Replacement Headlight Bulbs

My n/side side light bulb needs replacing as it's blown so I figure I might as well bite the bullet and look at upgrading all the front bulbs B)

I believe the standard low beam/high beam are 55W halogen jobs and that going for higher wattages can lead to heat/power problems. Has anyone here upgraded their lights or got any recommendations? I've heard Sylvania SilverStar are supposed to be good, but while their SC300/400 low beam bulbs are 60W, their high beam bulbs are 70W. Is 70W going to cause problems?

you may have to file the plastic bits so they fit.. toyota cunningly created a blb fitment only for Toyota so you wont buy a bulb from the big H

however these can be carefully filed down and should fit.

BTW.. new bulbs from toyota cost £22 each!.. joke eh!

Best bulbs on the market are Philips Vision Plus. But they are not available in 9006 :crybaby:

The next choice should be Sylvania SilverStar. I ordered a pair at suvlights.com:

LINK (Sylvania SilverStar Twin Pack with $5/pair rebate)

Stay away from Xenon-Fake-Bulbs (eg EuroLite XenonFusion or XD5). They are not brighter than a candle in the wind. They look good in summer.

fROM AUTOESPRESS PRODUCT TEST BEST BUYS

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/

The best models in this test are plus 50 per cent bulbs. And, as their prices have dropped since they were first launched, they have become an even better prospect. In this class, Osram gets the nod over Philips.

OSRAM SILVERSTAR

Rating: ******

Price: £16.37 (mail order)

Type: Plus 50 per cent

Beam: 96.9

The flagship bulb in Osram's range, the Silverstar's 75m figure was only a fraction better than that of arch-rival Philips (right), but it performed significantly better at 50m. Add a price advantage, and the Osram's plus 50 per cent competitor is our Best Buy.

For the soarer dip beam there is only one choice, PIAA Platinum 9005J - NO CONTEST !

They are brighter/whiter, fit without modification and are "capped" retaining the correct beam pattern unlike other 9005 bulbs which are uncapped and destroy the beam pattern, only problem is the cost :o

In the main beam any uprated output bulb would suffice (NOT UPRATED, HIGHER WATTAGE bulbs, they will do damage to the wiring), again the PIAA are the best.
