  1. Made it back from North Wales today. Plenty of queues at stations all along the route (Llangollen/Shrewsbury/Birmingham/Worcester) and some roped off with no fuel at all. Got home to realise my wife has no fuel in her car and needs it to get to work. She routinely leaves it until the light ha been on for a while so no surprise really… Went out just after 10 and found a local station still selling both petrol and diesel albeit had a bit of a wait in a queue. Won’t need anything for a few weeks now and hopefully the situation will have improved by then. Hope everyone that needs fuel can get it ok.

  2. It’s a car. Use it for what it’s intended to be - a vehicle for driving and transporting people and things - and don’t use it for  what it’s not intended to be - a device for connecting to the internet so that all manner of things not related to its primary purpose can be enjoyed. Get a life guys, it’s a car. If internet connectivity means more to you then stay at home on your PlayStation, Xbox, phone, PC or whatever you do that makes an internet connection so precious. Me? I just don’t get the need to be online 24x7.

  3. Managed to get fuel at 11 am today from the nearest BP station. Now have enough to get us home tomorrow. Only just made it - they had already run out of diesel, standard and Ultimate, had a little bit of e10 unleaded left but only enough for another half hour and a bit longer for Ultimate. We passed by three hours later and the station was closed. The guy who served me didn’t know when they were going to get another delivery.

  4. All NX Luxury, F-Sport and Premier models were four wheel drive vehicles. At the time these were sold they made up the bulk of NX vehicles sold. Four wheel drive in terms of the rear wheels being capable of being driven by an electric motor. The NX200T was a true four wheel drive vehicle in that drive was provided to all four wheels by the engine.

Definitely worth checking tyre pressures. For Europe, TPMS will trigger once pressures drop to 20% below the initialisation pressure, so certainly enough to feel a difference if only one side is low even without a warning light coming on.

My TPMS has always triggered at about 3 psi below the measured point which is more like 10%. 20% would be over 6 psi and I’ve never known it allow a 6 psi drop before triggering. Are you sure it’s 20%?

The car is new and under warranty. I would go back to the/a dealer and get them to sort it out.

Have you checked your tyre pressure? (although any discrepancy should have been picked up by the TPMS)

Up to a point yes. TPMS will allow a circa 10% deviation in pressure from the set pressure before alarming. This could be just over 3 psi and a 3 psi difference across the front axle could give a slight pulling to one side.

Any slight pulling to one side and it is best to measure and reset all pressures to the correct values. If it still does it then get a four wheel alignment.

Generally speaking a dealership won’t reset wheel alignment for free because even just bumping up a kerb is enough to knock wheel alignment out, not to mention the massive and frequent potholes we all have to contend with on today’s roads.

  7. If a replacement non-Lexus Original Equipment (OE) screen is manufactured to exactly the same standards as a Lexus OE screen then clearly it will be ok.

Unfortunately, many replacement non-OE screens are not, even when manufactured by the same company, eg Pilkington. They are only the same if manufactured to the same standards and there is quite a difference between manufacturer standards and other basic automotive and country/region specific glass standards. Most replacement ‘pattern’ screens are not manufactured to the same standards.

A good friend of mine worked for Pilkington and he confirmed that screens manufactured for the replacement market are not manufactured to the same standards as the manufacturers mandate for genuine OE screens. This doesn’t mean they are no good and clearly some screens will be better than others, depending upon what standards a screen has been manufactured to. My friend told me of quite a few examples of cheaper pattern screens being inferior in terms of whether for example a view is slightly distorted when looking through the glass. This is especially important with regard to forward looking cameras etc that most modern cars have nowadays.

I’m changing my insurer at next renewal time because they won’t allow a genuine Lexus screen to be fitted and if I was to mandate one myself they will only pay a relatively small sum to go towards the replacement. I want to be able to mandate a genuine Lexus screen so it’ll now be something I will always check when taking out new insurance.

For me, a screen is part of the structure of the car and I want it to be a genuine OE screen. Then again, I only use genuine parts for repairs and replacements too so this is just me. A personal choice I think.

    Hi Len/Paul,

I park in my garage from 5pm until 7am every day, the remaining time it is in a works car park with no trees, so I know it definitely wasn't picked up in my ownership.

As I said it was there very slightly when I picked it up in Feb this year, but has got worse over the summer, maybe the sun has affected it?

My local dealership have offered to try & polish it out for £85 which I have forwarded to the selling dealership last Tuesday, but no response yet.

I have tried Meguiars scratch remover, but it hasn't touched it. I am concerned too much work on that area will wear through the clear coat.

I will give the selling dealer until the middle of next week to reply, but I am sure they will say it has been caused by me as I didn't report it until 6 months after purchase, I do have pics from June when I noticed it getting worse.

Fair enough. I agree, best not to do too much in that area. As has been said above, a good professional detailer would know best about this sort of thing and could advise. They can also measure paint thickness to be sure there is enough paint to allow it to be polished out. When it happened to me I thought the paint was damaged. I tried loads of polish but it just didn’t touch it. The T-Cut removed it straight away. Good luck, hope you get a good result.

I have a small blemish on my roof that has got worse over the summer.

It was there when I bought the car, but as I could only just see it under my garage lights I didn't report it to dealership (bought as pre-reg with 6 miles on the clock), but over the summer it has got worse & I can see it in the daylight now.

I took it to my local dealership & they are saying it is not covered under the warranty as it looks like bird lime stain.

My concern now is that it will flake like yours has?

What do I do now that they are saying it's not covered?

Looks like the mark I had on a previous NX. It was from bird muck. I used T-Cut metallic and it removed it straight away. I then polished the area and you couldn’t see it. The paintwork stayed perfect for the next 12 months. Worth a go perhaps?

I was in my local B&Q a couple of years ago and noticed the drone of a plane approaching overhead. Suddenly I thought "That's a Lancaster" and rushed outside. The sound of those four Merlins is so distinctive.

This pic is from the last show at RAF Cosford in (I think) 2019.
