Maybe a bit too far from you, but try Infinity Exhausts Bristol. Previous owner of an ISF I used to own had one made by them. Can make and fit same day. Their gallery shows the blue one I had.

    Hi, thanks for your response,

Its a fair distance but if its worth it ill take that as a lead! When they did yours, how did it sound? Did you get any noticeable gains in performance, and what were they like on price? Ill go and check them out!

  2. Morning Ladies & Gentleman,

I am a fairly new poster here, so go easy!

I have a lexus Is250 in matador red, and I need a new exhaust system, due to the old one blowing, this includes the rear tail pipes, the mid pipe and the catalytic converter.

I am looking for a setup which gives me a nice tone, but something which isn't so loud it disturbs the neighbours, what are your thoughts?

Id also like to hopefully add some power in the process, i have been told an invidea mid pipe with resonator will give me the result i am looking for but i just wanted a second opinion, i was also toying with the idea of just heading over to https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Lexus/IS250/2.5L/Petrol/Premium/Exhausts/Catalytic-Converters/LEX5005H/1/34?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdDks9aO8wIVjLt3Ch3xMwq7EAQYAiABEgIZWfD_BwE have anyone used these guys, and what are your thoughts? They seem reasonably priced for sure.

And getting this with rear pipes of my choosing, but i am not sure on the best route to take, any help is greatly appreciated, and again, im looking for a tasteful mod, nothing too boy racer-ish, but nonetheless a nice tone, and i NO DRONE (I cant stress that enough)

    Thanks for your time,

    - Mitch

Here's what I did. I got HKS axle back for my IS250. This is the sound >

There is 0 drone. I'm booked in for a secondary de-cat soon. I'm hoping it won't make it much louder, I just want a slightly better flowing exhaust gases and slight bump in torque. Cat on IS250's are not actually worth that much. I was quote like £70 per secondary cat. Not surprised they aren't that good considering how much we have to pay for road tax with manual cars.

This is exactly the kind of sound im looking for!

HKS exhausts are so expensive though.

    Thanks

When it comes to horse power... I doubt that even straight piping or removing exhaust all together would impact IS250 in any meaningful way.

However, some backpressure could add some low end torque, still I would be amazed that few holes in exhaust would have noticeable effect.

By the way - OD/ID is outside/inside diameter of the pipe.

    Fair enough, good to know.

Kind of a bummer because something is definitely effecting the performance, I know spark plugs are due to be done and it could do with a carbon clean perhaps? Just some ideas circulating.

Thanks for clarifying that, appreciate it.

I doubt holes in exhaust impact HP at all. You system does have resonator (that is long tube where where double exhaust meets in Y over the axle).

When you look at Tenabe, just be careful, because most of the videos are from IS350 and IS250 obviously does not sound similar at all.

    Thanks for your response.

Are you sure? Every garage seems to assure me that holes in the exhaust system does affect performance and it definitely feels less 'sharp' than when I bought it.

Yes, I made sure to look at the IS250 videos, I also watched some of the IS350 ones and oh my 🙂

  6. 44 minutes ago, Linas.P said:

It could, depending where it is done, but generally IS250 exhaust is not restrictive. Other questions is whenever the OD or ID was changed. It is possible that smaller OD SS pipe may still have same IS as mild-steel, because SS pipes tend to have thinner walls.

    OD or ID?

Thanks for all of your help on this! I'm debating on just waiting it out to see if I can get an OEM exhaust system second hand, and dealing with trying to get a slightly deeper tone later on down the line.

By resonated I mean a system with a resonator on it, I was told this would still be fairly quiet but have a nice subtle tone when accelerating.

I really like the Tenabe exhaust system but I just don't think I can afford it at the moment, but that would be my ideal exhaust system by what I've seen and heard.

It sounds terrible at the moment and really doesn't feel like it's 206bhp, so anything will be a substantial improvement.

  7. Thanks guys! So glad I finally got a response on this.

I'm quite looking forward to trying out the DVD player, and I'll investigate the rear vents, does anyone know how it would have become disconnected or where from? Is the connecter under the centre compartment which also needs to be removed to gain access to the Sat Nav unit?

Could it be a fuse, and if so which one would it be.

Oh yeah, my Bluetooth doesn't work either, I can make phonecalls and hear the other person but they can't hear me, any ideas with that one?

Could I have messed it up by putting a new Mark Levison Head Unit in it?

    Thanks again guys!

  8. Thanks for the responses guys, very informative and I really appreciate all the info.

Apparently modifying anything to do with emissions is technically illegal and supposed to be an MOT failure however most independent garages just go off the emissions read out and if it passes the emissions test they are usually satisfied, I have heard of a few lexus owners removing two of the cats and still being able to obtain an MOT.

I'm looking for a system which isn't too loud and offensive but has a nice deep tone (not the kind that would wake the neighbours up) possibly a resonated system? Please confirm if correct or incorrect.

But that does answer my question in full and I really appreciate that, and following on from this I will get a second opinion, because replacing the mid and rear section will be considerably cheaper than replacing the whole exhaust.

I have actually found a second hand exhaust system it is completely standard though but the guy only wants £120 for it, it is however quite rusty but no signs of weld or any holes whatsoever, is there any issues buying an exhaust system with rust, and could it pose problems down the line.

    Thank you again guys

  9. Sorry to revive an old thread.

The weld went well, but I also now have other holes in the exhaust and taking it to a garage they have advised I need a new back pipe mid section and cat.

I read today that catalytic converters are being targeted by thieves because the value of the metal inside these cats is more valuable than Gold currently.

What is stopping me selling my cats in order to obtain enough money for a new exhaust system? Would that work? Or is it a stupid question.

    Thanks in advance

  10. Hi,

I know this is an old thread, but I felt the need to revive it!

Fantastic mod, brilliant outcome. Do you know of any local specialists in the uk who would be willing to do this?

@Nasir Uddin how did you get on with it? Be interesting to see your car.

@ahmed24 - is the 12v board sufficient for this mod on an is250, and I second @is200 Newbie comment about modding the exterior door handle lights so they come on with the puddle lights, that would just complete this set up.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Mitch,

It all depends of the condition, mileage, service history etc. I think I will be able to find a decent one for about £5k

    Regards

    Adrian

Mine has full Lexus service history, Mark Levinson etc etc.

Body work on line isn't perfect but I'm getting it all repainted.

Due to a baby on the way I'll be selling this one to get a bigger car, welcome to come and view when the time comes!

    Hi Adrian,

Great to hear you are looking for one of these, what's your budget out of interest?

Could be helpful for other members looking to sell. 😀

  13. Hi guys,

So I hadn't initially noticed, but after having passengers in the back of my 2006 is250 today I noticed that the air con (or heating for that matter) doesn't seem to be working, I have nothing blowing out of the rear air vents, I wondered if anyone else had a similar problem that they had managed to fix?

It works fine on the front, if anything it's not ice cold like my old 3 series was and more on the warm side, but when I bought the car none of the controls were working due to a faulty mark Levinson unit, so I put this down to it needing to be regassed

Regardless, I still have air coming through the front air vents, heated and ventilated seats work fine, but nothing in the rear.

All controls are working on my my new Mark Levinson nav unit and surrounding heating controls albeit the touch screen is a pain to use, and I actually never use it for navigation because it seems so outdated and takes so long to input addresses and locations in, using a phone is a lot easier, maybe outdated firmware that needs updating? Not even sure if updating will.make a difference but the thing just feels a bit old and tired, even the interface, I also have no clue why the car was listed as a MM from stock as it has no DVD function, I'm assuming the MM stands for Multi Media, do some of the ML systems not have the DVD function?

Went a tad of subject but these are a couple of issues going down at the moment for me and thought I'd put them out there to see if someone can give me some pointers 😀

    Thanks guys,

    - Mitch

Hi Mitch. The tell tale way to know if you have ML is it'll say Mark Levinson on the lower part of the headunit. Putting a chrome type beading around the headunit sounds a good idea but maybe a silver/grey or black?

Yeah those clips on the dash vents are tricky. At least 2 of mine are knackered.

Sounds like you probably have a few knackered speakers that'll need replacing. However be aware of the ohmage of the speakers. Not always 4ohm.

Yes I've seen on utube replacing the touch screen screen. Not expensive to do either.

I've stated yes you can swap the two parts over separately. Look on the tube about updating none nav radios to android type.

As for sending unit for repair. All I can think of is a hifi specialist and go from there.

Yes, my new and old unit definitely have Mark Levinson written on the lower part of the unit. You have got me thinking about the generalised colour scheme of the interior and I think black or silver is a much better shout to be honest! Thanks for the suggestion, will definitely try this and post my results for other members!

Thing is, it's not the touch screen that has gone but more the whole screen in general (completely blank) doesn't even power up, I read that this could be a display module.

You also mentioned about some of the speaker and mentioned that it isn't always 8 ohms, surely I would need ML replacements in order to achieve the sound which is meant for this car? Or would it be fine just sticking speakers in as long as they fit and have the correct ohmage.

Thanks for all of your help so far @Mr Vlad

Ebay, may need a bit of modification, ie not quite lined up in bumper cut outs. Cheap. Rear section from Y pipe. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=lexus+is250+exhaust&_sacat=0

Or custom made in stainless by exhaust place.

    James.

    Hi @JamesIS220,

Thanks for your response, the link you sent me is actually quite good, a lot cheaper than I thought.

I think I'm going to try get this welded, and if something goes wrong again I will certainly look into one of these.

Exhaust place could also be worth a try but they'll probably charge a fair bit.

Hi Mitch. Just come across your thread. Firstly welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Wow £1200 for a great car. Cheap. I paid 4X that for my 2007 78k 1 owner ffs car.

You've mentioned the dash around the radio/nav unit looks damaged. Looks like a previous owner had an issue and had the unit out and possibly forgot one or more of the multi plugs. The ML system is superb. In my current is250 it sounds better than the ML in a 14 plate is300h I had and in the 62 plate RX450h I had (I've only had Lexus cars with ML).

Are you sure you've got ML? Does your rear shelf have 3 speaker grills and the rear doors 2 speaker grills each and front doors 3 and a centre dash speaker grill?

To test each speaker then you have to ay with the sound stage setting and have the music play from each door individually.

You could find a car hifi specialist near you to have a look.

You paid £120 for a 2nd hand radio/nav unit? Blimey you struck lucky. They're usually around £400.

You asked if you can swap your original screen for the 2nd hand one. Yes you can. You have to unscrew the bolts on the side of the unit where the bright silver bracket is and separate the 2 halves then swap. There are tutorials on the tube.

Glad you love your car. They're summat else.

    Hi @Mr Vladand other viewers,

Thanks for your input and taking the time to view and reply on this thread.

Makes me feel a lot better about the price I paid, for both the car and the stereo, thank you for making my day 😃

"You've mentioned the dash around the radio/nav unit looks damaged. Looks like a previous owner had an issue and had the unit out and possibly forgot one or more of the multi plugs" It does look like this may be the case, I also noticed when removing it that two of the flip-down clips inside the grille were stuck in the open position and not lockable, the dash around the unit does look nasty though, one idea I had was to find some chrome beading and stick around the outline of the unit, of course this come with risks in itself to the dash, but any ideas on neatening this up are also welcomed!

Mine definetly has the 3 speaker grilles in the rear parcel shelf, one main centre one with 2 at the sides, the rear doors have the two speaker grilles as well as a little tweeter grille just by the door release handle, same as the front, I haven't looked but can't remember there being a centre one in the middle front which is noticable, maybe it is there. I'll confirm this later. I have noticed though that it is registered as an MM, however mine doesn't play DVD's etc... so I'm wondering if it is really ML or not?

"To test each speaker then you have to ay with the sound stage setting and have the music play from each door individually."

Funny you should mention this, I actually did this yesterday, the sound coming from the rear passenger is muffled and quite chopy, it kinda sounds like I may have a blown speaker on that side, also, two of the main speakers from the rear also arent working, not sure if the plug for them has just came loose or there is a blow, when I bought the car it had damage to the drivers rear door panel (so there was structrual damage to the rear for sure) Might be worth me checking this out when I replace the door and take the door cards off perhaps, I'd say there are 3 speakers not working to full potenital at most, could this really make that much of a difference and could this be the reason why it does sound rather underwhelming?

I'm lucky that I know someone who works in body repair and painting, so he is going to do the new door for me as well as touch up some of the stone chips around the car and get the paintwork back to its former glory, he is going to do this for me for £200 +paint - So that always helps!

I did pay £120 for a second hand ML nav unit with radio, but as mentioned, the radio section of this doesn't work and there are cosmetic marks on this unit (Which i haven't yet tried to get out, so perhaps the price is about right?)

It really is a shame, because the unit I took out of the car the radio section was working perfect and the screen wasn't, this new one is the other way around, full working screen and air con controls but radio panel and buttons not working.

I'm wondering if it's worth sending my old unit off for repair somewhere, any ideas? The overall condition of my old unit is 10/10 whereas this new unit is more like 6/10.

I've read that the display module goes in these and even sometimes just the screen, I'm not too sure how to diagnose this but all I know is the screen OR the controls didn't work on the old one.

Thanks again for taking a look and for your positive comments, I completely agree with this car being something else, I find myself looking for excuses to drive it.

Hope everyone is keeping cool in this ridiculous weather.
