those fitted to the F Sport and Premier cars (no idea why when they all have the same performance figures!).

The only commonality I can think of is that both F Sport and Premier models have the AVS suspension that the other models are lacking.

Not sure exactly how that correlates, but maybe Lexus think taking corners slightly quickly means quicker overall speeds hence bigger discs required.

  8. Yes, I myself have partaken of the diversion from the topic at hand, hence me saying it is unfair to the original poster.

Oh, and for the avoidance of doubt, a proposition may be true or false, an assertion is one you hold out to be true🙆

Are you trying to divert my thread using a diversion from another thread? 😄

Well clearly I haven’t been paying attention.  But as a relative latecomer myself, I’m probably not well placed to comment on perceived changes.

But if changes there have been, then those points are well made in Shahpor’s OP.  The surprise to me is that they needed to be made in the first place.

After all, the only thing we may all have in common is that we once owned, or currently own, or are thinking of owning…a Lexus.  To expect that rather tenuous link to be accompanied by a commonality of attitudes is ambitious in the extreme.  It’s not something that we might demand from, say, Honda Lawnmower owners!

As for picking out a specific poster, I find that rather sad.  If the criticism was based on racist or nationalistic slurs, as happens on other sites, then there would be cause for righteous anger.

    But arguments over a car….really?!

Occasionally debates meander into more general, motor-related areas. Or even non-motor related.  And this site does seem to be blessed with more than its fair share of well informed and articulate contributors.  But I’ve always thought that if you cannot muster the evidence to debate an opposing opinion rationally, then you should consider the possibility that it may be right!

As it happens, I tend to read the post first before checking as to its author.  Although style and tone of voice might be a bit of a giveaway!

But there have been many occasions in real life when I’ve learnt much by dealing with people with whom I disagree.   It’s the difference between having your opinions or prejudices confirmed, or having them challenged.

So personally I agree there’s no place for the ‘anger and tension’ of which Shahpor complains.

More witty banter is what the world needs!

    Well said Len 🙂

As for arguments over cars, it can be a surprisingly sensitive subject, especially on car forums since they tend to get the more 'enthusiastic' owners.

With regards to debate meandering, well, those are some of the best topics!  Perhaps a bit unfair to the original poster, but it is often surprising on what tangent a discussion will progress and what tidbits are shared.

Let’s not be too sensitive here. LOC is nothing like two BMW forums I used to frequent. Nothing like two Jaguar forums I also used to visit. And as for Pistonheads, I mean wow we are in kindergarten compared to that. I find LOC to be mostly perfect. I also like Linas despite my past disagreements with him. Then again I do like a lot of what he says although perhaps not always how he says it. It’s all just opinion though isn’t it and that’s just fine. I’ve always believed that rude and abusive behaviour should be met with a bit back the other way. Which is probably not right either because it stokes tensions. We need to be careful about trying to live in a world where we all have the same opinion and agree over everything. It’s just not possible.

    Well said Paul 👍

Given the amount of hybrids and electric cars, there should be a lot of positivity too. Enough to balance out the negativity and keep one grounded. Perhaps get in contact with members and conduct some sort of survey. Though you'll get sparks in any case along with some resistance, as shocking as it may be.

Had to read that one twice to get it properly 🙂
