  1. My IS250 SE-L went straight to the rear camera view, as does my IS-F.Do you mean the acceptance screen on first starting the car?
  2. Spoken like a 220D diesel owner Should never have been produced, and thankfully they're being discontinued.
  3. Correct on your first guess, oil industry, subsea specialist. HIC has given me more than my fair share of problems, too numerous to mention both from Cathodic Protection and metals treatment :o
  4. Seems to work OK, but I'd be wary of using it on any high strength steel parts, especially steel components that are in tensile stress during use (e.g. studs, ht bolting or stub axles and similar with threads for nuts) because of the risk from hydrogen embrittlement. When such parts are electro zinc plated or electro galvanised they are also exposed to surface hydrogen and are heat treated afterwards to bake it out, but even then there's no guarantee that all the hydrogen is removed. The risk is called HIC (hydrogen induced cracking) caused when the hydrogen diffuses into the metal and re-combines in minuscule voids of the metal matrix. HIC can occur over a period of time, especially in tensile stressed components so please be aware of the risk.
  5. Interesting site Marko, and a lot of work in those toys, but just one question....what on earth is this, and what's it doing? Looks like some kind of electroplating/galvanising set up.
  6. Thanks - I am aware many people have tinted this car before however the F-Sport's middle rear brake light is different to a normal IS250. Normally the light is on the bottom on the window so it's easy to shape around, but this model its raised with 2 legs so the film needs to go around it. I will try and get a picture tomorrow to help explain. The company I am using are the largest on the South Coast and do all the tints for the local Mercedes and BMW cars amongst many others (www.sctints.com) I didn't mention the 'normal' IS250. The central brake light on my IS-F is the same configuration as the F-Sport and many people have had tints applied to the rear glass without requiring removal of the brake light.
  7. Does the 250 accept a change to a lower gearing if the speed is too high? Certainly the IS-F just beeps at you if you try it, and I recollect my IS250 SE-L auto was the same, so there's no chance of damaging the transmission because until you brake to a suitable speed the system just will not accept it. Changing up in the IS-F is similar, but my recollection with the IS250 is that it just brings in the rev limiter (without the verbal indication?).
  8. Many people have had tints applied to the rear glass without needing to remove the brake light. Go to a company that know what they're doing, like Tint 'R' in Nottingham.
  9. OEMStandard fitting IS250 17" RWD: Front: 225/45/17, 17x8 +45mm O/S. dia: 633mm/width 222mm. r.p.mile 834 Rear: 245/45/17, 17x8, +45mm O/S. dia: 651mm/width 244mm. r.p.mile 811 (believe that models produced post 2006 were 17x8.5 rears only). 18" RWD : Front: 225/40/18, 18x8, +45mm Rear: 255/40/18, 18x8.5, +50mm The 17" and 16" IS200 rims will fit without modification, but as you say you'll need to adjust the profile depth to match the above within 2%. The IS200 offset is + 50mm and the OEM rims are 7" wide both front and rear. There's quite a few rims from Toyotas that also fit. Basically most rims with PCD = 114.3mm will fit as long as you check the offsets are within range see http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=11821 for the offset calculator. I've swopped the other way in, that I have the 17" OEM rims from my old IS250 SE-L on my IS200 Sport with Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres. 10. Already got it as the IS-F automatically pulls in any slack in the seatbelt micro seconds before braking when the radar senses the obstacle in front is too close for the current speed. First time it happened was when a car (a Volvo of course) turned into the gap I'd left to the car in front at a slower speed than either of us in the overtaking lane were doing. It was a bit of a shock the first time the IS-F effectively took over control, but it happened a second time and I wasn't so phased. The settings are a bit over cautious as on both occasions I had already anticipated the only corrective necessary was to stop accelerating, :eerrrmm: but I reckon it's a very useful feature if at either occasion I had been momentarily distracted for any reason.
  11. Lexus brought out the 'F Sport' range of mods after quite a few people started modifying their IS250/350 with parts made available by non OEM manufacturers like Joe Z intakes in the USA, Tanabe exhausts in Japan. The 'F Sport' range should be available from Lexus dealerships in the UK, but as it took some considerable time for the 'ground effects' body kit to be made available in the UK after Lexus introduced it in Japan and the USA, I wouldn't hold your breath. I fitted a Joe Z intake pipe, Tanabe Exhaust, bigger front discs & calipers (from the IS350), and a free flow air filter on my IS250 SE-L long before Lexus made similar components available (at a much higher cost) as the 'F Sport' range. However, I did copy the F Sport lower air box by cutting slots in the original part after the range was introduced.
  12. Have you tried to play a music DVD? DVD means Digital Versatile Disc, not Digital Video Disc, and in that regard isn't limited to playing video.
  13. I still had my old Nokia N95 8Gig, but although I could pair with it I had no success in transferring the contacts when inserting the sim card from the iPhone for the IS-F, although I'm sure I managed it from the Nokia for my IS250 SE-L. Maybe it's me
  14. Yes, aware of that, but the list I posted were the basic commands. 'I'm hungry' flashes up the restaurant icons, but as you say you can also specify by type of cuisine. I forgot the other one I use more often with the IS-F than I did with the IS250 SE-L and that's 'Show Petrol Stations' These are similar POI commands and a fuller destination set: POI MENU [RESTAURANT] FAST FOOD JAPANESE RESTAURANT CHINESE RESTAURANT FRENCH RESTAURANT ITALIAN RESTAURANT OTHER RESTAURANTS [sHOPPING] SHOPPING [AUTOMOTIVE] PETROL STATION PARKING RENTAL CAR LEXUS TOYOTA [HOTEL] HOTEL [ENTERTAINMENT] GOLF COURSE SKI RESORT AMUSEMENT PARK CINEMA BOWLING CASINO ICE SKATING SPORTS CENTRE TOURIST ATTRACTION WINERY MUSIC CLUB [COMMUNITY] TOWN HALL HOSPITAL PARK AND RECREATION COMMUNITY CENTRE EXHIBITION CENTRE [TRANSPORTATION] TRAIN STATION AIRPORT BORDER CROSSING BUS STATION FERRY PORT PARK AND RIDE MOTORWAY SERVICE TOURIST INFORMATION [OTHER] HISTORICAL MONUMENT THEATRE MUSIC SCHOOL TOWN CENTRE [iCON OFF] POI OFF DESTINATION MENU [ROUTE SETTING TO HOME] HOME [ROUTE SETTING TO PREVIOUS POINT] PREVIOUS START POINT PREVIOUS DESIGNATION [ROUTE SETTING TO QUICK ACCESS] QUICK ACCESS ONE QUICK ACCESS TWO QUICK ACCESS THREE QUICK ACCESS FOUR QUICK ACCESS FIVE VALID WHILE DISPLAYED ENTER DESTINATION ADD TO DESTINATION REPLACE DESTINATION CANCEL YES NO
  15. The commands I use most often are 'Go home' and 'Suspend guidance', but also use the phone commands for numbers I have assigned e.g 'Phone home'.
  16. This is a subject that could be discussed ad infinitum, but it comes down to how picky you are about the state of your cars bodywork. You do not say what colour your car is, but light colours, especially metallic silvers don't show up imperfections like swirls so readily, whereas the darker colours do. Here's an article attempting to explain why a sponge and plain old water isn't such a good idea http://www.cleanyour...wtopic.php?t=27 As an example of the difference between a good finish and one that has swirls and degradation from poor washing, heres a couple of recent pics of an Aston Martin in its process of paint correction from Christian Gouldson of Invisable Touch Detailing. The pics were taken after removing the tape used for sectioning off the panels and shows both pre and post paint correction.
  17. I would be very interested to know if that's possible too, 'cos I've had no success with all attempts to date.
  18. Exactly. I'm sure they'll take reasonable care but I'm not prepared to risk it as it would take me longer to polish out any swirls than I would to wash the car properly.
  19. Thanks for your assistance Tango! Does the list include controlling the multimedia pack? Have a look at my edit above, under audio. I've found I only use a few regular commands and get quite frustrated when others do not appear to work. Have been known to swear at it on such occasions and the replies were quite funny e.g. I exclaimed 'Oh Fxxx Off' and the response was 'showing all airport icons' Dunno if it was coincidence or whether the programmer had a sense of humour.

  21. It shouldn't be, but you probably need to be on their books for servicing. I bought my IS250 from Lexus Bristol (Sytner group) but Lexus Cheltenham (Lister group) offered the free Saturday car wash. However, as I make a point of not letting anyone else, apart from myself and Christian Gouldson, valet my cars, I politely refuse. They also know not to wash it when I take them in for a service.
  22. Lets be blunt, there's absolutely no point in have an IS-F and driving it as you would a 250. Cruising on the motorway at a steady 70-80 mph may well return 30 mpg if you're happy being cut up by the world and his dog. I find myself using the acceleration to find myself some space, and in doing so the mpg drops quite drastically.
  23. Having had an IS250 SE-L from new and modified it to suit my taste, I then bought an IS-F in the same colour and trim (Cadoxton Slate), so was fortunate to have both for about a year trying to make up my mind as to which one to keep . It was a close decision as to be honest, the IS250 SE-L as modded was similar to drive as the IS-F in typical traffic conditions, and I preferred its looks over the 'F'. Over the year I found myself using the IS250 for the occasional commute to my head office of 110 miles each way purely for the fuel costs, and using the F for every other journey. Now I work mostly from home and my mileage has dropped drastically, so even though I was very sad to see it go, the 250 was sold to a good home. I suppose the drop in mileage was one factor, but the exclusitivity and extra power was the real decision maker. It's tempting to be a bit of a hooligan with the 'F', but using it to anything near its potential on public roads is an invitation to have your license taken away, so it's also used for the occasional track day. I don't find the running costs to be prohibitive, although some of the consumables like pads are very expensive in comparison to the 250 so service costs are a little higher. I had 19" rims on the 250 that were slightly wider than the BBS's on the F, so no great difference in tyre cost apart from wearing out the rears a bit more rapidly. Road tax £460.00 per annum and insurance a little more, and I always maintain the extended warranty as I did with the 250. Don't believe the mpg figures, if you get 30 mpg out of the F then you may as well drive a 250. My average is around 24mpg combined, not counting track time as there I've managed to get it down to 4 mpg .
