  1. But what have the romans ever done for us??
  2. Same experiences with me. Parents, grandparents, neighbours never ever spoke about the war. Grown up in Holland the German occupation was still "alive"in my childhood but questions were never answered other than "that was a long time ago. It was this deafening silence that did make me realise something really bad big and horrible happened and it was only when i found a bag with foodcoupons and german written forms my father opened up a bit telling me he was in a german labourcamp for 3 years in Bremerhafen building U boat shelters. Conversation abruptly stopped when mother came in she threw the bag away instantly. Later when we went on holiday to spain the first question he asked meeting British of the same generation was Hi, were have you been? I never understood until later in life how these people understood the question and started a conversation about the war and it was like they already knew each other having a beer and patting each other on the shoulder ( he sent me to mum first). Although i was born after it definately influenced me like they say it works through the generations. My children? no luckily not, for them Hitler is Napoleon, too long ago. Good but bad in thesame time as now with Israel look what happens in Europe, are we about to make thesame mistake again? So many years later here we are complaining about a crappy Lexus satnav.. Talking about putting things in perspective hey!
  3. Best to stay in open a nice bottle of rioja and look at a revenge movie like the equalizer. Let the idiots do idiots things, not for me please
  4. and rightfully so as no doubt the agressive hotheads giving you trouble will carry one. Some countries do allow it but i am not sure if its is really working for them.
  5. All very civilized and the right thing to do but what your inner devil tells you is to pull out the bazooka and blow their car to smithereens! ( oh well, metaphorically speaking that is..)
  6. Stephen, there is this special category of people you do not want to meet. Inner city folk know who i mean. from coke filled hot hatch juveniles to real underwold criminals. I can remember one occasion i was cut off driving in city centre by a black mercedes s class with 4 bearded gentlemen inside that looked they were not going to attend the annual stamp convention. My wife sitting next to me wanted to hit the horn and tell them off. I made it clear that was propably not a good idea. Stay under the radar and go with the flow is my motto.
  7. No brainer, go fo the model 3. By far the most economical of all, no maintenance, plenty of room inside for 4 adults and the absolute fastest out there. If you have solar panels on your house visiting a petrolstation is a thing of the past. Also super reliable and practically unstealable. No comparison with the rest. Test it and you will find out
  8. They seem to offer it as an accessory now something that is not really needed but you can use it to achieve enhanced protection. Something like a plastic wrap around your suitcase at airports, or ceramic coating to protect your paint. A recall is normally only done if there is a safety concern and it looks like Lexus does not really know how to handle the situation. It is not a UK problem only but its spread worldwide in both Toyota and Lexus vehicles so Toyota Legal will have a major say in this as well and they could be afraid that if they recall all cars it will be seen as an admission. This will open the door to numerous claims from insurance companies and private individuals alike. I really feel they want to keep this under the radar as long as possible but you what happens with a smoldering fire don't you? So far for putting customer first and the relentless pursuit of perfection, all seems a long time ago. This will bite them hard if they don't fix it.
  9. Surely this honour should go to the infamous Alfasud from Alfa Romeo, that rusted already in the brochure!
  10. If its a Trump motorcade it will run on the best propulsion the world has ever seen unbelievably good, the best!
  11. The entire middle east situation is so complicated that it will be extremely difficult, if at all possible, to find a solution. What is fact for one is an opinion for the other. Place 4 people around the table and you will have 4 opinions. As always it are the poor that will suffer. Better to return to the original topic and give it a little twist? What is China doing to the international Car Market? Will they cause massive bankrupcys? will European and American manufacturers close production in Europe and the States and move to China for production?
  12. The issue seems to be Hamas that wants the end of the state of Israel and wants to create an islamic state from the river jordan to the sea and is even prepared to offer the Palestinian population in trying the reach that goal. How can you accept a 2 state when that state wants to destroy your country? Again Hamas is the real issue why they keep their borders tight shut. The fear is that with a wave of refugees Hamas will come along and continue their activities from Egyptian or Jordan lands firing rocket attacks etc. This will then enable Israel to retaliate and fire back possibly endangering the fragile peace between Israel and Egypt/Jordan.
  13. The muslim brothers dont seem to get along too well. Saudi borderguards simply shoot every refugee they see. Try getting into qatar, oman, uae, egypt, jordan etc forget it they dont want you. Well can always try the west as there seem to be more sympathizers there than people in Gaza
  14. Late to the party only saw the thread now. Interesting topic and some polarising opinions to keep it going. the other muslim countries do not take refugiees because muslims dont care about other muslims.Thats a complete misunderstanding. Jordan and egypt keep the borders closed Egypt building a fence and the pm of Jordon publicly stated there will not be one palestinian allowed. They dont want to import Hamas as they know what will happen. iran will not escalate the situation as it will cost them deerly. More interesting will be the role of Saudi and Qatar. They could play a role after the current war in rebuilding palestine one way or the other. China always is patient. They tend to fight with money instead of bullets and take the long view. Shipping prices will come down one day and if they take a side now they will immediately create enemies. Not China style. They wait and try to get the most out if the situation. They have taken over the Russian car market and are now the number one importer of russian oil. Their influence in russia has increased enormously. Its all about the economy as someone once said?
  15. and a bearlock blocking the transmission? http://bear-lock.co.uk/
  16. Today Lexus Netherlands decreased the official salesprice of the NX by up to 12000 euro and the RZ electric by 7000 euro. A massive move clearly done to generate sales. Wonder how many happy owners there are that just paid the old price... Will the UK follow?
  17. Lexus LBX Morizo RR. Yaris GR engine with 300hp. Just introduced at the Tokio auto show.
  18. I really think there is a market for the LBX and it will sell, for Lexus standards that is. Proven drivetrain, conservative in architecture and especially inside, Lexus premium. If you want a small car, premium brand, reliability, looks ,where can you go? Audi kills the Q2, Mercedes the A class, Bmw 1 series and Mini are more for the younger generation. Lexus is aiming the car at younger buyers but i see a different demographic. Affluent pensioners and 2nd or 3rd car in the household. The initial reviews have been positive and the car seems a big step above the Toyota. I havent seen or driven it yet but it seems much more developed than the RZ electric for instance.
  19. How things have changed over time. The original LS400 was starting to sell in the states with 8000 units sold when two (2 )owners complained about the cruise control. They recalled all 8000 cars, called the owners when it would be convenient washed the car and filled to the max with petrol. Owners living over 100 mls away from a dealer were visited by an engineer to perform the recall. Compare that to todays reaction... Seems todays management is full of bean counters looking at spreadsheets instead of customers.
  20. True story, many years ago we had just done the bathroom i gave my wife a brandnew digital scale for her birthday. All hypermodern in the color of the bathroom and not only measuring weight but also fat percentage and i dont know what. Well that didnt go down well.... Its more than 20 years ago and i still am told off every now and then, all neighbors and friends know so lesson learned i guess..
  21. Just go and take it on the fly. In case you have a puncture use the kit and drive to the nearest village. France Spain garages in literally every place, they will get you going again. I once had a puncture in France no spare no nothing so they came to the rescue with a flatbed and guess what? they took me to the nearest village where it could be repaired the next day. Did spend the night in rural France in an Allo Allo village the hotel owner telling me to lock up here is the key as i am not there. Local pub i still remember everybody silent when i came in but a wonderful night it was. Just go and dont try to secure all and everything?
  22. Try the public chargers. You propably wont have to full charge for the trip you do so just connect and wait 20 mins see how far you get. Also have a look where they are on the app you have. Might be wise to get several as well.
  23. 100 miles range in winter is about thesame as the BMW I3 did when it was launched a decade ago. Paul were you aware of this before you bought it and did it bother you or not?
