18 down to 17/16 wheels

Recommended Posts

I haven't personally, all you will be doing is sacrificing handling for comfort, having said that I would go for the 17's instead of 16's as a compromise

Have you explored changing the side wall size?

For example 225/40/18 - Go with 225/45/18 or 225/50/18

Providing the tyre allows clearance between the Arch you shouldnt have a problem, the result will improve the comfort as their is more rubber/cushion to asorb the bumps.

Caution: Not sure how it will impact your speedometer though.

Just changing the tyre section will have minimal effect on ride.

Changing wheel diameter with a corresponding increase in tyre section to maintain the rolling circumference is the better way to go.

Don't forget to consult with your insurers first, shouldn't be a problem as long as the model was optioned with the smaller wheel size originally.
