  1. To get Bluetooth, does it need the multimedia option, which it doesn't have. Thanks to everyone who has contributed
  2. Hi gurus of the forum Any experience out there with bike roof racks for the IS250? How much do I need to budget?
  3. Hi I've seen all the MOTs on line and on paper. No advisories on any of them
  4. It has headlight washers so must be xenons. Thanks very helpful
  5. Hi gurus of the forum I'm looking at a late 2006 IS 250 with about 48,000 miles at a local independent. It has an OK service history, part Lexus and part independent. The interior still has Lexus mats, no signs of wear, and it has Michelin tyres. Not perfect that there you are. There is a sticker inside the drivers door that says SEL. The stereo is standard and no Navigation, but it has memory seats and the heated and cooled seats option . How can I tell if it has Xenon headlights? Can a Lexus garage give me the full specification with the registration?
  6. Hi all Useful tip I learned. A lot of single person MOT centres use shaker plates. Basically they put your front wheels on metal plates which vibrate like crazy, and this is supposed to be a quick way to detect wear in steering or front suspension components. Downside is they are not good for tracking settings and tend to throw up spurious errors. Think the answer is finding someone you can trust with your car As ever.
  7. Apologies if I didn't thanks contributors for the earlier information. So thanks. If you are new to the brand, the forums are really important to avoid buying the wrong car or being ripped off by bad traders (or indeed dealers) or mechanics. Its also great to have an active forum. Sadly at the moment all I can ask questions, I don't much information to contribute.
  8. Next question. If they are halogen, can they be upgraded to HID?
  9. Thanks everyone. I'm looking in the £6-£7k range. It's a second car for us and I only do 6k miles per year, so an older car is OK.
  10. I am on the hunt for a 56 or 57 plate IS250. How can I tell quickly whether the car has xenon, HID or halogen lights?
  11. I drive a 15 year old 5 series, so they look new to me!
  12. Good point. Maximum of £6k, so most dealer cars are out of my budget
  13. Hi all I should have done this ages ago. I am looking for an IS250 to buy. Car needs to be automatic with less than 70,000 miles. I'd like a service history that shows regular servicing and either Lexus or reputable independents. I don't have time for anything other than basic stuff, so no unfinished projects, thanks, and as standard as possible. preferably not black in colour. Would prefer leather interior. I could do either black or beige. Must have either parking radar or camera. Xenon headlights would be good. Mark Levinson stereo would made me very happy. I like my car to be tidy and properly maintained. Your car will not be used and abused (I know some people like to know this) I'm on the Essex/Suffolk border near Colchester and will travel. Drop me a note through the forum. Duncan
  14. By the way, the FSport I am looking at on the web appears to have black cloth and not leather. Does that make sense?
  15. Last question (promise) What's the best workshop manual for a generation 2 Petrol IS250? As I go around looking at used ones, it would be helpful to know some mechanical basics!
  16. OK gurus, My journey for my used IS 250 continues. I drove for an hour and a half to visit an independent dealer nearMaidenhead on Saturday, got there and they 'couldn't find' the car which is beyond annoying. Particularly since I called before I left home. Anyway have seen a FSport in my price range. Aside from the cosmetics, does the larger wheel size and sports suspension have any practical value?
  17. Idiot questions.. Are we talking here about a heating element in the windscreen? Was this standard on an SE? How is it activated?
  18. I agree..about £6k is right.Interestingly, the details on the Lexus Woodford ad are wrong in a few ways. It says sunroof, which it does not have, it says cloth and it is leather, and it says it has a display screen, which it does not, and the annual tax amount in wrong. And this is a Lexus dealer! I test drove a more expensive one and it had four of the cheapest tyres I have ever seen on it, and they were brand new. So the advice here is right, you need to look carefully at every car!
  19. Lexus Woodford. List price is £7,100...I'm having a haggle GY57 PVX
  20. OK gurus, does this seem like an good buy. Is250 2.5 SE Dec 2007 Argentina Silver.mblack leather Aluminium trim inside Automatic Lexus service history 2 owners, one Lexus and one private 66500 miles £6700 12 month Lexus used car warranty Sadly it is in the higher tax band (£490) and there is no parking radar. The tyres and good quality but the edges are worn.. Does that mean hard driving? To me it sees about £600 too much
  21. Thanks. The cars I have seen at independents so far have been, to put it mildly, rough. I think johnatg's point is a key one..a Lexus warranty may be more of a problem if you prefer independent servicing, which I do. Final question. Why do some have an annual road tax of £290 while others are close to £500?
  22. Hi gurus I'm looking to buy a used IS250 for a modest amount and there are some candidates at Lexus dealers. I don't want to pay a premium for a dealer car if it doesn't make sense. Is the Lexus used warranty good value? Any thoughts? Lexus Woodford, any experiences? Thanks
  23. Thinking of swapping my old (51 plate) BMW 525i for a 58 plate IS250, preferebly SE-L. can anyone tell me how the driving experience will compare?
  24. Can anyone recommend a reliable specialist in the Essex Suffolk borders area, around Colchester and Sudbury? Thanks
