Apologies for the late reply Olliesgrandad but only just been released from hospital .. Yes that is one heavy tailgate .. hope your grandson's fingers weren't stinging too much .. least you were outside A & E which might have proven handy otherwise Thanks for the input -
RX450h Tailgate

Thank you for the reply .. I've not used this Key button ever !! .. however just been out to the car and tried it and it works .. fully opens and fully closes .. so I guess you have answered my question in that .. only the key button or dashboard remote can initiate fully automatic mode .. Thanks for the input appreciated -
Hi .. This may sound a silly question .. I own a 2011 RX450h My question is after 5 years of use .. I unlock the tailgate by pressing the button above the rear Registration Plate this unlocks things but I then have to manually open the tailgate all the way which is awkward when you have a heap of shopping .. should the tailgate not open itself .. fully and automatically without my having to lift it ?? I ask because although I rarely use the remote Tailgate switch on the dashboard .. when I do use this switch it will fully open the Tailgate automatically .. likewise when I press this remote switch again it will fully close the Tailgate without any intervention on my behalf Any comments would be appreciated thanks

Hi John .. Thank you soooo very much for that and your super quick response .. I have just been out to the car and put the screen all back as it was .. brilliant 🙂 Never ever noticed those little boxes let alone knew you could change the settings and quite frankly don't even know how I did it in the first place but thank you .. i'm very grateful for your input especially as I was seeing a visit to Lexus and pound notes disappearing into their coffers Cheers Gilbert

Driving through water
Gilbert Fudpucker replied to m4rkw's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
A few years ago we had weeks of really severe flooding in Cumbria .. I drove thro' it all every day and haven't had any problems .. just make sure Bow water stays below the Air Intake otherwise you are asking for problems 🙂 -
Hi All .. Wondering if someone can help .. a couple of weeks ago I was fitting my Bike Carrier to the rear Tailgate of my 2011 RX450h and stupidly pulled the door closed instead of pushing the button to do it automatically .. I had only pulled the Tailgate partly down when suddenly there was a loud bang and from then on each time I closed the tailgate I had to do it manually .. as the button to close just wasn't working anymore so I figured something had broken .. Then 5 days ago I go to close the Tailgate and just out of long term habit pressed the Close button and hey presto It closed and has been perfect ever since Bear with me here .. I now notice that when I select reverse gear to back into my parking space I have a clear picture of what is behind the car but most of the reversing guide lines which appear on the Dashboard Display have disappeared .. i.e. the Yellow guide lines and also the Red line which tells you your getting too close to an object and which works in conjunction with the audible Beep .. all gone !! All I have is an occasional Green guide line and sometimes a Green box guide on screen .. no audible warnings anymore Visual Inspection of the Camera shows nothing wrong .. Parking sensors are definitely in the On mode and I haven't had a bump of any sort Could the Tailgate stopping working and guide lines disappearing just be a coincidence .. or perhaps a computer software glitch or maybe a hardware malfunction Any theories / fixes / suggestions would be most appreciated Cheers Gilbert

Hi all .. Need some advice .. I feel the NavScreen on my 2011 RX450h has always behaved rather erratically in that I select any specific function ie. Audio or Telephone etc: and then after a while if I just leave it .. the unit either switches itself off or reverts to the road map function even tho' I havn't touched the thing .. I would have thought that if for instance I had selected Audio the unit would stay alive showing the audio channels and stay in that mode until I selected another function but it dosn't Am I the only one or has someone else had this problem .. any suggestions or help would be appreciated Cheers

One other thing .. the Reversing Camera is selected automatically as soon as Reverse Gear is selected .. so no buttons to press -

Not sure if this will help but , my 2011 RX450h whilst reversing on the Camera Screen has a Yellow Box with a horizontal Red Line and this box curves either way as you turn the steering wheel showing your limits as for instance reverse parking between 2 white lines in a car park , at the same time there are also 2 Green Lines on the camera screen which stay in a fixed position at all times and once you are reversing straight these Green Lines disappear under the Yellow Lines indicating you are going straight backward May be worth a quick call to your Lexus dealer and have them check it out .. doubt if you would be charged for a bit of advice As for your connectivity my RX will not download Audio from my phone what I have is a lead from deep inside the glove box , this I plug into my phone and can then play music from my phone when I press the AUX /USB Button on the Dashboard (see attached photo) Hope this helps -

Sorry for the late reply , Just looking at the warranty I have for my LS600h , Lexus will give you a warranty up to 10 years old or 140,000 miles maximum , however the " Expiry Mileage" could theoretically be in the hundreds of thousands of miles the car has been driven when the warranty finally runs out For instance you take out a warranty for a year on a Lexus which is 10 years old and has 100,000 miles on the clock , then you drive around the Planet 10 times and the cars mileage reads 348,600 +/- at the end of the warranty period , Lexus will cover you for all of that mileage until the day the warranty expires , which to me is a good deal and does give peace of mind On the subject of Hybrid batteries .. no matter how old the vehicle is , simply get the Hybrid Battery Health Check at every MOT , too many of us myself included worry about Hybrid battery condition as I did on my 2008 LS600 , having done my homework I have found it is an extremely rare occurrence although individual cells can drop out and rarely an Inverter goes pear shaped just ensure whatever Hybrid you purchase has that Lexus HBHC Certificate , so stress not !! and you can all put the calculators away now i'm pretty darn close 🙂 -

Ha.. i'm not surprised , mine was the top of the range LS600h RSR long wheelbase in Sable with cream interior , a 2008 model and as much as I was scared of the potential problems and cost of repairs I bought anyway , straight to the Lexus dealership for a check over , 10 years old and the techs were amazed once it was up on the ramps at how well it had been cared for and looked underneath but more so every toy worked perfectly , the Hybrid battery health check was spot on and it was a dream to drive -

Really sorry to hear that .. not often members have all those problems but as you say expensive items on the horizon and although my particular 2011 RX is far from perfect in a lot of respects it is without doubt along with the LS the most reliable car I have ever owned -

Interesting views but .. if your LS is bankrupting you why go for an RX .. I have been running a 2011 450h alongside an LS600h and quite frankly there is little in the mpg between them .. I rarely get mid 30's in the RX normally around 28-30mpg and mine has the Panoramic roof which dosn't open nor can I fit roof bars because of it .. then there are the under trays front and rear so can't fit a towbar to mount my bike carrier without major surgery .. fortunately this vehicle will swallow a small whale !! Not sure I agree with members comments regarding Air suspension .. as I have mentioned before and just a few days ago I asked about fitting Coilovers as find this RX of mine can be very uncomfortable over potholed roads whereas the same roads where I live in the LS600 (especially) , my X5 and Q7 all with Air suspension just soaked it up and bearing in mind the LS600 was a 2008 model and had no problems in 10 years .. so food for thought and for sure if I buy another RX its deffo going to have Air suspension and a heated steering wheel .. Lordy do I miss my LS !! -
I too have lost thousands on cars .. and like Martin I always say to myself i'll keep this one and tell my wife the same thing .. but then a month or so later out of the blue she will say , Your on Autotrader again !! and sure enough something new turns up on the drive but , for what its worth my recently departed LS600 was I feel , the best all round car I have ever owned , such a superb piece of engineering and lots of toys to play with , its just a pity my wife didn't feel the same way , she dosn't drive and feels much safer sitting up high so the RX remains our mode of transport

Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the Dampers on a 2011 RX450h Lovely and smooth on a Motorway but can be quite jarring on potholed surfaces around town .. was thinking more compliant replacement Coilovers or similar to improve the ride , short of trading her in for a more complicated Air suspension setup and potential associated problems Any comments would be appreciated
