I have a 98 ls. Tracked it down to the wire from the harness to the cig lighter. It was intermittent. Was very careful, found 18 AWG wire and carefully replaced both wires. Lasted about 3 or 4 openings then it stopped working again. Broken wires again

Looking carefully how it worked. The wires twist when you open and close the lighter door. Found in a wire manufacturer's catalogue something they called high twist wire. Have not bought it yet but hope that is the solution. Another thought it to use small braid wire. Whole bunch of small wires woven in a cylinder shape. This is sure to be flexible.

Sorry I really do not have a good solution yet!!! Will work on it

Ron

You could go the way I did...

I needed more 12v sockets for gps, pda/phone and blue tooth headset charging, so I took up the base out of the tray in the arm rest took the tray out, under there is the wires to the rear facing cigy socket and I bought a 1 male to 3 female adaptor for about 3 quid from flea bay, cut off the male striped back and soldered it to the wires to the rear cigy socket (drilled a 5mm hole in the tray and fed the wires through first).

Now I have 3 sockets to charge stuff and all of it can be out of view in the arm rest so no cheeky monkey ties to break in just to steal a blue tooth headset ect.
