Now I've discovered that my snow/power switch is the only one that does not light up, and it should, can a guru advise me:

How do I get the "wooden" console around the gearstick off, assuming I need to and

What kind of bulb do I need to put in the switch when I get at it?

Or is there another way of getting at the switch, perhaps via the armrest?

First open the ashtray and pull out. Then the wooden console part will pull off. If you pull from the switch end it should just come out. It's held in place by little metal clips. It won't come up too far because of the wiring. However you should be able to disconnect all the connectors and lift completly off.

I'm not sure if the switch has a built in light or a replaceable bulb. If it is replaceable it will probably have a little green sleeve to give it it's colour - the new bulb won't have this so don't just throw the old bulb away.
