  1. Situation of the EV market differs per country but what makes the UK situation special is RHD. If we compare UK to the Netherlands the situation is not that different. Maybe the charging infrastructure is better in Holland and as a result there are more EVs around also being a much smaller country. Similar is that in both countries the EV market is fully driven by company car drivers and lease companies. Get a new car and get rid of it after 3/4/5 years. These cars then enter the second hand market and that's where the problem starts. The rapid battery development makes a 4 yr old car an " old car " as newer better versions are available sometimes even cheaper. Then fiscal stimulation will disappear making ownership more expensive plus the doubt of the general public about longevity of batteries. Result? a second hand car market coming to a standstill. I spoke to a VW dealer telling me new EV sell ok but second hand stay there for 12 months until they have to move them off the balance sheet. In the Netherlands these cars are then exported to other countries with an interest of cheap motoring. BUT, where do you export to in the UK?? These cars are stuck and will continue to fall in value until someone bites. Just wait and see you can take one home in 12 months after bringing coffee for the staff!
  2. Come to think of it its quite tempting. Once a week i drive off to clean the car and i call it an hour for myself. Nobody giving me orders or complaining about whatever..... I might give it a try!
  3. Sitting in the car for 50mins with the engine idling whilst reading a book? Maybe time to call a helpline?
  4. With all respect but the LS beeing the first Lexus and the current RZ cannot be compared other than having thesame badge. The original LS had to establish the brand in the states and Toyota used 60 designers, 1400 engineers in 24 teams, 2300 technicians and over 200 support staff to develop the original LS400. All at an estimated cost of 1 Billion USD. How many LS400 were built? Well 165.000. Do the maths. It is likely to be one of the most over engineered cars of all time. No surprise this is not sustainable so Lexus cars in my opinion over the years have become more and more Toyota with lipstick just as Audi to VW. The RZ will not sell much and is not meant to do so. It more seems to be an in between car as Toyota completely missed the BEV market and just needed to bring something out fast until they will be able to offer full BEV in some years time. They have just started development of the first ground up electric platform.. The perception of Lexus seems to change with the general public. They seem to continue bringing out cars that are not competitive enough in todays market. RZ with polarized styling and mediocre tech. All fine but not for the pricepoint. Same issue with the new LBX. Too expensive for the product and no BEV available. It is just not going to work.
  5. And pay for the shiny dealer palace you are instructed to have by your only supplier that also attacks you from behind as they want to go direct to your customers over the internet. And to witness the transition to no maintenance electric vehicles, no services needed, no engine, gearbox oils or cooling fluids to sell. Before you know it you are a mere service center trying to survive on an annual kickback from your only supplier that will keep you alive as long as needed. What will be the role of a dealer in 10 years time??
  6. Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior Bertone Coupe. Emotional, not too fast, temperamental and breaks down every now and then.
  7. took me some time to figure this one out Renato but hey also the grey cells are slower arent they. beeing of a certain age is like a good classic car i guess. Top speed a bit lower, the windows leak a bit and the steering gets a bit rusty but it still drives!
  8. Well Magnus you sure make it difficult. I googled the licence plate and the result was "organ malfunction". Could tell a thing or two as it seems like a bit from everything. 3 Litre V6 Ford engine RWD and a polyester bodykit? Miata based? Or some anodyne US convertible? Something tells me it was not very successfull.
  9. I am not. Still an athlete with a perfect body nothing wrong with it. (Just pulled a muscle in my back while stringing my shoe laces, could not walk for a week!!)
  10. Well, highest ever that is known on youtube that is. How about all the French cars in Africa. After a tough life in France without too much maintenance ( Only visit the garage if something breaks) they start a second life in the African countries and just keep soldering on. Also the mercs 200 they simply refuse to die. Would not be surprised if the peugeots 504, 204 etc form the seventies and eighties are all member of the million mile club!
  11. Another brilliant video from Savageese. Its about the Ford Mustang E but could as well be about the Lexus RZ. In my view it clearly shows the problems the traditional car manufacturers have compared to the new brands that do EV only. Well worth a look.
  12. What is an acceptable mileage if you bring your car in for a service? Testdrive after repair?
  13. Hang on... just found out the price of 1 litre of petrol in Saudi, guess what? 0.57 euro/litre!
  14. Try Saudi Arabia Malc, could be the country of your dreams!
  15. Not really, you are a cost that will be thrown overboard the moment it is possible.
  16. Thats why i moved to the countryside many years ago. Peace and quiet. Lived in city centre in my early days had my private wino sleeping in the street in front of my house. Drug dealers everywhere. I decided to leave.
  17. Charge at home and every morning you are good to go. One day ALL petrolstations will have chargingfacilities where you charge some 20% enough to bring you home again. Currently it depends what you use your car for. Drive 300 mls a month around where you live means 1 charge every 3 weeks. Drive around the country and do 1000 mls get a diesel.
  18. Metoo. i was sent home for not wearing a tie, The Nerve!! By the way yes we have seen all the new technologies as stated in this thread but what about my grandparents. Born in 1890, seen the first plane, car, telephone. Lived through two ( 2 ) worldwars and died in the eighties. Born in 1961 i think what makes my generation special is that we never experienced a war. Sounds stupid but you only have to look into history to see that is really special.
  19. I started checking my PSA values annually after reading Stephen Fry 's reports some years ago and unfortunately i also got the call"we better do some more testing now". Went into hospital several times and had external and internal scans ( through the backdoor) and up to now the diagnosis is only an enlarged prostate always followed by the question, "do you want medicine"? I read about the side effects and that really scared me off so up to now i pushed it away. Time will come however beeing 62. But here is my question. Friend of mine living in Switzerland had his prostate reduced by Cryotherapy ( freezing). He told me all easy peasy no problem and all resolved now. Overhere in Holland they dont do that, propably too expensive? Anyone with more knowledge about that?
  20. Just a feeling but something here does not add up. Who is the dealer? Is the car new or secondhand and within warranty? Short recap. The dealer delivers a Lexus on your driveway and disappears. You then find out the car does not work and there is black grease all over the white interior. You do not contact the dealer but your neigbour with thesame car starts jumpstarting it?? Next day you drive to a forest, the radio does not work, the satnav has glitches and in the middle of nowhere you cannot close the roof and windows so you walk away. Then 3 more breakdowns, a burning smell in the car and a loose feeling in the steering. I stop here as it all sounds too bizarre to be true. Did you by any chance find any trolls in the forest?
  21. Friend of mine from Spain owns a 30 yr old Nissan Patrol that he keeps in his second home in the mountains. Car runs some 5k km pa not more and he owned it from new. He will never sell it because it is HIS Nissan Patrol. Car needs mot of course and some years ago the rust was so through the chassis the garage advised him to sell it as repair was more expensive than a new car. He had it repaired as it is HIS Nissan Patrol. Morale of the story is that most cars you forget the moment they are gone and some just creep under your skin. Nothing to do with money or exclusivity but all to do with emotion, a feeling a car can give you. From all the cars i owned over the years 3 stood out, my first car a bloodred alfa bertone gt junior coupe. At 20 years old my dreamcar. And an Opel Omega Station 6 cylinder diesel that was the family car when the children were young, big enough to haul friends, bikes and whatever around for years. Last one the IS250 immaculate buildquality and gives you a special feeling driving it. I understand the Saab owning uncle.
  22. The devil could be in the detail here. Who is the owner of this car? Is he "well known " with the police? Could it be that the car was torched as a warning?
