Gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just recently got my is200 sport as a used purchase 52 plate with around 25k on the clock and as im not familiar with the car I was just wondering about the gearbox. When ever i change gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd there is like a mechanical sort of sound that comes from the gearbox, i think it sounds quite 'sporty clunky' but im unsure if this is normal.

Also ive noticed a couple of times i put my foot right down on the clutch and quite rarely that it wont go into 1st gear and i have to let go of the clutch and then try again and it works. told the dealer about this at the last service and they said they could not find anything wrong with it.

Any suggestions on these two points, cheers in advance?

Yeah cheers for that, trawled through the previous posts on the subjects a lot of ****** of people!

Seems the norm, I'lly try leaving it in neutral a bit longer before i put it in 1st.

I actually like the click sound, its just normally sounds = mechanical problem.

cheers

They are known to be a noisy/clunky gearbox. Many consider the clunkiness to be partly due to the lack of torque going through the gearbox/driveline. My advice:

- Make sure your gearbox oil is changed at EVERY service

- Fit a short shifter (eg. TRD or B+M) for smoother changes (doesn't 'fix' anything, but makes it feel 10 times better)

- a lighter flywheel will make a big improvement

- an aftermarket clutch will make a big improvement

- from pretty much everyone who run turbo's/superchargers: more power = no more clunkiness (expensive fix, but worth it!)
