Lexus RX300 check engine light, vsc

Recommended Posts

Hi. I bought a 05 RX300 two weeks ago. Was driving smooth until yesterday driving home from work. While overtaking a car , the engine light with the vsc light came on. I also noticed car is sluggish when accelerating after that. I'm fortunately off work, so today i cleaned maf sensor and throttle body. Disconnected the Battery, reconnected and took the car for a drive. Old problem still there with a new problem. Now the car also idles very high @ around 1500-1700 rpm. Any help would be dearly appreciated. Cheers

Let the car idle for 10 mins and/or drive it and at junctions put into neutral and let idle for a few seconds each time (traffic permitting), the idle speed should gradually come down to normal as it learns the new idle setting.

For the initial problem, we will need the fault code read to help narrow down the problem.

Tnx for the reply collinbarber, will let it idle for a few mins. I connected my very basic scanner and it gives me a p0330 code. Google says knock sensor...

Yes, that is a fault on the second knock sensor (bank 2). This is a somewhat common error on these engines - probably corroded wiring rather than the knock sensor itself. See here for an example:

Tnx for your reply. I'll let someone have a look at it. I live in Ireland, not easy to find a good indie over here. Before the engine light issue, I went to 2 mechanics with years of experience for a quote to change the spark plugs. Both of them said they NEVER worked on that engine before! Needless to say I walked away...

Update... I tried the (in)famous knock sensor hack and it worked! Will buy me time to save up some money to replace both sensors and the harness.
