  1. I think I’ll give it a miss and rely on roadside recovery. That eBay item is overpriced and includes tools you don’t need since you have jack,wheelbrace,etc.already. ...and If the wheel in the picture is the one you get I don’t fancy trying to fit a four stud wheel on a five stud hub 😀
  2. RoadHero RH091 Space Saver Spare Wheel & Tyre Kit For Lexus RC F 15-19 | eBay Supposed to fit an RC F....do we think so?
  3. Thanks for that, sadly I have not got a “handbook” but only the far shorter RC F User Guide. I agree some oil needs removing.I don’t have an oil syphon but I do have a competent nearby garage who can do it.
  4. OK,check today in the prescribed manner. The distance between the high and low marks on the dipstick is 2 cm. The oil level sits at,by coincidence,as near as I can say to 2cm.ABOVE the high mark. The handbook, unlike on other cars,is not helpful in that it does not tell you the quantity of oil that equates to a top up from the low to high mark. An educated guess by me would be one litre, and from that I would conclude that the oil is overfilled by one litre. The next question is should I take any action...on a small engine that amount would be a lot,but perhaps not significant on a 5 litre engine with over 9 litres oil capacity?
  5. Thanks for all the replies. I’ll do another check with a warm engine as stated above. My last check was this morning with the engine stone cold. I’ve been checking and changing oil and filters for more years than I care to remember so I think I know the basics. My feeling at the moment is that Lexus Cardiff overfilled it at the service last June...not possible to prove of course. I did see a remark on the internet that this engine takes a long time to drain, and techs don’t wait then put in the official oil quantity thereby overfilling. The correct method,to me anyway,is to fully drain and then refill with the official amount less one litre, getting the level to the bottom of the stick and then gradually topping up.
  6. Hmm...a brief internet search reveals many complaints in the US of the oil being overfilled.
  7. Routine oil level check on my (new to me) RC F. It seems impossible to make out where the level actually is because oil appears not only up to the top level mark but smeared way beyond that...or is it that that the true level because it has been overfilled? Not sure what to think ???
  8. Also, that car has clocked up a fair few miles for something only a bit more than 2 years old,so it wouldn’t be my choice.
  9. Agreed it’s lower spec, although my favourite colour. The bigger screen must have been standard by that time. It looks like another economy measure was to replace some of the leather with alcantara (I.e fake suede). On the other hand do you really need the things in the bigger spec cars, mostly you don’t in my experience. For example,I like sun roofs and heated steering wheels but can happily live without them.I also had ventilated seats on the IS 250 I had years ago and recall they were rather ineffective.
  10. I can tell you something about it. I bought my RC F from this dealer and they told me that my car and the ISF were traded in by the same person to an Aston dealer for a new car. The dealer had an arrangement with the Aston franchise to offer for their trade ins,and they bought both. I would say my RC F had been very well looked after,so probably this ISF has been as well. That’s all I know !
  11. The OP’s heading is GSF v RCF. Isn’t the driving experience very similar.? If so the choice is down to whether the RCF has enough accommodation to suit his needs, and since he would be replacing a substantially sized car in the A8,this says he needs the extra accommodation of the GSF. I think he will have already worked out that neither is an out and out sports car like the 911.
  12. https://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=130611 This is the go to place for best BMW prices, great guy to deal with. Not to say that your local dealer could not match, but this guy just gives you his best and only price straight away with no messsing about.
  13. When I bought mine recently the dealer told me that on private motor trade stats available to him RC Fs values have been flat for the last 18 months. I do however think that sales have stalled with the latest lockdown, and it’s the wrong time of the year,so that means down pressure on values.
  14. Yes,set the pressures at 38psi on my gauge, the reading on the dash now shows 2.6 front and 2.7 rear cold. Why the difference when I tried to set them the same all round I don’t know, human error I suppose. If I was feeling rich I’d probably change the Potenzas since they only have a C wet rating and the fronts are getting old with a 2015 stamp on them....but they have plenty of tread left. Also, the fronts have some superficial cracks in the tread grooves, which from what I’ve read is not a safety concern but a sign of ageing and reduced grip. On balance, I do see a new pair of front tyres on the horizon.
  15. Potenzas all round.I’ve upped the pressures today and things seem better with just a quick drive round. I’ll see if the tracking check finds anything.
  16. Good point about tyre pressures,I think they are are about 33/34 cold at the moment...I’ll try some more air!
  17. I'm just getting used to my RC F and I find that when braking to a stop,if the road surface is uneven, the car tends to "tramline",i.e pulls one way or another before it comes to a halt. When braking from speed all seems normal. Is this because of how the geometry of the front suspension is set up? I also notice some Ackerman effect that is skipping of the front wheels at slow speeds on full lock, again normal? I've got the car booked in for a front alignment check which should correct the steering wheel being slighlty (very slightly) off centre,we'll see if it shows up anything else. Also,I'm perhaps thinking it might have been best to go for a 4 wheel Hunter machine check. The tyres have plenty of tread and are evenly worn, they are all Potenza re050a....perhaps not the best. Any thoughts, please?
  18. I have changed cars a lot (too much) over the last few years and here are some opinions which may or may not make a difference because at the end of the day the choice of a car, especially a sporty one is often a personal rather than a logical choice. I would say a GT86 is liveable with at 70/80 on the motorway...not the quietest obviously but better than the 981 Cayman I had. To me ( and a lot of others) the main problem with the GT86 is the engine. In reality they don’t make 200hp,usually about 180 but even worse they have a torque drop off between 2500 and 4500rpm so they only feel lively between 5000 and 7000.This can be sorted for about £1500 (new exhaust manifold which deletes one of the cats and a remap) but that’s if you are into modding cars, which I wasn’t. The Civic type R FK 8 is a brilliant car but after a year I felt ( at my advanced age I could no longer live with the looks. I think the Yaris GR is in danger of being over hyped.£30k or over and there aren’t going to be any discounts... but budget interior and probably not very relaxing as a daily driver. There is an alternative at not much more than half the price...a lightly used Fiesta ST3,not as good but real value for money IMO. Anyway, just my opinions, but you buy a sporty car with your heart and not your head 😀
  19. Given yours is a 2016 car and not 2015 I would have thought a dealer would advertise it at £33/4K,assuming the condition is good and the mileage not too high. Could be an idea just to have a chat with a dealer, but obviously with this type of car you need the right one. In your part of the world there is Parkway Specialist Cars at Mansfield, have a look at their website, their stock profile matches the RC F (I think they have an LC 500 at the moment). The owner,Mark Teale,is a decent enough guy to deal with,so worth a try.
  20. I thought the slight power reduction was because a PPF was fitted for emissions reasons....so reduced power because of a more restricted exhaust.
  21. I noticed this. When you peruse Autotrader as a regular sad habit,as I do,you tend to notice only a few cars every year that look very underpriced...I tend to think this was one of them and someone swooped in and snapped it up...good luck to them. I can’t think the dealership lost money on it,so someone got a poor trade in price. All speculation of course...
  22. I’ll go for a “no” to my question...given that an RC F is 22mm wider than an RC.
  23. I see there are oem Lexus mudflaps for the RC model Anyone know if the will fit an RC F? Perhaps the backs will fit but not the fronts or vice versa? ( Just thinking about stone chips...not the cool factor 😀)
  24. The latest on this subject is that today I collected my new ( to me ) RC F. I feel lucky in that one cropped up only 3 miles from me,as we know these cars are rather thin on the ground and at my age I didn’t really feel like driving all over the country to find one. It’s 2015 in white, black interior, with the ML sound system ( don’t they all).White would not have been my first choice, but being metallic has a nice sparkle to it,and if you were picky about colour schemes you would probably give up before you found what you wanted. More importantly the car is immaculate inside and out bar a few barely noticeable front end stone chips, and it has a fully stamped up (totally Lexus) service book with no outstanding maintenance issues as far as I can see from the paperwork. I haven’t driven it very far yet but it feels nicely tight and planted on the road. The mileage isn’t low at 42k but the maintenance record and condition are spot on and I believe the price was competitive at £29k. In fact I’m happy that I didn’t go and pay £10k more for a later, lower mileage example since I won’t be putting a lot of miles on it and I think this one represents better value for money. Perhaps the previous owner was known on here, apparently he also owned a 2010 IS F and traded in it and the RC F in against an Aston. The Chesterfield dealer bought both cars from the Aston dealership. Anyway, very happy so far !!
