USB intermittently stops working

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 2014 is300h and the USB keeps shutting down intermittently. I'm now sure if it needs a software update or what's wrong. Any help would be great. The audio system turns off completely and then only the radio etc will work, until I unplug the USB and plug it back in. Thanks

I have a 2020 IS300h and I am experiencing the same issue.  There are two usb sticks with mp3 files in the usb slot and once in a while one of the sticks isn't recognized.  I have to pull out the device and put it back in its slot, and then the stick is always recognized correctly.  If it works again, the mp3 music will pick up where it left off the last time the music from that stick was played, so that's a good thing.

This doesn't happen very often however, most of the time both stick are connecting correctly. Because it's relatively rare, it doesn't bother me.

Have you tried another usb stick to rule out the usb stick being faulty?

If you rebook the infotainment (hold in the power/volume known for about 5s) does it come back to life, or you have to unplug and replug the stick?

I didn't know about rebooting via the power/ volume button, but have been removing and reinstalling the USB and it comes back on. I have tried a different USB and have also reformatted the USB and still no change but it is intermittent. Will try the powet/ volume button later when I get home from work. Thanks for the reply

I have had the same issue, my USB ports were working fine, was using one to connect my Iphone and the other had MP3 files on a USB stick.

Then one day, both USB ports stopped working and showed grey on the display, tried everything, and even went to Lexus for a check-up at a cost of £125.

Lexus workshop said it was a faulty USB port and quoted £560 to replace the USB ports.

Bought one a genuine spare from eBay for a much less price, and replaced it.

Are you using the USB port to connect a phone or connecting a MP3 usb stick?
