Mysterious Opening Windows

Recommended Posts

In August last year my 2005 RX300 was parked up outside & when I looked out about an hour after I'd left it I noticed that all 4 windows were open despite me being sure that I left them closed. As you can imagine this gave me a little cause for concern so I took the car straight into my local dealer for them to have a look. The dealer could find no problems & I left thinking (as no doubt they did) that maybe I'd opened them in some way as I was locking the car.

Worryingly it's happened again tonight as when the car was parked outside my mother's house & I'm 100% sure that it's nothing that I did (& the driver's 'lock' for the other windows was still activated when I got in). Given that it's -2 outside & the dealer won't open again until tomorrow morning, I've closed the windows (the dealer wanted them left if it happened again) & will take it in tomorrow.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before or have any idea as to how / why it may occur (the dealer had never heard of it last year)? As you can imagine I'm now extremely nervous about leaving it anywhere other than in my garage at home & I need to go into London on business on Thursday in it!

Thanks

Steve

Well I learned something new about the car today!

All Lexi have an 'open all windows' function where if you press the unlock button on the keyfob twice & keep it held in, the windows all open remotely. Similarly pressing lock twice & keeping the button in closes them. 3 cars over 5 years & I've only just found it out!

It does beg the question why my dealer didn't tell me about this in August last year.

Interesting one this Steve.

I've just been out to my late 2002 RX300 and tried it with both keys... No chance, nothing happens to the windows. The only control to the windows on my model is that all 4 windows ( and sun roof) open when the key is used as a key in the door lock and turned anti clockwise. When locking the car with the key in the lock turned clockwise , windows and roof close... What niggled me is that the dealer did not tell me this when I bought it.... What do other members think ?
