ATF Type IV

I did mine with 10 litres. Disconnected the cooler line from the transmission radiator into a container and pumped a litre at a time out running the engine. Then refill via dipstick tube. Ran clean after 10 litres. Little mixing of old and new oil and it gets the oil out of the torque converter. Think I saw the tutorial on lexls.com . Hope that makes sense! -
Hey yoda400. I've got occasional low idle, no communication from obd port, slightly off gearchanges and had a issue when it was very cold with it going into limp mode with vsc fault. Mostly it's the uncommunicative obd that points to the ECU as well as the age of the car now anyway. It's actually a friend of mines dad who's doing the job for me. I'll ask if he'd be open to the idea but he's doing me a favour really.

There's a guy in the states that's well regarded for this job. Lscowboy. Look him up on Facebook. He quoted me £250 plus shipping. Fortunately I have a friend who is an electronics engineer so he's doing mine in the next few weeks. There's a great post here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html tells you what capacitors are required.

So the last couple of times I've driven the ls400 it's fine to start with but after about a mile a vibration from the rear starts and gets quicky worse to the point that the whole car it shaking and you cannot go over 30 mph without it feeling like the wheels are coming off for a couple of miles then it just stops and it drives perfectly after that! I know it needs new rear bearings, I'm hoping this is the culprit. Any thoughts on what else I might be looking for? P.s I'm not driving the car like this. It's been parked since this happened on my way home.

Just a quick word on ball joints. I had a honda accord which developed stiff steering which wouldn't self center recently. Also had a slight clunk sometimes but I disregarded ball joints to my peril as I'd had them replaced withing a year. One evening as I pulled into my drive the front left ball joint exploded collapsing the suspension and smashing a drive shaft. I was fortunately only doing about 2mph but had been on the dual carriageway 5 mins earlier. Get it checked by a pro and don't buy cheap ball joints!

Hi all. Came out this evening to find a pool of ps fluid in the drive. The hose from the reservoir to the pump on my MK4 has split. Can a replacement be found or will any correct sized rubber hose work ok. If so what sized hose do I need? I've bodger it with masses of gaffer tape for now. Many thanks in advance. Matt 😁👍

power problem

Have you checked it's actually connected? I had the same issue and it was just unplugged. Someone had removed the trim at some point and forgotten to reconnect it. Easily done. Also easy to check. First, does the light inside the ashtray work when your headlights are on? If so its probably the fused holder (in the socket itself) as a they tend to go. If not then the whole unit isn't getting power so check the connection. The wood trim just pops off if you lever it up using a screwdriver with some tape on the end to protect against damage. There's a small clip that connects the lighter to the car. Hope that helps -
I do all my own car maintenance and i'm still learning new things with each new issue I come across! YouTube is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to learn how to do something. I have a 1998 MK4 LS400 and a 1999 Honda accord. I've done lots of suspension work on the Honda and have just completed replacing the alternator and ps pump as well as a full service on the Lexus. I enjoy working on the Lexus as it's all brilliantly bolted together, and I enjoy the challenges and satisfaction of fixing them both myself. 😁 I'm 30 so I've a few more years of learning to catch up yet.
