Hi

I'm a newbie so apologies if this is posted incorrectly

I have recently purchased a 2007 is220d 95k on clock and I'm a little worried in regards to the coolant level, the expansion tank is showing below minimum when cold and after a short run, I went to top up but when I opened the cap it made a gurgling noise and the coolant bubbled back up to normal levels.

Is this normal or am I right to be concerned re head gasket ?

I've found a few threads regarding coolant but not the same problem

Thanks any help appreciated 😊

The coolant bottle should have 2 markings on it cold and hot and the levels should be at those marks respectively.

You should never open the cap when the engine is warm as the system pressurizes and you could be scalded.

With the engine completely cold top up the coolant to the cold line and replace the cap then check the coolant is at the hot line with the engine fully warmed up i.e. the temperature gauge at the normal midway position.

Nearly forgot welcome to the LOC.

Thanks Steve will try that, I think I'm paranoid, I've just got rid of a BMW with head gasket problem that's left me emotionally scarred 😂

Thanks again
