In practice this time of year with a lot of night driving it is a bit of a faff. What I do is have the auto high beam switched on for fast roads and motorways where it works well, but as soon as I hit roads where I am likely to be going under 40 mph I turn back to manual as that is when you have no high beam on auto unless holding the stalk as you described. Having moved from an RCF to a GS with adaptive high beam, I definitely prefer the GS system. The RCF seemed to react too often to reflective road signs at night and slightly later to oncoming traffic, so I was regularly flashed. The only downside with the GS adaptive high beam is having to fumble for the unlit off button when driving country lanes below 40 mph so I can still access high beam. Dipped lights really don’t show any distance ahead in a dark lane.

I agree, other cars have a more sophisticated arrangement where the quantity of rain or snow on the sensors or reduced visibility due to heavy fog turned off the ACC, but in the RCF it is a simple switch relationship between the wiper speed and the ACC. My 2007 Honda Legend had a much better system. Next time it rains I’ll test it on my GS.

Took a while to work this out on my RCF. The adaptive cruise cuts out when the windscreen wipers are on the fastest speed. Slow down the wipers and the cruise control comes back on.

Yes Phil, in the US it seems since 2006 the GS with the larger v6 has been the obvious direct comparison. Sold as an Acura RL in the States the Legend sold slightly better than here. The Legend was a rare thing in the UK and Europe with only 500 or so sold in the Uk, so I virtually never saw another,(a bit like driving a Mk4 facelift GS!) so when I came across any GS it seemed to be the only comparable car despite the Legend being front wheel drive biased 4 wheel drive. My driving is 90% motorway and so the Legend in 2007 with adaptive cruise and lane keep assist was both a novelty and made for relaxing long road trips. The Honda 3.5 vtec made a wonderful noise when opened up. But once the Legend was discontinued the GS was the only way for me to go once I’d scratched the itch of owning a V8 with an RCF for a couple of years. Just a shame no suitable GS450h was available at the time I needed to change, but now very content with the 300h. Actually the 0 -60 in the Legend was 7 and a bit seconds and from a number of YouTube videos the 300h apparently does it in 8.1 or 8.3 rather than the over 9 published by Lexus so not really that different. The interiors I would say are very comparable, both totally solid and mechanically engineered to a high standard. This was my Legend.

An unusual nice little recent video posted by a car dealer local to me. Especially interesting for me as I drove a Honda Legend for 150,000 miles and was sad to see it go with 180,000 miles on the clock. Not sure I agree with everything but I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. He has also posted a standalone review of this particular GS.

Just checking that you have found the handbrake release mechanism and the long pointy thing to insert into the screwdriver once you’ve removed the little plug in the boot? Looked it up in the pdf of the manual on pages 618 and 619. As I’m a take it in under warranty for everything sort of driver I’ve no idea whether that helps in your situation!

Don’t know if you’re interested in a temporary cosmetic fix, but I owned a blue RCF until recently with 68,000 on the clock mainly from Motorway driving so plenty of rash on the front. Turtle wax do a colour magic polish with colour infused. I found the blue worked well to hide small white spots on the front and with larger spots a drop of the polish on the spot left to dry wasn’t perfect but better than rocking the speckled look. I wouldn’t use a product like that all over, I did get through loads of Maguires Ultimate Liquid wax for the rest of the car. The depth of the RCF blue is very special and was always the first thing about the car that drew comments.

Tried it today and of course you were both right. This version of Premium Nav needs you to set off before it commits to an ETA. Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe need more help as I work through the million other features.

Second week with my 2018 GS and loving it. I had Premium Nav on my RCF albeit with the smaller screen so everything should be easy, but one little thing is irritating the hell out of me. By default I want to see arrival times rather than travel times - it’s my ETA and I don’t want to have to calculate it. I’ve watched countless YouTubers and scoured the hundreds of pages on the detailed PDF for the system. Below I show what I believe to be the correct menu options, but I also show below what I actually get. So my question is, have they deleted this option, am I missing something, or is my system not right. If any of you can help that would be fantastic. Thank you!

The Legend was a dream to own and drive. That 3.5 litre vtec engine rumbled along effortlessly around town but came to life over 4000 revs with a fantastic growl. The torque vectoring four wheel drive made for totally assured fast driving through the twisties, surprising for such a big heavy car. Mine had the adaptive cruise/ LKAS which unlike most people apparently, I loved, as it made for completely effortless Motorway driving. And an unusual feature back then. Very luxurious hard wearing interior. And people shouldn’t be put off by all that tech, as mine was completely reliable until I sold it with 180000 on the clock.

Apologies for jumping on this thread but if I we’re to start a new one it would have the same heading! Similar car, but not the quick one like yours. It comes with the optional big wheels to make it look like it goes fast though. Been swatting up on how to keep cream leather clean. So if anyone has any hints I’d be grateful. So far all I know is to ban anyone from entering wearing blue jeans. I asked the salesman at Cheltenham Lexus if he had any leftover sales brochures and he gave me one for the pre facelift GS. Thanks to the people on EBay I now have the correct brochure so if anyone is interested in the original just send me a PM. Traded in my RCF so it will be a very different drive, but previously I drove one of the last Honda Legends for 150000 miles and as moving about is legal again I plan to enjoy more Motorway wafting.

And to be complete about all options available for any specific car, I make sure I have a copy of the correct period sales brochure. I have just checked on EBay and it looks like 2015 RCF sales brochures are still available for £6.99. GSF for slightly more. But I have a suspicion that sales brochures are becoming a thing of the past and moving online so may not be available for the newest vehicles.

I agree about the optimistic pricing. On the other hand last week there was a higher mileage white RCF that was on for about a week with a slight price drop during from about £25k to £24k and it’s now gone presumed sold.

I bought my RCF privately. This is not something I would normally consider for such a high value car. However, I rang the Lexus dealer local to the seller and they confirmed that the car was known to them and had recently been serviced by them and that they would sell me a 2 year warranty without inspection. That way I could buy privately but with a dealer’s warranty. And as advised above I was able to use the low tyre tread to knock some more off the asking price. Good luck, these are great cars.

This bloke clearly put in the effort to get to know the car and unlike most UK reviews seems to have worked out its unique position in the market at the time. I have seen this review before, but looking through their library of reviews on their YouTube homepage it appears that in the past few weeks they have re-uploaded their whole back catalogue with a new continuous banner obscuring the bottom of the screen which advertises their business selling content to embed in websites. I did spot an ISF on the list as well, but haven’t watched yet. I agree, definitely worth watching and right up there with the Savage Geese review
