  1. Yeah, I know - thanks for making the point though... only problem is, I'm on a very tight budget right now... maybe I'll look for a used pair. Cheers
  2. Many thanks Colin. Presumably no variance within mainland UK, though ? Cheers
  3. Hi all. Can anyone help me please with the correct part number for a Front Offside shock absorber for a 2007 IS220D ? On different sites I'm variously seeing 48510-53160, and 48510-53161. What's the difference (is it just the model year ?) Also - are these shocks "handed" - ie, is the left same as the right ? Cheers all - thanks in advance.
  4. I know this is now a really old thread BUT - just wanted to add my thanks. Totally confused as to why neither the dash button, not the rear boot button, not the remote, would open the boot of my 2007 IS220D - which had food in the boot (I'd just been shopping), and it's hot here right now !. So was fearing all kinds of nastiness in there within a few days. Had no idea about the little button in the glove box, and would never have found it, if not for this thread. So - once again - THANK YOU !!.
  5. Nice reply Mauler thanks. I believe you're right - now I've got a copy of Techstream, I can see that there are in fact 6 or 7 ECU's in the Lexus !! Much to my surprise. And a separate one for ABS / VSC, as you say. Mate if you're having trouble with drivers - I work in IT - I could fire you over a bundle of the drivers that are workihg for me on Win. 10, if you like ?
  6. Thanks to you all for replies, and apologies for this delayed reply - I've been away for a bit. John - thanks for the advice re. Techstream. This sounds stupid but I actually always thought that was a Vauxhall-specific app; I'm sure I've seen it discussed before on the Vectra forum I used to belong to. Anyway - thanks for clearing that one up 🙂 Herbs thanks for the link - I've ordered the cable, and am waiting for my conscience to get back to me on the matter of the software 🙂 Linas - thanks for such a detailed reply - much appreciated. I don't recall the exact menu option in Torque Lite, but it was something like "List Error Codes", and it came back saying "None Found"... odd, but understandable given that they are clearly hidden in a Toyota-specific part of the information structure... maybe your full copy of "Torque" goes deeper and isn't just ad-free as the only difference. Good point also re simply deleting codes and expecting that to "fix" anything - yes, of course, if there's a fault, the code will reappear; I'll be mindful of that 🙂 ANYWAY - meanwhile, I took the car down to my friendly local garage and had it hooked up and scanned - just because he did it for free - and he reckons he picked up an actual fault with the ABS. Didn't see that one coming - I've had a lonngggg history of smoking / EGR / DPF / 5th Injector problems, so that "Check VSC" and "ABS" light is more often on than off.... but it might be the case that, on this occasion, it's actually telling the truth !. I'll get my hands on some decent software as you've all advised, and have another look myself, before doing anything else... it seems the ABS Sensor is integral to the actual wheel bearing assembly, or so I'm told ? Had that wheel bearing replaced 18 months ago, so don't want to shell out for another, just yet, unless I have to. Had a quick look at the wiring / connector, and all seems OK... Bah, maybe there's some expense coming my way ... 😞
  7. Afternoon all. What OBDII readers / software do folks on here use to reset Lexus error codes, please ? Specifically the perennial "Check VSC" and ABS lights. I'm STILL struggling with my "Check VSC" issue.... had a spate of smokiness a while ago (which has calmed down since I cleaned the EGR and DPF, and replaced the 5th injector, and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery) .... but the fault message remains, as does the ABS warning light which seems to go with it... and that's an MOT failure, as I just learned 😞 My generic cheap Chinese OBDII reader, along with "Torque Lite" on the phone.... says "No codes recorded". So I'm guessing I need something more Lexus-aware ? Thanks all in advance. Cheers - Chris.
  8. Fantastic, thanks Steve - I'll have a look this afternoon ! (Cheers also TigerFish although I'm sure he won't see this).
  9. LOL ok alright - I missed the part about "Sold" 😄 Sorry Steve - but thanks for the info 🙂
  10. Afternoon all. I've just had an MOT failure on the IS220D for (among other things lol) "Offside Rear Parking brake inoperative on one side - No effort". I don't have the money at the moment to have this looked at by my local garage, so I'm going to have a look myself (I'm not a newbie to car mechanics, before people wade in and say not to mess with brakes 🙂). Just wanted to ask the Group though, before I get too far into it - what kind of a job is it (ie - "Easy", "OK", "Pig") to strip down the rear handbrake components ? I'll only have a window of a few hours to get it sorted before I need to pick the missus up from work 🙂 I'm aware (I think ?) that the Lexus uses separate pads for the handbrake as opposed to an actuator on the main caliper... so obviously more components to check / service - but beyond that I don't know much about what to expect. OR - is it potentially / generally something more simple, like a broken linkage between the handbrake lever and the rear ? All comments gratefully received - Cheers.
  11. Nigel - very impressed to see you still around after your original post of 7 years ago ! 🙂 I'm like you - sadly, the IS220D has killed my faith in diesels. A lovely car (albeit a bit gutless), but just far too much trouble. Anyway - sorry to hijack this post but - I'm STILL struggling with my "Check VSC" issue.... had a spate of smokiness a while ago (which has calmed down since I reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery) .... but the fault code remains (!?) and the light is still on, as is the ABS warning light which seems to go with it... and that's an MOT failure, as I just learned 😞 So - I hooked up my generic cheap Chinese OBDII reader, along with "Torque Lite" on the phone.... and it says "No codes recorded". So - I can't reset the pesky light and get my MOT sorted. Question then is - what other readers / software do folks on here use, to reset Lexus error codes, please ? I have some experience with monitoring computer hardware, and in that field at least, there's your "standard" ISO-type errors and codes, and then there's usually vendor specific "secret" ones too, that only their kit can see. I'm guessing Lexus have hidden all their fruity (ie useful) stuff, in a management block of their own, requiring either their own kit to read, or a very cleverly researched third party utility ? Cheers all, thanks in advance.
  12. >> So I remade the wiring from dpf sensor to the ECU and then got good values for the dpf sensor pressure. Appreciate this is an old post but I've had this problem for the last 3 years and nothing / nobody has been able to resolve it - including, replacing 5th injector, cleaning EGR, DPF re-gen, etc. As noted above, the only thing that stops it FOR A FEW DAYS is resetting the ECU - SO, I am 100% convinced it's an electrical fault, as noted by grahamtrd above. My question is - can anyone please post a pic of the wiring / engine bay location he's referring to, above, so I can start checking it over ? Many thanks in advance 🙂
  13. Hi Normski - I know this is an old thread but just wanted to post you a big "THANK YOU" - I've been trying to work out how to disable the interior sensors for ages (well, since we got our new Greyhound, anyway... ). The instructions in the user manual don't make sense; they don't make it clear that the "interior sensors" option only appears when the ignition is off. Nice one - cheers 🙂
  14. Ok, if they haven't changed since launch then that's good enough for me - thanks mate. Yes, I did "ask seller a question" but - they will presumably just use their own "checker", which will return the same results of course, so not holding my breath there 🙂 No, I don't have the original locking nut key box - just the key, which my local garage has stripped. I'm going to have to get them to chisel off the locking nuts and then I'll fit these vanilla ones. Heading down to Dorset at the weekend, and in fear of getting a puncture - especially as I'll be towing !. TBH I usually get rid of locking wheel nuts anyway - for reasons exactly like this - they are a pain, and nobody nicks alloys any more (do they ?!?)
  15. Cheers John !. The "checker" on their Ebay page says these will NOT fit a 2007 IS2210D, though ? Have you used these nuts yourself ?
  16. Cheers for that mate. I'm told they are £5 each from Lexus - and just lost my job so not anxious to go there - so was hoping to buy some OEM ones from Ebay .... ?
  17. Hi all - This has probably been asked before, so, apologies - but - I need to get a set of 4 wheel nuts for my 2007 IS220D - the local garage kindly sheared off my locking wheel nut key the other day whilst changing a wheel bearing. So - can anyone please confirm the spec for the nuts on this car ? Stock wheels, so I know I need the "flat" type nut with a captive washer, not a taper - and I guess it's an M12 just by looking - but what about the other specs please ? Many thanks in advance ! Cheers - Chris.
  18. Hi all - Many thanks for comments received on my post above - and particular apologies to those of you who replied a while ago, but whom I have not yet acknowledged / thanked - I've been away a lot recently.... but, I know how annoying it is when you bother to respond to a post, and then the OP disappears ! :-) Anyhoo - thanks Shahpor for your comprehensive reply. The temperamental rear boot catch (rubber-covered button above number plate on boot) continues to frustrate me. I did some more methodical testing - and the ONLY circumstance in which it will open the boot, is if I have the key in my pocket - ie, via the proximity sensor. EVEN IF THE CAR IS UNLOCKED - if I do not have the key on me, then the rear button refuses to open the boot. Bring the key near - hey presto, button opens boot. So - a sticky catch seems unlikely (since it works, predictably, when "conditions" are met...). I remain baffled by this... surely the rear boot catch should open the boot, when the car is unlocked, whether you have the key on you or not ??. Has nobody else honestly noticed poor radio reception ? I mean - it is really bad... I'm an old git now so listen to Radio 4 quite a bit.. it's more or less un-usable, dropping in and out... but even Radio 2 is crackly. I am thinking of getting the HU out and seeing if there's any way to fit an RF booster - does anyone have any experience of this, please ? I think I've realised that my economy is probably "normal" - or at least, normal for the car, and my style of driving, and the fact that I have had air-con on pretty much constantly since taking ownership of it. It does seem to get quite stuffy, quite quickly, in the cabin, without air-con ?. I think perhaps I was spoiled by my previous Diesel, an Insignia, which was giving me 50MPG+ on average (even when towing) and 550 miles on a 60L tank. The Lexi offers me a Range of around 350 miles, just after a fill-up, which seems quite tragic by comparison. However - there is some hope - thanks to Farqui for EGR cleaning and ECU reset tips. Is the EGR cleaning a Dealer job, I wonder ? And - I have to say, I'm always very nervous about disconnecting batteries from modern cars, having had some (in particular a Toyota GT86) go into a total dead sulk and Immobilise themselves, thereafter...)... do we definitely think it's OK, on the Lexus, please ? I also think I have got to the bottom of the "sporadic" starting. The car always seemed to start perfectly first time, but after a run, having been stopped and parked, it would invariably take 3 tries... the green light would come on... then go amber as soon as I pressed the button. It then might stay green, the car would try one turn, then bog down as if for a flat battery. However - I think this is as simple (and annoying) as - I have short legs. Unless the Clutch pedal is FIRMLY planted to the floor... I get the above symptoms..when I grind it into the carpet, everything is fine. So - maybe I need to adjust the clutch pedal travel, or grow a bit, or alter the seat :-) For the sometimes-not-returning folding mirrors; I have concluded that this is simply a matter of age, and bearings drying out. If I (manually) take both mirrors (Yes, Shahpor, it is both mirrors.. and I DO have memory seats...) in a full 360* orbit, as far left and right, and up and down, as possible - then the problem goes away, for a while. I think I need to get inside the mirror housings and throw some WD-40 around. I wonder - are there any "How-To's" on this site, that might help me get in there without breaking anything please, folks ? Also - Shahpor - thank for the link re the Po-40 kit. I will look into that. I did check out my Satellite Switch, though, in the vain hope of seeing an option (I do realise that an '07 car is too old for that anyway, though...) and - interestingly - I seem to have a "Priming" option, in the menu. NO idea what that might be ... does anyone know ? Thanks Paulrnx for comments re contacting the Dealer. On my Insignia - the Dealer could wake up ALL KINDS of funky stuff, via the OBD11 port and their specialised unit (called "Tech2") for a Vauxhall...) - I remember finding something on a Vauxhall forum.. a set of keypresses in Tech2 (something like "Press 1, then 2, then "A", then type "40c")... which I took it down to the Dealer and got them to do - and lo and behold, suddenly I had two Trip computers not one, and a "Range" display for my mileage-to-empty... which I did not have before. Do we know if similar stuff exists for the Lexus, please, and if there's any guides to codes, on this site ? Other than that - LOVING this car. Bit gutless at low revs, massive turbo lag, but looks the business, and pleases me every day. One other thing to add to my snag list, though - the little flappy plastic catch on the front of the arm-rest trinket box, came off in my hand the other day, and I can't see any way to properly fix it back in... it will stick back in, and work, but then of course just comes out again... has anyone else suffered from this ? Anyway - apologies for the long post, and the new set of questions - and thanks again for all kind welcomes to the Forum, and replies received so far :-) Cheers all- Chris.
  19. Hi all - Thanks for words of welcome to the Forum. So, I've now had the IS 220d for a couple of months, and just thought I'd share my personal "snag-list" of things that are bothering me, in case anyone with more experience of this lovely vehicle might care to say "Normal... Normal... Oh Dear!..." etc :-) So here it is - 1/ Temperamental rear boot-catch - sometimes opens the boot, sometimes doesn't.. can't see any patterns as to when and why (ie - car unlocked with key fob versus unlocked by proximity...) 2/ Really bad FM radio reception on all stations 3/ VERY annoying on-screen Health and Safety message and "I Agree" prompt, seemingly pops up whenever it feels like it, does not seem to recognise that you already "Agreed" ?! 4/ Really bad fuel economy even after a long run on Cruise - around 32-ish mpg average ? 5/ Sometimes temperamental starting - always starts first-pull in the morning, but thereafter, starter sometimes seems to "bog down" after a single turn.. almost as if there's a starter motor or battery issue - but then, a couple of tries later, it starts perfectly ? 6/ Wing mirrors usually fail to return to their "normal" position after auto-dipping for Reverse 7/ Can't seem to find any way to use Bluetooth for playing music - only for the phone. This may well be normal, but seems a bit daft... (clearly, I don't have the Audio System manual.... :-( ) 8/ Audible / actually "feel-able" CLUNK from the front (definitely not the rear, ie Diff...) when changing gear sometimes, especially in low gears / at low speed And finally - is there any way at all to get the car to auto-retract the wing mirrors when I stop it / lock it, rather than requiring me to press the button manually, which I ALWAYS forget to do lol ?! Thanks in advance to all !! Cheers - Chris.
  20. Ooops - sorry, thanks Mike :-)
  21. Hi guys, just introducing myself.... I just joined the Lexus party, trading in a BMW 3-Series for a 2007 IS 220D and - wow, sooo happy by comparison ! :-) Not sure how well I did, but she's an 07 plate, as I said, with refurbed 18" alloys, SatNav, keyless entry and start, electronic memory seats, voice command recognition - most of this stuff might be standard but, to me, as the ex-driver of an (as usual) rather spartan Beemer, this is utter luxury ! :-) Pulls like a train, too, although I'm not quite sure what is the point of that 6th gear, since I can't seem to get anywhere near using it properly ... ? Only niggle I have is - the hand-brake was sloppy so I asked the seller to get it sorted - he's taken it to a local garage which I know to be a bit slap-dash (they once returned a car to me after a service with the rear wheel nuts only finger-tight !!) and, sure enough, it has come back with the (manual) gear-shift gaiter pushed in to the housing, just hanging down loose, where they have gained access to the handbrake adjustment. I can't see how to clip it back, and I suspect they have broke off the clips, although I don't know, because I don't know what they should look like. Anyone familiar with this, and got any tips for sorting it out, please ? The seller is a mate (albeit - he's in the motor trade), and I don't really want to have to go back to him moaning about such a small thing on an overall brilliant car, would rather sort it myself. Would really welcome all your top 5 tips, tricks and traps for this amazing new motor... ! :-) Cheers all - Chris.
