  1. Yes all of the wires and cables are connected to the mast. :-(
  2. Hi all. My new LS400 has no working radio. When I bought the car the aerial didn't operate so I put it down to this. Upon investigation this afternoon it seems the aerial was disconnected for some reason as once I plugged the connecter back in and switched on the stereo it popped out smoothly and fully. However I now only get static on all frequency's. It's finding nothing. Any ideas on the issue or possible fix? Thanks again everyone for your help! Matt :-)
  3. Thanks for all the input everyone. I don't want to mess anything up as it's working great at the moment. I'll probably go for the gradual change but I don't like the idea of leaving old fuild in there.
  4. Thanks! Got a chips away guy coming on Sunday to quote for the stone chips etc so we'll see what he says. It's so close to being perfect on the bodywork It seems wrong not to sort the little flaws.
  5. Hi all, getting used to my new ls400 after a few days now. I've been drawing up a list of things that need doing. Needs an oil service at least, possibly plugs and filters etc. Although the transmission operate's perfectly, the oil is looking past its best so want to do a full flush ( pipe off radiator method) Paint chips and small amount of bubbling paint on the top of the door needs addressing. What's best? Alloys desperately need restoring! Squealing brake when pulling up at lights or in light braking. Annoying but not the end of the world! Known fix? The electric aerial doesn't operate and so I have no radio. Ithe makes no sound when the radio is turned on. Checked obvious fuses. Any suggestions? Oh and the obligitory wet boot... All help and advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated!
  6. It's not perfect but I intend to get it as close as I can. There are a few decent stone chips which I want to get sorted and also a small bubbling on the top of the drivers door. Other than that it's great! Just drove up to Blackburn on the motorway no bother. :-)
  7. Hahaha brilliant :-) it's hard not to notice an LS400. I've only ever seen one in passing other than going to view them.
  8. Yes we were on our way to pick up the boy from nursery! My wife was driving. You must not have been in yours as I'm sure I would have spotted that!
  9. Took some pics this morning. Still only been washed not polished or anything yet. Gave the leather a good clean.
  10. So I went to leeds yesterday and collected the car, drove it home to Stoke without incident. It's absolutely fantastic! Full service hiatory and 12 months mot. Needed a good clean but now looks great! No body or paint damage to speak of bar a couple of minor scratches and touched up stone chips on the front. The leather could do with some work as it has wear in places. Nothing major though. Any recommendations for leather repair/repainting? The wheels need a refurb but I'll have a go at that myself in the summer. Also is there any way to update the sat navigation system? I know you can't get new cd's but can you retrofit a later system (430 dvd?) or Tom Tom unit to the in built screen as it's brain is in the boot isn't it? Overall I'm smitten with my new car. Even my wife managed to say it's very nice and comfortable, which is high praise indeed! I'll try and get some pics up in the next day or two. Thanks to everyone who has helped me.with questions up to this point. I'm. Sure I'll have more :-) Matt
  11. Yes I agree completely. Even just test driving a few made it hard to drive anything else and be happy! I think these really are amazing value for money. I'd rather pay to run and maintain the LS than pay £££ in depreciation on a new car. I'll post some pics up once I have her. The only thing I know is wrong is the aerial doesn't work and so no radio at present. Cd works though.
  12. Hello all. Well, I finally did it. I bought a gold mk4 off ebay yesterday and will be collecting it on Friday. I'm very excited! It's not perfect but I'm planning on keeping it for a good while so I'll sort out any issues and get it serviced once I have it. Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far with questions and advice :-) I'm sure I'll have more along the way. Matt
  13. What identifies the master key? I've seen car's listed with only 1 key. Can you program a spare from any key or only the master key? Thanks.
  14. Yes I'm well aware of the lovely roadworks. I'm mostly driving the m6 between stoke and Blackburn which has endless 50mph zones and traffic. Comfort and isolation from the world is what I'm after!
  15. Thanks everyone for the advice. So more important to judge on service history and condition over mileage. I'm planning on using it as my main car. Mostly motorway miles. Maybe 10k a year all together.
  16. Evening all. Been looking for an ls400 and have seen a few but wondered how high a mileage car would you think is still worth purchasing? 150k ? 180? 200k?? Thanks. Matt :-)
  17. Spoke to this guy earlier. Sounds interesting but had a few balljoint advisorys on the last mot. Has had 2 cambelts, but he's checking what the mileage was at the last one. It's a higher mileage than I was looking for but I'll go have a look on Monday if it's still available as I'm away this weekend.
  18. Thanks for that, I think you're right. It's got an ever growing list of issues and I'm looking for a long term car. Not the one for me I think. The wait continues.
