Hello Everyone, I'm A Potential Newbie

Hello, just like to say from first looks this looks like a really good site. That's it, creeping over!

I don't know if I want to be a Soarer owner or not - it's the only one that takes my fancy, the V8 version that is. I know I could spend a few weeks looking through old threads for info but life's too short. There seems to be a lot of technical knowledge out there so I would like to pick your brains if I may.

I'm after a car to drive as my daily car. I don't fix, wash or polish, just drive. I'm not too fussed about the luxury items (sat nav, tv, ICE etc) but I do want a car that will handle and go faster than a very fast thing.

Can someone point me in the right area to find out about:

V8 versions / specs - Jap vs UK

Typical mods that are often done

what to look for when buying

Will the car spend most of its life on the road or in a garage?

Any issues with insurance (East Sussex)

I must admit, I've got a couple of other cars I'm considering so any helpful info / advice will be appreciated. the others I'm looking at are Supra twin turbo and Jag XKR. My current car (which sadly has to go early next spring) is a Cobra replica - just don't have the option of leaving it at work without some tw@t pawing all over it. I'm sure the Soarer will appear more under-stated and less of a target.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and (hopefully) thanks for the feedback.

Ken

Well.....it won't spend much time in the garage, either at home, OR being fixed. Legendary engine from LS400.AND good mpg. 0-60 in 7 secs.Hope you haven't got children though....no space!

Get a low-ish mileage one with FSH and you'll be sending me a 'finders fee' for suggesting it later! They ARE a bit conservative, but....QUALITY? (And ZIPP!!) Outstanding. Get links to specialists, (there's one your way I seem to recall. Someone will pick up on here and tell you who. Plus there's another Gloucester way)....Good luck.

Hi and Welcome to LOC :)

It would be wise to take some time a have a look through the sections on here or have a look on TIF as they know all there is to know about the Soarer model.

If you dont do your homework then you might end up with repair bills for more than you paid for the car ;)

Chips.

V8 versions / specs - Jap vs UK

They are all Japanese spec

Three V8 versions

UZZ30 (Soarer GT) - coil suspension, usually cloth, no EMV (television screen)

UZZ31 (GT Limited)- air suspension, leather, usually (but not always) EMV, most common variant

UZZ32 - active hydraulic supension, 873 made, spec as the UZZ31 only two places in the country (some would say one) where they know the suspension system

Specialists in Cambridgeshire, London, and Surrey.

Parts are no problem. Normal servicing? it's just a car....

Typical mods

The usual wheels etc

TV / DVD / SatNav conversion

Air suspension height controller

Not much performance wise -- headers (from Australia), supercharger (Australia, or Yahoo Japan Auctions if you're lucky)

Decat

Exhaust

BFI (Big F****** Intake) mod to the standard airbox

What to look for when buying

"Blinky dash"

Suspension bushes

Leaky power steering pump (kills the alternator)

Cambelt replacement

Splits in the door trims (they all do that, sir)

Shockers (air suspension - expensive, active suspension - possible nightmare)

EMV problems

Will the car spend most of its life on the road or in a garage?

Many used as daily drivers

Any issues with insurance (East Sussex)

Shouldn't be (depending on age)

The Soarer is a very different car from the Supra, a lot less expensive to buy than the XKR, and a lot slower than both of them.

There will be plenty of stuff that I've forgotten, but if it's not in the links below, then it's nowhere.

Ask on TIF and LSOC, there should be someone local who'll show you his car.

TIF have a mini-meet near Newbury on Saturday 25th November
