  1. I always used to have any reflection / glare coatings on glasses but started using contact lenses more and so on a pair of glasses for occasional use I decided to skip the anti glare coating - big mistake... I continually noticed reflections in the lenses which were distracting and I hated driving in them for that reason as I kept seeing reflections in my peripheral vision. Next pair I got the coating again and all good. The only downside is that the coating is easily marked such as putting the lenses gave down on a table.
  2. Had this on my IS 300h about 1,000 miles after it's last service - first time it's happened so I think they just forgot to reset it. It was possible to do the reset through the settings menu on the instrument cluster so may be the same on your ES.
  3. To wrap up this thread I have just fitted the rubber cushions to my armrest - I've arrowed the images to show what was done as follows (top row left to right followed by bottom row left to right): - The parts from Lexus - note that you need to ask for TWO of 58959-60060 (one for each side of the armrest) - I ordered these from Lexus Parts Direct - the shipping cost more than the parts... - On opening the armrest, arrowed are my old rubber cushions - the left one with no rubber (just the stem in the hole) and the right one had a bit of rubber left on it - After extracting the old stems I am left with two holes - The new cushions just push fit into the holes - also Lexus had put some felt as shown at each corner and I think in the middle - I had replaced the felt previously with self adhesive anti-rattle tape as it was coming off but didn't know about the rubber cushions (this image shows one side)- you can feel the outline for the tape if its missing at each corner - this is where the plastic will touch the plastic at the edges and under the latch on closing - Same on the other side - In the centre console, this is where the rubber cushions in the armrest lid sit when the lid is closed Having added the new cushions and renewed the felt (with little bits of self adhesive anti-rattle tape) the armrest lid now closes with nice click and there is absolutely no movement in the lid once it's closed. I hadn't appreciated how "loose" it had become with the rubber cushions deteriorating and now I've done it feels like it did when I got the car.
  4. Winter always reduces mpg in hybrids as the ICE has to be on more to keep the car warm and the hybrid battery does not perform so well in the cold. That difference seems about right. Mpg will improve with using E5 petrol. If you can get E5 for less than 10p a litre more than E10 you should be saving money. More than a 10p difference though and you won't (but will still get better mpg and the car will run smoother and quieter).

  6. Thanks - probably not worth me going through all the process with them in that case. Last year my premium went up 37% with no changes (with Tesco insurance - couldn't get it any cheaper on comparison sites so stayed with them) - not looking forward to what it will be in April this year - and still nothing has changed other than me and the car being one year older!

  8. My wife's Toyota Yaris hybrid started doing it this week in the cold weather reversing back off our drive and applying full lock. I think any car with stone cold tyres can experience this.
  9. How did NFU compare price wise - I use comparison sites each year but as NFU aren't on there would be good to know if it's worth asking them as well come April when mine and my wife's renews.
  10. It all sounds a bit odd... as you say if the car is in the "Executive and Performance" looks like someone has messed up. The parent company (as far as I know) shouldn't affect what service plan they can offer as they moved to National Plans (as per the Lexus website) - in the past they used to be by dealer group so once you had a plan you could only use that dealer group for servicing. I wonder whether the 5 year plan you have was somehow still only tied to the dealer group you purchased the car from? Given that you bought the car from a different centre to the one you will be using for servicing (I assume) to get the bottom of it sounds like it would be worthwhile contacting Lexus customer relations and asking them to check out what is what. Worse case is that you should be able to cancel the existing 5 year one if needed and then take out a new one at the right price (though may then not be for 5 years).

May be worth an email to Lexus customer relations - cr@lexus.co.uk - to ask them what is the score on this as my understanding was that if you take a service plan although there is no discount from the published service pricing on the website (though as Linas said some dealers may have offered this in the past with an upfront payment, but not sure now with the new national service offering) what you are getting is to fix the price of the services going forward so you are shielded from inflation. The Lexus web page states: FIXED-PRICE The monthly price is interest-free and completely fixed, meaning it won't increase with inflation. If you haven't seen it already have a look at:https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/service-plans and https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/servicing-mot-hybrid-health-check If the price of the plan is now being increased to hedge against inflation then there is little incentive to take it - might as well bank the money (and make interest on it) and pay for each service as needed. You can cancel the service plan at any time and receive a refund of monies paid (that have not been used yet for a service) and so that option is still open to you if you have been misled in any way.

Yes - all summer tyres do this in winter when they are cold and it gets down to around freezing as the tread blocks lose their elasticity - gets better once the tyres have warmed up after a bit of driving - lots of thread on here about it. No need to be concerned, though it's quite startling when you first hear it.

I do two year plans with three services over those two years (paid over that time on a monthly DD) - just taken out another two year plan and the cost for the three services is as per the price currently on the Lexus website and so that's fixed for two years for me. May be worth checking on yours if the uplift is policy for a 5 year plan or a mistake.
  14. My IS 300h has now done 142k miles (17" wheels) and the inside edge of the rear tyres has always worn first. I never have the tyres rotated (which can cause imbalance if the wear has started). For reference over that 142k miles, without fail, the rear tyres have been changed every 20k miles and the fronts every 40k miles. I replace rears when the middle / outer part of the tread is down to about 3mm - at this time the inside edges of the rears will have virtually no tread left (but still legal - so nothing like cords showing). Given I wouldn't keep a tyre on with less than 3mm in the main part of the tyre I consider this wear pattern ok.

Yes that's it - the rubber cushion has fallen off the stem on both sides - I found one of the cushions in the centre console but at the time didn't know where it had come from - that was a few months ago and so they had lasted 9 years on my car so if the replacements last the same they will probably outlive my time with the car...!

I had quite a bit of damage on my Lexus repaired there a nunber of years ago and was very pleased with the outcome - would never know the repair had been done. That was done on insurance so not sure if you are paying personally or it's insurance you are claiming on. However if you are paying out of your own pocket then it may be more expensive than you are willing to pay as they will only want to put it back "as new" whereas a 3rd party bodyshop may be able to offer something more cost-effective for you.

  18. Maybe - mine was a 1997 car but I just read about E39 generally - but you may be right and that they changed something mid-cycle.

Apparently for the BMW E39 (which mine was) the throttle control is electronic; there is a throttle cable that runs to a device known as an MDK (motor-driven throttle valve), and is connected to a pedal position sensor inside the MDK. This allows the DME to sense the pedal position, and therefore the throttle opening. How that compares to the Lexus IS though is beyond my understanding...!

  22. I'm waiting on mine from Lexus Parts Direct - should be here in a few days and then I'll replace them - until your post I didn't realise they were meant to be there as mine had lost the rubber cushions without me realising so it proved to be a very useful post.
  23. Yes had that on a previous BMW 528i (over 20 years ago) - had turned the car on and moved it a few yards in the drive and turned it off. Then later it wouldn't start. Called breakdown and they said because it was only running for a few seconds and running rich from cold the engine was flooded (too much petrol). Told me the way to start it in that case was to put the accelerator to the floor and crank it until it fires. After about 10 seconds the car fired up and all was well. I've never started and stopped a car quickly again. I did have a similar problem on an outboard (marine engine) that fired up from cold and stalled and wouldn't fire up normally again - remembered the above, opened throttle fully and cranked it and after a while it fired up again. A good tip to remember.

Mystery solved - looking at the link from the AliExpress from @agent_dess I realised that it's not where the screws are and I had covered the holes for the cushions with the anti-rattle tape I applied - peeled back the tape on the latch (see below image) and there is the remains of the cushion plastic pin - the rubber head has become detached with age/use just leaving the remains in the hole - I will order them from LPD in that case - probably will need to do something like put a screw onto the remains of the old ones in the armrest to pull them out as they are push pin fit.
