  1. I find that in engine feels slightly sharper on premium fuel and there is a bit more power, it seems more willing to kick down. So following the advice I read here, I fill with premium every fourth tank (and then drive away smiling)
  2. Very embarrassing... I was so busy looking in menus I missed the button, right in front of me!
  3. Somehow I have managed to switch the TP setting on, and the traffic reports are driving me nuts as it mutes everything. Have looked at the manual and it switching them off and on seems to be related to the FM mode? Can anyone help? As I drive around M11/M25, it sends me over the edge!
  4. I have the same thing when close to full lock, tyres are Michelin Cup Sports. Seems to happen if there is any gravel under the front tyres.
  5. Interesting... my driver's side door sounds like It is creaking in its frame, rubber door seals getting hard in the cold could be the problem. Where do you buy this stuff?
  6. I'm lucky enough to have a brick double garage for my IS250. Should I try and let the car dry as much as possible before putting it in the garage after a wet drive? What experience do people have? I was also thinking about getting an electric fan on a timer to circulate the air, if I park within there when it is wet. Thoughts?
  7. I'm very pleased that my 56 plate IS250 passed its MOT at Lexus Ipswich with no advisories! I had HID fitted to my old BMW 525i (the standard low beam headlights were really feeble) and it then passed 3 MOTs.
  8. I decided to stick with Michelin Primacy 3. As the fronts have a fair amount of wear left I needed to match front to rear. Or what was in my mind, if you have to hit the brakes on the M11 at 630am in the dark and rain because a Transit van driver has just done some kind of homicidal lane change, you want the best chance of driving away in one piece.
  9. So just checked, mine has 225 45 R17 on the front and 245 45 R17 on the rear. Just makes life slightly more complicated, along with what brand to replace them with. My local Lexus garage says Continental or Michelin, others say Dunlop or Nexen ...I might get Pirelli as they seem priced competitively and I fancy a change
  10. Can anyone explain why Lexus specify different tyre sizes for front and rear? And where are the specifications, in the manual? Thanks everyone
  11. All good questions. It's a 2006 250 SEL automatic on 45,000 mi!es. I just had an Lexus service and safety inspection and they said nothing about the exhaust. The noise isn't engine noise, from memory it is just under 3,000 rpm at 70, and the noise changes with the road surface so I guess mostly tyre noise. I have read on the forum that the driver and passenger doors can sag and more noise comes in, but I have no idea whether this can be fixed? Or whether door seals fail and can be replaced? If it is tyees, the problem is that Lexus can't tell me what tyres to fit, they tend to say 'whatever is in stock'' From what I read, tyres have dB noise ratings but these are taken from outside the car, are somewhat arbitrary, and hard to understand -how much difference does 3db make in reality? I believe Lexus fitted Dunlop Sport Mass as standard, are European brands like Michelin or Continental harder compounds?
  12. I have owned my IS250 for about five months now, and I use it almost totally for motorway driving. For such a quiet car, it seems unusually noisy at and over 70mph. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have Michelin Primacy tyres which are due for replacement soon, wondering if these are part of the problem? Thanks everyone
  13. Mine is too ancients to have DAB, but I agree with the comment above that the quality of DAB stations is very poor.. to save money and bandwidth the sound is heavily compressed, the only exception I hear is BBC3. I'm not the expert by DAB exists for the convenience of the Government, so they can sell more frequency bandwidth in a commercial basis, while pushing massive cost onto consumers to buy new equipment.
  14. Dumb question -what's a hybrid blade? I've tried googling and didn't get any clear information.
  15. I've signed up for it as well. Maybe we should ask Lexus for an owner's club discount!
  16. Here's an obscure one. The rear passenger side grab handle assembly is making an annoying vibrating noise on coarse road surfaces. Anyone else had this? Any fixes
  17. This is excellent news. I'm almost looking forward to my next service visit! My last service inspection have two advisories... a small leak from a water pump gasket and a tiny leak in the air conditioning condenser. The damage to the condenser was almost certainly a stone so unlikely they would agree to that, the water pump they might.
  18. Hi all Thanks for the feedback. My main problem is that I don't have a specialist independent anywhere near, not even a Toyota place. I've looked in detail at the Extended Warranty offer. Key points: It's a Lexus warranty but the administration is done by a company called TWG who process actual claims. The warranty only covers parts that fail through normal use not wear and tear, so that rules out most interior and exterior parts, tyres, wiper blades, brake pads, windscreen and glass, etc. Obviously doesn't cover normal servicing. It's actually the warranty company that has final say on a claim. Not Lexus, so the dealer has to persuade them that a part needs replacing Maximum single claim is £2,000. You can't use the car for private hire or similar, or be outside the UK for more than 60 days. You must have an annual service (although the Terms and Conditions don't say that must be Lexus) The upsides are: If you never claim and cancel early you can get a refund on premiums, although this is buried in the fine print. Mileage is unlimited There is a reasonable list of parts they will replace if you fail an MOT like shock absorbers, but again not if they have failed due to wear and tear. MOT costs are covered. Exhaust is covered but not for rust. The warranty is the two years, you pay £74 month for the first 12 months, the second 12 months is free. It can be transferred to a new owner. I'm a bit ambiguous but I am going to try it for six months to see if the dealer can get claims paid. All I need is something like a water pump to go and that pays for six months. I will let you all know.
  19. I just bought Denso from Euro Car Parts. My car currently has an old set of Michelins, will let you all know! I've always been a Bosch buyer in the past.
  20. This has been an interesting series of posts. My final comment would be that I would ask the Finance company to confirm in writing that they have removed their rights over the car on Experian. If it's a small finance company it is almost certainly manual. Hope it's a cool car.
  21. I think I get this now. If the guy has a car on dealer finance, and the loan is still being paid, the normal way to get out is to go back to the dealer. They will offer less than the value of the car because they think they have him on the back foot. So him selling privately then paying out the finance company means he will save money. Remember also that a payout figure from the lender includes a penalty which covers them for the interest they will not get because it is paid out early. So make sure it is a real payout figure and not a dealer estimate of the payout figure.
  22. I'm just chasing some detail on what the service plan covers. They usually cover labour and major parts that may wear, like the water pump, but not consumables like discs, pads, coolant, tyres, wiper blades, and interior parts. Kwik Fit is a national tyre place that does MOT and general repairs on all cars. Opinions vary wildly on how good they are!
  23. I agree that it's deeply odd that a manufacturer that positions itself on quality has such a common and obvious problem. Their biggest market is the US where salt on roads is also common. What I learned is that if buying used, get the wheels done as part of the deal. The trader doesn't pay VAT so there is a deal to be done...
