Attention Mechanic Type Peeps

To those of you who are engine experts i need a little help please, and maybe this might make a good thread that could clear up confusion for us plebs:

If somebody said to you "THROTTLE BODY", what would that mean to you, what does it do and where in blazes would you find the damn thing?

Please bear in mind you will have to talk to me like a child.............. :D

where the gosh flippity is a engine bay diagram that lists everything other than the usual dipstick point?--and yes i saw the haynes manual posts, and no i`m not paying 200 quid........ :o

Throttle body is the part were the air travels into the engine. It is the part with the butterfly flap that opens and closes when you press the accelerator. This in simple terms determines the speed in which your engine rotates and as a result the speed in which you travel. The throttle body is underneath the air filter element, under the large plastic cover.

But why do you need to know what a throttle body is, if you don't mind me askin????

Has somebody came up with a modified one for the IS????

Just to clarify further, the "large plastic cover" is the one with the "L" and stripes on it which the big sweeping sucky bit from the radiator connects to: p254 owners manual (the wife has got the car at the mo so i have to go by these limited pics!)
