fuel consumption problem

I can't offer any more solutions for you - but I think the choke adjustment on start up sounds the most likely target to attack.

As I understand it your GS won't sound rough if it is drinking fuel on start up as it is nice and big - a smaller engine would probably flood and possible stop. My 94 GS (116,000 miles) never smells of petrol. Worst smell I ever get is sucking crappy exhaust fumes in from the car in front (until I find a passing place - Hee-hee!!) I have noticed that the "ticking" noises when I turn off (presumably the exhuast cooling down?) seem to last for ages - anyone noticed the same?

Had a merc once that did the same thing(petrol smell), took it back to merc garage about 10 times before they found the fault. It turned out to be a very small breather pipe that was split, which was near to the aircon....probably completley different but just thought i1d let you know!

Thanks, Vic. The situation could be more complicated than I first thought then.

I think the trick with cars nowadays is to find a competent dealer. But they seem to be pretty rare. With the Lexus labour charge, I would expect the mechanic to have at least a B.Sc., preferable a doctorate.

Hi everyone,

Just recently got '93 GS300 (95k KM)

noticed that fuel consumption is a bit higher than previous car ('95 Volvo 960 6Cyl 180hp) i get about ~300km per full tank... that's in the city and with good acceleration ;)

also there is some steam coming out from the pipes no matter if it's cold or warm it's almost the same... maybe it's the weather now... (~20-25C some humidity)

but no petrol smell for sure...

id say the steam is just vapor, and not to concern yourself with it..........well not at the moment, just keep an eye on it......if its blue or white smoke then that can be quite serious

so u live in BC,my parents live in Kamloops,:tumble:

Yeah "Beautifull British Columbia" that's what it says on the plates

By the way about brake pads... do they really have to be Lexus brand (or toyota)?

i got the car with Honda pads on it and it's kinda squicky... but smooth...

was thinking about changing them...

as to the vapor... it's mostly colorless... sometimes it may be a little bit white... but no smell of burning oil or coolant...
