Is250 Manual - Gearbox Issue

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else knew of any issues with the new IS250 Manual gearbox. I have had the car for 6 months and in that time it has been back to the garage 3 times. Once for a new clutch and the other two in relation to the grinding noises.

Basically after using the car for say a 20 minute journey and its warm, the gearbox starts making grinding noises in first and second gear, occasionaly pops out of first gear and is hard to engage into second. Lexus have simply said its no worse than any other is250 manual and thats about as good as it gets. Its at the stage now where Im seriously thinking of changing the car and fed up with the attitude of Lexus. They even said 'most' people go for the automatic as the manual gearboxes on the Lexus cars are notoriously bad. (no good for me though as i chose the Sport version that doesn't come in Auto).

Any info would be appreciated, as all the review ive seen (Autocar) have all said avoid the 'notchy manual gearbox.

cheers

That sounds bad enough to consider returning the car under warranty as "unfit for purpose". Have you talked to anybody at Trading Standards?

Hi

I have the last edition IS200 sport with all the extras and the gearbox in that is rubbish. Im also currently in dispute with both the dealer and Lexus GB who both are not overlly helpful.

The best thing about the whole situation is they know all about these issues but fail to tell you, the customer until after you buy the car. For a car of that value and to be honest you could have bought an Audi, BMW, Saab, Merc to be told its the way they are is far from, acceptable.

All I was told is its the way you drive and that its no worse than any other makes gearbox, I think not as ive owned most of the above and had no problems at all with the gearboxes, grinding, knocking, jumping in and out of gear etc.

Let me know how you get on.

So a brand-new car jumps out of gear sometimes? And 'that's as good as it gets'? After 3 dealer visits for transmission problems?

F*ck that - scream blue murder at them, and get trading standards in. Unfit for purpose - what's the point of a 200bhp Sports model if you can't boot it away from the lights sometimes without it popping out of gear?
