SC430 combination meter

My 2004 Lexus SC430 has a problem - no instrument cluster back light, fuel gauge and temp gauge don’t work and the VSC & VSC off light stay on. Everything else works.  All fuses are working.  Lexus and others can’t pinpoint the fault using diagnostics but suspect it’s the combination meter or control unit. They can’t source them as they have been discontinued but  think that they can be repaired. Does anyone know of someone who can help diagnose, replace or repair.  Thanks Mike

Most of the problem may be a simple electrical component failure affecting the gauge cluster but I think I would try one of the national parts search services or Lexus Parts Direct for a reasonably priced used cluster to replace it with. It's not a common problem in my experience.

I agree with Neil, I find the responses from Lexus Parts Direct to be prompt and knowledgeable.

Up here where I am in the Pennines is too far north for you but we have some great members in your neck of the woods, so hang fire and I'm sure Bob will have something to say!

Hi Michael

I’m Hampshire too and have only recently inherited my SC430. I got it serviced last month at Lexus Hedge End (excellent service but pricey, as you would expect).  However, there is an independent Lexus specialist near me whom I haven’t visited yet, but gets 5 stars online and so I will be checking them out. For diagnostics I would go along to see if they can help.

Thank you.  I am taking the car to Cartronics in Byfleet who say they use ‘99% human intervention & 1% computer; no computer would tell you the issue.

If the car has a fault (and its electrical) we will find out the issue for you’.
