  1. I reckon the government should do more in regulating and keeping insurance companies in line - since it's a mandatory requirement for motoring. Not that it should be 'free' or anything - it absolutely should not be. Motoring isn't mandatory, but as a first world free country, the right to travel freely is important and as some have mentioned, let's face it, most people on the road aren't 'car people' or enthusiasts, but simply have no better or more economical way of transporting their families or self across long, tedious routes and distances. So owning a car isn't always a nice to have luxury although it is for some of us. As for the NHS charging its staff.. that is awful, but I have to wonder how useful the unions are [ever] [in general] that despite making a lot of noise and money from membership, haven't achieved much in that very real, everyday issue that costs a lot of hard working key workers a tonne of money and frustration in simply trying to come to work everyday. But if you are publicly funded and have no obligation/motivation to make a profit, or be accountable for poor management decisions (such as outsourcing everything for sheer convenience) then what do you expect? Their biggest problem is putting healthcare people in charge - who are experts in health care and high in empathy, but not experts in balancing books, strategy or a business mentality. They shouldn't mix the two, or you get people over spending in the wrong areas out of 'empathy' with no real concept of the impact down the line and that's what we see all the time. No amount of government throwing money at the NHS will make a difference (before someone inevitably blames the tories). It's a structural problem and until they can straighten it out, I hate to say it, but it's only continuing to make a case for privatisation. And I don't say that as some stuck up rich guy, I'm definitely a beneficiary of the NHS and would probably be screwed without it. But service user or not, my need and want for 'free healthcare' is no reason for highly skilled key workers, in stressful jobs, to have to keep turning up to be treated like crap, paid too little or laid off..
  2. Does anybody here have the Pilot Sport 5's (or any other Pilot Sport) Michelin tyre on your CT200h? How have you found it? I'll need new tyres soon and I was debating between keeping it on the Yokohama's (as new) or move across to Michelins which I've always had good experiences with in the past and long lasting lifespan. This cars a little sporty, low profile tyres (could benefit from the big rim protectors on the PS5's)
  3. Glad to hear it! I came from a 2018 Toyota Avensis which in my head, was always a comfortable drive if nothing else. Drove to Dublin and back (300 miles) in one day last year in the Avensis, I was wrecked when I got home. Did the same in the CT last month, no trouble at all, no stiff back, no over-tiredness, made a huge different. Quite fun messing with the sport mode etc on the fast roads too. Where stopping / slowing was a burden in the Avensis with manual gears and having to slowly build speed back up, in the CT it's effortless and at least, relatively, a lot faster feeling. Definitely a nice place to be.
  4. I don't find the CT that harsh, mines a 2017 as well. I hear it was worse in the original release modes up to the change in 2014. It's relatively harsher than the Avensis I had (but it's smaller and 'sportier'). It's nowhere near as hard as a 2017 DS3 Prestige I owned also with 17" low profile tyres from factory. That thing on a rough surface road would shake your fillings out! I reckon it's the perfect compromise from being too rolly and soft like the Avensis was, versus being overly sporty with zero comfort like the DS3 was. Have it checked out, in case there is something wore out in yours or broken that might be making it excessively harsh? That's a possibility
  5. Do these things work? Easy to fit? Maintains all the Lexus stuff (control knob and whatnot?). Anybody on here bought one yet?
  6. When I looked at my CT in January (been sitting over a year at the dealer - NON LEXUS) it had mould over the seats / seatbelts - minor. I had my doubts as well, but they cleaned it up and it hasn't come back since. Seems to be normal when cars are sitting for a few months.
  7. Sounds like LV is a bit of a joke of an insurance company. Frankly, anything should be insurable with the right cost. Government should review and regulate insurance much better for as long as it remains a mandatory part of motoring.
  8. Welcome to the club! Looks like a stunning example of a CT. Hope you enjoy it
  9. It could be tyre, alignment, steering or wheels. How long have you had it? I've just gotten my CT200h in January and compared to my Avensis, at 70mph on open motorways I feel it being a bit harder to keep going straight in the crosswinds compared to the bigger, wider and longer Avensis. Although, wind not a factor, the CT suspension and refinement is superior to the Avensis in terms of stability and comfort. Do you know anybody else with one locally to drive it and compare?
  10. True, I'll give the straps a miss then. I suppose the actual bits that move on those are hidden inside the door anyway for the most part. At least they are still telling them to still use some on the hinges, had they advised against that, my trust would be gone! Is using a tub and a small blob on the hinge ends the best approach? I found a spray to be very messy.
  11. Why so? Did they give any context? I suppose I could give the strap a miss then but do the hinges.. I want to take Lexus recommendation. But at the same time, they don't recommend the transmission fluid changed, and having just done mine at 70k, it certainly was burnt / had soaked in some nastiness since new. That makes me want to perhaps exceed some of their suggestions.
  12. That looks stunning in red. Welcome back! - I'm about one month in the door myself with a CT. Never did like the German cars much tbh. Had two months with a new 2021 CLA 220d Premium... nice car, but very cheap from the waist down, rough plastic, creaky parts and poor quality leather (with a rip in it already). Nice cars, though I was glad I didn't own it or have to maintain it in the long term. What made you come back from BMW? Trying to convince my cousin who has a quite nice 2018 420d to buy a Lexus RC instead which is very reminiscent of that one you showed from the side, except a 3 door. Maybe your reasoning can help me convince him to go for the Lexus as he's leaning towards a C-Class coupe.
  13. Once a year, usually start of Spring, I've made it a habit to neatly wipe down the rubber components (trim, window buffers, door seals) with some silicone spray - as well as the side rails where the glass slides up and down. To stop them sticking in cold weather and to protect them a little from heat / cold and delay the cracking from age that will eventually happen. Similarly, with the door hinges, boot hinges and bonnet hinge / mechanism, check straps, give them a dollop of white grease to keep them sliding smoothly and inhibit any corrosion where possible. I think the silicone spray onto a cloth is fine. For white grease, do any of you have recommendations? On my last car (an Avensis) in 2022 I foolishly bought a spray which was very thick (nearly like foaming how thick it came out - and messy). It made a mess to the eyes and also, once the heat from the bonnet etc got at it, turned into a black mess that I never got off. Would a tub have been better? Hopefully I've reminded some of you to do this little job. In return... anybody got any ways I can avoid making a mess of my newly acquired CT200h?
  14. I don't know about Devon, but the entire west side of Northern Ireland doesn't have a workshop technician or mechanic worth jack ****. I'd love a CarCareNut level professional with passion in what they do. Or even just a YouTube channel where I could watch the work being done! haha For now, I'll do all I can myself, and keep the TipEx pen marking all the filters / nuts on parts that I need Lexus to do for me.
  15. I tried the remote starting on my 2017 CT200h which didn’t work but I didn’t have high hopes. tried it on a 2020 Corolla GR Sport in the family, also didn’t work. Maybe it’s fitted in the US / Canada region as standard even if not specified as an option as they have a large number of states and areas where this would be necessary to have the car practically useful to owners? I wish I had it. Nice toasty interior by the time I get out to it these mornings! CarCareNut is a legend. Just serviced all the niche items on my CT with his video guidance for £370 all in.
  16. Got my CT booked in tomorrow for the Hybrid Battery health check. Just curious.. what exactly do they do? is there a filter they replace? how long does it take? new to Lexus and all this Hybrid jazz
  17. It’s amazing. It drives so smooth and handles sharp. It’s phenomenal to have an automatic car for the first time. It’s better on fuel than the Avensis. I did a lot of servicing stuff to it, it definitely seems a bit more crusty with rust underneath than the Avensis. But nothing structurally concerning. I think it just won’t last more than 15 years now haha it’s a little rougher paintwork wise too but not terrible. I love the car. I hope there’s a successor by the time mine is done because I never want to drive a non Hybrid Toyota or Lexus ever again for as long as I can!
  18. The manual didn’t seem to have any guidance for this and the few threads online I found didn’t come to any useful conclusion. The system allows voice commands ONLY to say who you’d like to call in your phone book. That’s it - no nav or climate commands. But hey, it’s better than nothing Set up your phone and connect it via Bluetooth. it will need your phone book synced across which will happen automatically once connected. Go into the phone part of the system. Push ‘left’ on the rotary dial to get to the telephone menu list. Scroll down to the voice command part select a contact push ‘right’ on the rotary dial to get the right menu up says ‘add / edit / remove’ Click add. it gives you up to 5 seconds to record saying the name of the contact there is no voice confirmation. Once you’ve done that, it’s done. Voice tag set up for that contact. there are 50 Maximum on this system that’s what I figured out yesterday and set a few up. I thought I’d post it here for other owners to find in the future.
  19. The standard fixed price for the Major Service is £505 and the lesser one £285 so they're charging you the same as what I was quoted in the last two wees. Seems pretty standard. Of course, being Lexus it won't be the cheapest car to service but they don't seem to be particularly over charging you personally over anybody else which is a positive
  20. Placed a big order last week with Lexus Direct Parts, all being well, it'll come tomorrow and I'll be doing the following jobs: Oil & Filter change Coolant replacement Transmission fluid replacement Engine air filter replacement Pollen / cabin filter replacement Brake fluid replacement Air conditioning system clean Fuel system clean Paint stone chip touch up Spark plugs replaced Quite a 'complete service' incoming for the car. I can't be sure after that initial three years what was done.. to what standard and what parts were used. I doubt it was genuine fluids. It's unclear if they 'topped up' brake fluid or properly replaced it etc... as that said dealer I bought the car from did lie to me on my last car about changing brake fluid I thought why take the chance.. for a few £. They allegedly also changed the spark plugs but did they? and did they use genuine parts.. probably not. Why chance it? This will set it right. Then I plan to most likely take it to Lexus for the Relax warranty for the last 2/3 eligible years. I am tempted to video each of these jobs and put it up on YouTube as a how-to or just a follow along video.
  21. They can, but we can’t produce enough of them fast enough without getting into too much national debt!
  22. I just ordered a 2023-2024 update from that site… so it’ll be 2021 maps?! 😞
  23. I just ordered a £60 one too from the same site for my non premium nav on a 2017 CT. So far got the files and USB sorted. Waiting for them to email my activation code (hopefully tomorrow). quite a major road in NI that just doesn’t exist on older maps that I’m keen to get to make my nav useful. Had it on my 2018 Toyota (2022 map) with the road but when it was closed (only opened a year ago) so it used to have the wrong limit and constantly direct you off it… looking forward to 2023 Maps on the CT 😊
  24. The Palestinians have made the mistake that the Irish nationalists made. Using terrorism to plead sympathy from the wider world. regardless of how good and valid (or not) your reasoning or ‘historical context’… you start blowing up innocent men, women and children and you spit in the faces of a GOVERNMENT with an actual, arranged, funded MILITARY… allied with the most powerful and fierce nations on the planet… what do you think is going to happen? My sincerest empathy goes out to the poor people trying to forge their lives amidst this. As most of us did in NI not so long ago. China and Russia… empathy for the people. With a proud and noble history and rich culture and traditions. All thrown to the wayside for the egos and selfishness of two angry little men. They will destroy themselves in their current trajectories. The western world is slowly removing them from its long term sustainability (manufacturing… energy..). Without our money and investment it will fall back to how it was 30 years ago as fast as it grew. Especially crippling under its uncontrollable population which depends on food imports amongst other things from the nations it thinks it can bully. I don’t see what a bunch of angry, demanding ‘White western liberals’ waving flags, holding up traffic junctions in our towns and cities are going to do. Some of the things I’m hearing being openly said and agreed upon about Jewish People… just five years ago would have (rightfully) alienated and lost you your job for hatred and intolerance of the tallest order. Now it’s somehow okay? People have short memories. Note.. above I am talking about governments (ideologies) and terrorist groups - they might pretend to represent and entire people (religion or nation) but they don’t. Let’s face it. They bust into your (or my) kitchen with balaclavas and guns… and we’d agree with them too. They are nothing but nasty, vile animals. And if there is a God (whichever one) or some kind of earthly justice system out there, they will pay dearly for the terror they’ve caused. Whatever your cause… start killing the innocent. Hiding in hospitals. And you’ve lost me.
  25. Yes, as above, keep it in Ready. The system will manage the charging - even accounting for cold winter weather etc. you don’t need to worry if you do that
