Hi everybody, had a bump this morning and it has chipped the headlight glass and other slight damage. I have been searching for a replacement O/S front headlight. I guess my car is phase 3 but very confusing because I have found there are just lenses for sale on eBay . genuine new one's are very expensive so searched for used and got a quote one for £540. So, my question is, is it possible just the lenses can be replaced or should i go for the used one. Any advice welcome.

Is it really glass ?  Or the usual plastic that, by law, modern cars use for headlamps ……… whichever, can’t it be “ made good “ with some sort of filler product ……. and save you some £535 🤔

Don't know what other damage is involved but your likely costs covering it all might become rather challenging !
Good luck

Thanks Malc1, Yes it could become challenging. It appears the bumper has been dislodged and needs to be realigned, not too serious and yes it appears to be glass, just a small chip at the top and one corner but the light seems to have been pushed very slightly back so needs to be put back in position so the lighting is good for the MOT in August Could just be the bumper panel is out of line. If I can find a friendly car repairer I could persuade him/her to super glue any loose glass and then if there are any gaps they could be fixed with clear silicone to keep water out. It sounds horrendous but it is not too bad, just the fact it's a Lexus and parts are expensive. Going to see a chap next week who runs and old school garage so finger crossed. Thanks again for responding

Old School garage people are often pragmatic and realistic and sort out all sorts of issues at hopefully realistic prices

Good luck

Hi malc1. Yes it seems the days of fixing things without going full metal jacket are almost gone. I found a repair centre and had a long chat with this chap. He checked the damage and said if I used them he would try and get a used headlight but the bumper panel was cracked at a stress point and would need to be replaced. Yes were right the lens is plastic and only minor chips in 2 places, he even kindly sealed the gaps with silicone as a temporary repair so no water could get in. Its a weekend so I expect to get the estimate early next week, then i will decide whether to pay myself or go through the insurance. You know what insurance companies are like, they increase your premium even if you don't claim but inform them. I will keep you updated but expect a horrendous bill. Have a nice weekend

Hang on a jiff ... .  the pastic headlamp cover with a little filler you'll likely find is perfectly OK going forwards and won't affect your MOT needs  . this is the common touch for used car dealers to make everything fine without being silly with their money !  .  the issue being to repel water and that repair will last another 10 years maybe !

The bumper issue  ......  take the car to an independent MOT place and ask them for their view .........  both on the plastic headlamp lens repair as now is AND if the bumper is ok for the next MOT  .  if it is then maybe just a little filler and a can of spray paint but if it's not, then maybe a 2nd hand one from a breaker somewhere .  eBay maybe whatever !

Professional Painting parts is mega expensive these days !

It might be that getting a brand new bumper could be very difficult with parts availability still very challenging .. Suez Canal issues holding stuff up hugely ....

No point throwing your money down the pan eh !

A little due diligence might save you mega £££££

Good luck

Malc
