  1. You don't mention your mileage but your possible purchase sounds a good buy. I bought an 07 plate 450h SE-Llast August having previously had a '98 GS300 for 10 years. Mine had done 104k miles and was £8.5k with 12 months Lexus warranty. It is an even better comfy cruiser than the GS300, although as you comment the boot is very small. However, unlike the earlier car, the boot hinges do not intrude into the space so you can use it all. I'm still getting used to the silence at traffic lights - the A/C is is the only noise. The engine is very responsive, the power is awesome and the hike in mpg is very welcome. I am even less aware of the CVT than I was of the auto box on the old car i.e. not at all. I have not discovered all the gadgets yet. I have had some queries and these forums have usually come up with the answers. I don't know if there is a solution to you iPod query but if there is somebody here will post it. Good luck. John
  2. Alas very limited testing with OBD Auto Doctor pro version. Help for adaptor suggests that connection can be made with ign off or with acc on. I never managed this. I could only get a connection with ign on. My wife declined to drive so she fiddled with app whilst I drove. We managed to establish that the battery voltage was 14.7, the OBD reported speed was 5mph lower than speedo at 70 and 65, and rpm at 70 mph (speedo mph and on cruise) was about 1700. She did measure the noise level in the car at 70 mph on cruise with iPad sitting on central rest and using the Decibel 10th app by SkyPa. It was about 70dB on the good surfaces of the A34 between Winchester and Oxford. More OBD app testing still needed. John
  3. Neil, Thank you. I like the last picture. Makes it feel like a flight deck. I asked on Amazon too and the replies besides Dash Command were: OBD Auto Doctor OBD Car Doctor eobd facile OBD Fusion Will try one and report. John
  4. It would bug me too! But try this: take a CD that displays info in your Peugeot and try it in the Lexus. Does it then display? John
  5. I was given a Stoga ELM327 WiFi OBD2 scanner gadget. I am now wondering what iPad software I should get to go with it? There are some free apps and one I have tried confirms that the scanner is working. But there seems to be no shortage of apps and a wide range of prices. What do members recommend? Thanks John
  6. How do I tell if my car is fitted with this? The handbook shows a fuse box in the boot which would be present if it had, but whereabouts in the boot? John
  7. Having moved to a car with a screen I was disappointed the track info does not appear when playing any of my CDs. It just says "track 4" or whatever. I am told that track info is a later specification and is not supported on all CDs. I don't seem to have any which display info so all mine must be before the specification was upgraded. I have not tried any MP3 disks yet. I will try some radio music tomorrow and see if I can get any info but I suspect that this will only apply to digital broadcasts and my car does not have DAB. John
  8. I have yet to observe my lights moving. Is it just main beams or dipped as well? Or even fog lights? Is the turning speed dependent? Didn't notice anything in the fog last w/e but then I did not have main beams on. The dipped beams are so flat that I wonder if turning them would make any difference. Puzzled. John
  9. Glad to have been of help. Talked to friend this morning. He routinely buys button cells from Amazon and has not had a bad one. Big turnover we guess He also keeps his spare ones in the fridge. John
  10. I don't know about your car but I've had some experience with batteries. Button cells have often expired before the customer gets them. Especially if the shop's turnover is small. So they could both have been dead before they were fitted. Can you get a voltmeter to check a "new" cell to see it is OK before fitting it? The shop I would got to for button cells certainly has a meter and would check them if I asked. I assume you put them in the correct way round. Putting them in the wrong way round would certainly result in no response. John
  11. David, 35mpg seems excellent to me. I didn't do long runs very often with my '98 GS and I didn't check its consumption. It was comfortable and quiet though so you got out not exhausted. Is your '98 GS300 red with 120k+ miles by any chance? John
  12. Try clearing any assignment first. This worked for me even though I didn't have any assignments. Also do the assigning with the door shut. The quick user guide does not say this but the full manual and these forums do. John
  13. Try clearing any assignment first. I could not get assigning to work until I cleared. Also have the for shut - the quick guide does'n say this but the full manual does. John
  14. When the Vaseline tip was suggested to me 25 odd years ago I was a dubious as you Bren. Vaseline is an insulator. Then again so are metal oxides and we don't bother about them when clamping metal bits together. I checked this morning with the car electrical business that told me about the vaseline and it is still recommended practice. Smear the battery posts and then when clamps are on smear round the outside of the clamps. Clean the battery posts first with fine wire wool and then smear with vaseline and fit the clamps. Us oldies may also remember little read and black felt washers that were put round the battery posts before the clamp. They were impregnated with something to prevent corrosion. These are no longer fitted possibly because they get lost rather than being ineffective and anyway the Vaseline does all that is needed. John
  15. Smearing the battery post with Vaseline before fitting the clamp will help keep it from corroding. Weird I know but that is what car electrical places did last century. John
  16. Reading these forums I have discovered that about 2008 or 9 the GS450h (and probably all the other GS models as well) changed a little. Later ones are referred to as the "facelift" model. I can see that the turn indicator repeater lights on the front wing moved into the wing mirror. The CO2 emissions seem to have been lowered into the next lower VED band. How was this achieved? What other changes were there? John
  17. I don't know if etiquette forbids answering my own question but I have solved the problem. I tried "canceling the linked door unlock operation". There didn't seem any logic to this as the problem was it wouldn't link. What was there to unlink? However when I tried linking again (with the door shut) it had worked! Now each key is linked. This is such a convenience if your two driving positions are different. My wife and I got used to the convenience of memory seats with our old '98 GS and they were fairly near the top of our requirements list for a replacement car. That fact a position can be linked to a key is an added bonus. Now if only Lexus could come up with an electrically adjusted rear-view mirror. Has any car maker managed this yet? John
  18. 2007 GS450h. My wife and I have very different driving seat positions and the memory seats are very useful. Now our second key has come I thought I would link her driving position to her key and my position to my key. I followed the instructions in the Quick Guide but cannot get it to work. With seat left in her position opening the car with my key does not result in seat moving to my position and vice versa. I searched on the forums and found one suggestion that I should be in car with door shut when I did the linking (instead of on pavement with door open). This mention of the door being shut is in the full Owners Manual but not in the Quick Guide. Alas this did not work either. Any suggestion please? John
  19. I noticed yesterday that two sellers of discs for West Europe had appeared on eBay. One from Dresden had just the West Europe discs available. The other seller from Dublin had lots. From his other items it would seem that he is buying sets of four discs and selling them separately for total cost of about £253. Why don't Lexus split their four pack and make every buyer happy and eliminate the sellers of counterfeit discs? Which of us here would not pay slightly more for a genuine disc? Any readers here from East, Central and North Europe want to share a pack with me? John
  20. You should leave them a review: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.satnavdvd.co.uk Excellent idea. I will do so.
  21. I have just sent a suggestion to Lexus to split the 4 DVD set into individual discs and sell them for quarter the price. I will update this thread when I get a response. John
  22. GS450h? Will do more mpg than IS200 (souped up or I suspect not) and is more comforatble too. Don't know about the handling John
  23. Mad Harris, The first link in the previous reply is from a company which I think may be another trading face of http://www.satnavdvd.co.uk. I had a lot of bother with this site. After returning a disc which did not work in my GS450h they refused to honour their no-questions asked guarantee and give me a refund. I opened a dispute with PayPal but because the address they gave PayPal for returns was not the one they gave me, PayPal could not confirm the return despite my signed for tracking information! PayPal therefore closed the dispute and suggested I try and resolve matters with the seller! PayPal have made an ex-gratia payment this morning but it was a lot of hassle and I still have a 2006 disc. The second linked site has interesting terms and conditions. They are a backup service. If you use them you confirm that you own the original. If only Lexus would split their map sets into four and charge a quarter the price each, these sites would lose business (and I would have an up-to-date disc). John
  24. Yes but it didn't work for me. I'm glad it did for you. The wisdom on this forum is that the GS450h is rather fussy or at least the 2007 version is. And I haven't got my money back yet. John
